One project a day- 2nd thread!

Welcome to everyone, old hats, lurkers and newbies.

This is a thread where we try and achieve something, no matter how small, a day.

This was the preamble to the previous thread ;

''......many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :) ''

everyone welcome!

Bathroom is much improved. Also tidied a bit of random crap away in the living room and kitchen but have crashed now, unless I feel better later it’ll have to do!

LlamaGiles · 22/05/2021 17:29

Bought and planted 10 bedding plants today. We're having a small garden gathering tomorrow so got some food in for that and mowed the lawn. Really pleased with how the garden is looking... house not so much.

mamakoukla · 22/05/2021 17:50

Bathroom walls patched, sanded, second patch done and sanded. Thank you for helping me do this. It had been languishing for months. Next week I will try to figure out if I can organize curb side click and collect for paint chips and paint. If not, it’s all ready to go now.

Ordered some bits and bobs from Ikea to stash away paperwork etc. Tomorrow will drive over to collect. About to head out to drop off a book in the library return box. So glad that libraries are operating as a click and collect service. Might write a thank you card and post it through the returns slot

Just home from work. DH is stripping the rest of the wallpaper and I am off to collect DS’s car in about an hour so I will have to sort out insurance and tax for it later this evening.
Then the joy of teaching him to drive 😱

Chunkymonkey123 · 22/05/2021 19:34

I actually planted my veg seedlings out, this thread made me do it! No idea why I’ve been avoiding it.
I didn’t sort out the clothes but I was out 10-5 today so I think that’s still good going.

Chunkymonkey123 · 22/05/2021 19:35

@2020nymph I love the idea of wrapping paper bags/boxes but then where do you store them?

2020nymph · 22/05/2021 21:15

I feel like I'm not making much progress on the house projects.

I have been into town so DS1 could pay in his piggy bank. Also bought him new PJs and DS2 some pants as he is restating potty training. Father's Day cards bought for my dad and fil. The boys want to do moonpig cards for DH. have restocked the card box too.

I've managed to do 3 washes today and the house is still clean and tidy but I was so tired that I sat on the sofa for five minutes and fell asleep for an hour.

They are behind the chair/sofa in the conservatory. Smile

DownUdderer · 23/05/2021 05:13

I've done some gardening jobs. It hot them done early because it was forecast rain, but no rain so far!

BlueLobelia · 23/05/2021 08:14

Any plans for today have been delayed due the fact we have a bird (sparrow) under our floorboards. Old Victorian house and it has come in somehow.... no idea how! Last night we took up a couple of the floorboards and I squeezed down with a torch but could not get it as I literally had to crawl on my stomach and the bird kept flying further away. Today we need to take up a good part of the hallway (thankfully no carpet) and see what we can do with that and a fishing net. It's going to be a heck of a job so wish us luck!!

Morning all! Yesterday I sent a card which should have gone a few days ago, but I'd forgotten about it. I've dug in the compost because I found some in the shed. Today might even be plant day!
I've grand plans to do a bit of a batch cook today. DH is working all morning and I'm hoping the cafe will be open at garden centre if we go this afternoon.

Fnib · 23/05/2021 08:46

Oh good grief @BlueLobelia! Hope you can get the poor little mite!

BlueLobelia · 23/05/2021 08:50

Thanks me too. We are about to start. DH has now decided to take up enough floor boards to squeeze in with forementioned net. Iam suggesting we turn off the power as who knows what the wiring is like under there. Hmm

Oh wow BlueLobelia - good luck! Daft sparrow!

Yesterday was mainly general tidying and cooking for having friends over.

Today will be clearing up! First dishwasher load is on. Was too tired to put a load on last night.

Otherwise today I think I’ll catch up on washing. And try to tidy the utility room.

Carriemac · 23/05/2021 09:15

I need to join I'm having post lockdown lifting paralysis - don't know where to start

BlueLobelia · 23/05/2021 10:21

The sparrow is out! It was alot less difficult than we imagined in the end. DH pulled up 3 floorboards and we were standing around looking down at the hole discussing if he could fit through the gap and between the wires when the bird hopped into view and looked up at us. So we stood aside and about 5 minutes later it was out and then went out the door to the garden. It was a young sparrow, still some fluffy bits on it and very cute.

So that was all fine and now I am looking at the rest of my To Do list!

Phew @BlueLobelia! Well done to you and DH!
I'm winning. I was up early, with no other commitments today so I've had a clear run at all the things.
Easy without rugrats of course.

Flowers to all who are trying to multi-tasking.

CharityDingle · 23/05/2021 11:18

There's a pile of clothes I need to sort through. Some to go to the bin, some to recycle. Then get stuff sorted to wash. That's today's project.

SingToTheSky · 23/05/2021 14:49

Don’t really have a project today as we’ve got my parents round. So the weekend has just been tidying up a bit more although yesterday I did clear and clean the windows and sills in the kitchen and living room.

I am absolutely shattered so I’m not sure if I’ll manage much of a project tomorrow as I’ve really pushed through the pain/fatigue a bit too much over the last few days. But my next project will have to be the sorting of DS’ room as I currently have his clothes in our room in preparation for rejigging everything.

fairplay · 23/05/2021 15:40

What a great idea for a thread, when I think about everything that needs doing here I freeze and nothing gets done! I'm going to try and join in.. Today I have cleaned the bathroom, sorted the farm box in ds room and now have some to take to the charity shop tomorrow.

Chunkymonkey123 · 23/05/2021 18:13

Glad the bird was ok @BlueLobelia.

Today I did 45 minutes of weeding which made a difference, still loads more to go so this might need to be my job for a few days this week. Also had my Covid jab 😊

SingToTheSky · 23/05/2021 18:44

So tired. Definitely not aiming to start the next project tomorrow!

I’ve been looking at more plants. Where is good to buy indoor plants - is there anywhere reliable online if I can’t go out to browse?

Sparklynewname · 23/05/2021 19:04

We got the mirror down from the wall today so the dining room is almost finished being stripped.
I got DS’s car insured and took him out for a driving lesson so that was all good too 😊

Devlesko · 23/05/2021 19:14

Have learned a valuable lesson today. It doesn't matter if a small project turns into a bigger one.
I'm swopping office and bedroom, thought I'd have it done, but bed is nowhere near ready to go in, so I'm on the settee tonight.
Four bedrooms just me and dh and I'm on the settee.

Moved lots of furniture, hoovered and sorted some stuff so not too bad.
Now a lovely family quiz organised by dd as she couldn't come home this weekend.

Well done to all you commited project (eers) Grin

TitsalinaBumSquash · 23/05/2021 19:59

Today it has poured down with rain so we've been inside.
I have baked a lovely carrot cake to use up some carrots that needed to be used. I also made sloppy joes for dinner.

Not much else productive though if I'm honest, I have a killer period starting so I'm mainly flopping about doing not much.
