One project a day- 2nd thread!

BlueLobelia · 19/05/2021 19:01

Welcome to everyone, old hats, lurkers and newbies.

This is a thread where we try and achieve something, no matter how small, a day.

This was the preamble to the previous thread ;

''......many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :) ''

everyone welcome!

I've started another donation box.
Some more tatty clothes to go in the textile recycling

PurpleTiara · 23/05/2021 22:47

Been a bit shit this week.
But did properly tidy the living room and cleared out a load of boxes to the recycling.

Must weed the garden this week.

Did a shift at the charity shop this morning and I have completed part of my project there (organising the books). Will finish it on Friday during my next shift.

On the home front, today I need to do a big shop which is going to involve a) meal planning and b) making the shopping list.

I also have a lovely new sweater that needs to be washed to get rid of the hanger marks.

There are also a number of piles of laundry scattered around the house. I need to do at least one of those (but that has to be balanced with finding room to dry it). I’d like to do two loads but I don’t know if I will be able find the space to hang it all out today.

And, of course, sort the pile of crap next to my bed.

I’m going to start...right now!

DownUdderer · 24/05/2021 07:35

I've got some laundry on, I'll hang it up later.

Tomorrow I'm going to sew a hem on my next curtain. I might sort out a drawer as well.

It looks like everyone had a really productive few days!

Saturday was really good - we had a gap in the rain so I tookDS and my soilsieve up to the allotment and spent three hours sieving soil, planting herbs and using the stones from the sieve to lay a ‘path’ of sorts. Pictures because I’m proud!!

Yesterday didn’t stop raining. I have given myself personal targets of being in my phone less and doing ‘real’ things more, so we all had a really quiet day. I started knitting and reading again!

Today I need to take the last of the bags to the charity shop and have a general tidy round. Clean the kitchen.

AlohaMolly · 24/05/2021 07:43

Forgot the pictures!

Not much done here yesterday. Cleared up after Saturday night and did a jeans wash. Dozed on the sofa and read my book.

Today - usual jobs of emptying dishwasher, wiping kitchen down and vacuuming. Have a load of laundry on. Will also wash towels.

Also need to do a meal plan for the week. And clean my bathroom.

Today’s ‘extra’ tasks are sorting the Tupperware drawer and tidying the utility room. Also ended up shoving a pile of papers and notebooks into a drawer while tidying on Saturday so need to sort them.

DownUdderer · 24/05/2021 12:44

Nice allotment!

mamakoukla · 24/05/2021 13:30

Public holiday here today so I am giving myself a rest day Grin In reality, I will finish off putting plants into soil as it’s a nice day, starting off cool and getting warmer.

CharityDingle · 24/05/2021 13:32

Didn't finish yesterday's project so will do that today. What I like about posting here is that it puts a goal in place for me. Not a pressure. But it makes me want to achieve whatever I post, however small it might be.

Fnib · 24/05/2021 14:02

I've had a rummage in my freezer and found a couple of bits I can use immediately, and sadly a handful of meaty meals from 2019 which have a plasticy tang from the bags, so they've been binned.
I hate food waste and try so hard not to let it happen, but it's done now Sad

LlamaGiles · 24/05/2021 19:43

Made a huge batch of soup yesterday but not done anything today as under pressure at work and now been informed of a positive covid test at dd's nursery so she's got to isolate and effectively I do too. GUTTED.

Mogloveseggs · 24/05/2021 20:06

@LlamaGiles sorry to hear that is it still 2 weeks? Hope it passes quick for you both and you both stay healthy.

Today's job was taking the hamster to the vets. Not good news. He has a tumour on his back. If it gets worse then it's put to sleep. Poor little guy. I cried Sad

Sparklynewname · 24/05/2021 20:26

Some paint scraping done. Driving lesson for DS and done the hoovering.
Busy busy day at work- I am pooped!

LlamaGiles · 24/05/2021 20:27

@Mogloveseggs oh no, what sad news! Poor hamster.

It's 10 days isolation but to be fair we're already on day 4 so 6 more to go. It's just bad timing, our house is going on the market tomorrow, I'm flat out at work and we were supposed to be going away for the weekend.

Oh no, poor hamster, fingers crossed he is ok.

I've washed all the blankets in the house, the boys have been using them to build blanket forts and they were looking grubby.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 25/05/2021 00:38

I’ve driven DH to work today so that I can keep the car. Today’s jobs are:

  • Laundry, need to do at least 2 loads
  • sweep the floors (mostly newspaper that the cats have had fun shredding)
  • find a box to collect and keep all the party stuff in rather having it scattered around the house
  • try out two new recipes. They involve pastry. I’m intimidated.
  • sort out and deliver the ‘redonations’ from the charity shop I volunteer at - sheets and towels etc that can’t be sold are donated to an animal shelter. I want to check what is in the bags before taking them over there
hilariousnamehere · 25/05/2021 00:45

Hello! Can I sort of lurk for a bit while I get up the courage to commit to actually doing something every day? My life is total chaos (the good kind, but rare free moments) and I'm great at starting new things and terrible at follow through Blush am loving reading all the different projects though and it's making me think :)

Fnib · 25/05/2021 06:17

@Mogloveseggs I am sorry to read this. Poor little soul Sad They may be tiny but they do capture your heart!

I love your photo @AlohaMolly. Also your post made me think about sifting my soil, so I got sucked into looking at sifters online. Still not made it to garden centre but hopefully I can get one there.
I'm feeling quite tired today and it's only Tuesday. Today I'm just going to do the Flylady home blessing (a day late!) and the daily mission which is to retrieve anything that doesn't belong in the lounge. Just cba to think. I'm pleased I batch cooked at the weekend, because I don't have to think about food till Saturday Smile

BlueLobelia · 25/05/2021 07:00

Oh poor little hamster. Thanks I hope things go okay.

@LlamaGiles what shocking timing for isolation. Very best of luck.

Today I am putting some really nice dresses I cannot fit into on facebay. You know the ones..... the ones you spend a fortune on thinking you will lose weight to get into them. Hmm Some still have the tags. I don't spend like that anymore than goodness, what a waste of money.

DownUdderer · 25/05/2021 07:10

I've scrubbed two outdoor steps, cut up a branch, washed a window, did laundry and hung it up. Took bag of clothes to charity shop.

Tomorrow some gardening and scrub more steps.

SingToTheSky · 25/05/2021 08:40

Managed some general decluttering yesterday despite feeling rough. But today I really need to make progress on the DS’ room furniture swapping project. I think first I’ll get him to sort through all his Transformer toys while I’m on the phone (volunteering) as it would be good if we can reduce the size of the box if he can let go of some. Later on I think we’d better clear out his under bed drawers too, so we can then sort his clothes into them. But I’m procrastinating a bit as he’s resistant to the change. It’s hard with such a small bedroom!

BlueLobelia · 25/05/2021 11:44

I started decluttering one kitchen shelf then got right into it. I even stood on a ladder [scared of heights]. I discovered I have yellow split peas so a split pea dhal is on the agenda for tonight. I also discovered we have popcorn kernels. It was a most useful exercise.

We have one entire shelf dedicated to dog and cat treats now. :) Grin

Today's task was to scrape the crumbling mortar from a stone wall we have exposed in the house. I have been putting it off as it's a messy, difficult job but I'm actually really enjoying myself. Few more days work in it but at least it's started.
