One project a day- 2nd thread!

Welcome to everyone, old hats, lurkers and newbies.

This is a thread where we try and achieve something, no matter how small, a day.

This was the preamble to the previous thread ;

''......many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :) ''

everyone welcome!

I thought I'd have a quick scroll while I was finishing my coffee this morning, after the girls had left for school.

You lot inspired me to clear out one of the drawers under my bed! It's now properly organised (apart from the bag of gift bags that I don't think we'll ever use but I put back anyway).

Bottl · 15/10/2021 10:25

Great work, Lucysmam!!

I've just got back from the garage and had a coffee so I have no excuses left to put off my task of the day!!

SydneyCarton · 15/10/2021 11:03

I keep dropping off the thread, but got some motivation yesterday to do 30 mins cleaning and tidying in the kitchen. Didn't get as much done as I wanted because I also had washing up to do, but I have cleared out a heap of random clutter on the work surface which has been annoying me for weeks, plus a good wipe down of a run of cupboards. I think today I'll try to do 30 mins in the children's bedroom as the floor is overwhelmed with clothes and toys (I swear my five-year-old's stuffed animals are actually breeding Grin

List made for the day, and approximate timings on it. It helps me to focus.

Peridot1 · 15/10/2021 11:46

Hello Lucysmam- we seem to be on quite a few of the same threads!

I’ve not been doing much this week but identified a drawer in the kitchen that I can clear out. It was DS’s ‘goodie’ drawer as my nephew calls it. In reality it is full of the crap that DS buys. DS is 20! And has gone back to uni.

So I’ll clear it out today and can use it to store some chopping boards and some trays.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 17/10/2021 03:11

Woohoo! I have been able to keep my username on my new device! I remain a DifficultBloodyWoman!

I’ve done a lot of work on the patio and I’m quite pleased with the way it looks. Just a bit more planting to do and it will be perfect (or at least as good as it is going to get).

Laundry is verging on out of control so that is today’s job.

I’ve also got a honey-do list for DH (new cat litter tray system and fix a shelf I broke - I’d do that myself but I don’t know where the drill is).

Peridot1 · 17/10/2021 12:12

Yay! Good news re name!

I haven’t done much lately. DH has buggered up his knee somehow so is —useless— out of action. Which is a shame as we have lots to do in the garden. Not stuff I can or want to do by myself.

I did the fruit for my Xmas cake on Friday. Which meant I didn’t clear out the drawer I meant to clear out. May do that today.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 20/10/2021 09:52

Hope your DH makes a speedy recovery, Peridot.

Today, I wrapped and packed birthday presents for family, ready to be posted tomorrow.

I also booked our flights for Christmas. Fingers, toes and legs are all crossed that it goes according plan!

I am now writing a comprehensive to do list for tomorrow as I have the day off. At the moment, most of the list is reminders for DH to do things that only he can do, for example, business related tax stuff. I’ve just told him that if we ever split up it will be because of his attitude to things like this. He is an ostrich!

But on the other hand, he sorted out the kitty litter station for me so I might keep him around for a bit longer.

lucysmam · 20/10/2021 18:44

Hi @Peridot1 we do seem to cross paths quite often! How's your dh's knee now?

I've been working my way round the kitchen cupboards, with dd2's help, this week. Just the cup cupboard, chest freezer and top of the big freezer to do. Hopefully tomorrow.

Pantry cupboard of doom is Friday's job while Christmas cake one of two bakes.

I need to visit the under sink cupboard of doom without a helper though; she puts everything back & I'm reasonably sure some of it hasn't been touched since I cleared out at this time last year.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 30/10/2021 01:25

Do you want to know how to get things done?

Invite people for dinner.

Nothing like the fear of friends seeing my slovenly lack of housekeeping to keep me motivated.

Today’s project list:
Wash and dry and replace outdoor sofa covers
Clean the couch
Dust/polish furniture
Sort out the massive pile of papers on the coffee table
Clean the floors (delegated to DH)
Clean the downstairs loo and secure it with crime scene tape to prevent DH from using it (I’m only partly joking)

Chunkymonkey123 · 31/10/2021 19:50

@DifficultBloodyWoman 😂 that’s very true! More cleaning is done before people arrive than at any other time!
Yesterday I cleaned the oven and behind the fridge (it was disgusting). On Friday I tried to sort out my tax return issue but instead sorry 2 hours on the phone to HMRC with no resolve 😩
Today I went through my wardrobe and got all the clothes out that I can’t wear because they needed ironing (I never iron!) and ironed them so that’s done.
I have bought an effy remote hoover that I love so that’s sorting the hoovering for me.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 01/11/2021 01:11

@Chunkymonkey123 behind the fridge! That has been out of sight, out of mind until now. It has been a while. I think I will have to add that to my project list now you’ve put it on my radar.

I’m pleased to report that the house was cleaned thoroughly before guests arrived (downstairs, anyway). DH and I have also had a discussion about what constitutes cleaning a toilet. Apparently, we have been working from different definitions. 🙄

And, for another gold star on my reward chart, the clean up was completed before bedtime! It was lovely to walk downstairs this morning to a clean and tidy and organised kitchen and living room.

DownUdderer · 01/11/2021 09:26

I scrubbed two tubs. When they dry I'll fill them with soft toys and find a cupboard to put them in.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 15/01/2022 07:33

Well, it is half way through January and my project list isn’t getting any shorter.

Would anyone like to join me in restarting this thread?

My projects for next few days:

Repair umbrella/parasol on patio
Weed the patio
Numerous little sewing jobs
Put doors on pantry cupboards

That’s enough to keep me going for a few days!
