One project a day- 2nd thread!

BlueLobelia · 19/05/2021 19:01

Welcome to everyone, old hats, lurkers and newbies.

This is a thread where we try and achieve something, no matter how small, a day.

This was the preamble to the previous thread ;

''......many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :) ''

everyone welcome!

Unexpected project today.

I'm not proud nor shamed of the fact that me and dh were/are the proverbial two drifters. Moon River was written for us.
We've had a very exciting time together and the kids have grown up, lets say, a little different.

Due to so many recent events in our family, dh actually stated before he wants to think about what he wants to do with the rest of his life.
I'm a bit more eager to do this but have always been pretty useless.

So we have a new project, direction in life. Oh, and considering a final move too.

Devlesko · 21/05/2021 15:48

@AlohaMolly

How is it 11.15 already?! I’ve unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher, folded three loads of laundry and got another wash on.

I sorted through DS’ underwear drawer and his T-shirts and pyjamas and pulled out the ones for either charity shop or to pass down.

The house is still a tip though and I am feeling quite overwhelmed and pretty useless this week.

Aw, I know that overwhelmed feeling, I end up doing nothing in that situation, as nothing at a set time to force me. As my mum used to say "Don't fret, it'll still be there in the morning".
Sparklynewname · 21/05/2021 15:57

Well I had great plans for today! I had a meeting at lunchtime and DH rang an hour in saying that the vaccine centre had a spare for DS so I ditched the meeting and took DS for his jab.
Then went to the shop to look at wallpaper- it comes in books here which made me nervous. I picked up 1 book and it was £64.99 a roll. So I put it back and left the shop 😂
DS has the dentist in half an hour and I am going to struggle to get him there because he’s being a pain already about it.
I still need to try and get the rest of the wallpaper stripped.

What a great idea for a thread. I definitely need help/motivation/support/nagging or whatever! I’m great at doing lists of what needs doing. Not so great at the actual doing!

We moved house six months ago and are still not sorted properly. Also having a bathroom semi renovated and downstairs cloakroom totally renovated so have stuff everywhere. And as the tiling hasn’t been done yet nothing is finished enough to put things away. Am about to have a sense of humour failure if the tiler doesn’t appear next week.

I did manage to get the British Heart Foundation to come and collect some furniture and other stuff this morning. Multi tasked that one as it all happened while I was at the hairdresser!

Am just having a cup of tea and will hang up some washing and the finish sorting out my cookery books into the book shelf and shelving in island unit. I’ve arranged them by colour and it looks great and then I found more so need to re-jig some of it. Yes I have too many cookery books!

mamakoukla · 21/05/2021 20:14

So this is the slightly different Echinacea. I’ve been creating a pollinator bed and have a number of echinacea in pale pink to peach to a hot pink. This is going to be planted on the side closest to the tree

One project a day- 2nd thread!
mamakoukla · 21/05/2021 20:15

Echinacea has also proven to be fairly hardy and rather tolerant of negligent watering..,,

Divineswirls · 21/05/2021 21:34

Whilst hunting for waterproof trousers, which I still haven't found, I found a box of DC old School PE kit with other random bits in so I've cleared the box and rehoused all the items.

Nuggetnugget · 21/05/2021 21:40

Hi. I lurched a little on the first thread and thought what a good idea. I also purchased the Organised Mum method book today (feeling inspired)

One job I completed today was clearing all the bottles of cleaning products under the sink. Using up the last few drops and placing all in a plastic tub incase of spills

I also bought a new sink basin - it's a lovely sage green and v large so can soak clothes or dishes.

Finally took my wedding ring to the jeweller to be mended.

Nuggetnugget · 21/05/2021 21:40

Lurked (not lurched)

2020nymph · 21/05/2021 22:09

Huge cleaning/tidying frenzy this morning, although three key clutter areas were bagged up as I didn't have time to sort them. Good news is that it looks like we can move next year.... so I have a year to declutter the whole house!

Also picked up two parcels, bought a birthday present, bought some scissors which are now in my wrapping paper boxes. I bought two ikea wrapping paper storage boxes one for Christmas and one for everything else. They now also have tape and scissors in too. Smile

SingToTheSky · 21/05/2021 22:18

Well I did not get my bathroom project done as I spent most of the day in bed. I did manage a little tidying in the bathroom while bathing the 3yo though so that’s something.

SingToTheSky · 21/05/2021 22:19

Tomorrow’s project will just be a general tidy up/clean what I can to make the house look nicer.

I have been browsing more plants online!

DownUdderer · 22/05/2021 05:11

Today I've done gardening jobs. I want the get out there again tomorrow. The shower afterwards is the best bit!

I want to say that if you are feeling overwhelmed, then I've been there. I know how you're feeling. The mental strain of worrying about getting something done can ware you out. I found that just picking up five items and sorting them out helps. Decluttering five items helps even more.

Good work everyone and good luck for the next small project.

@Devlesko that sounds so exciting! New directions are a wonderful thing. I hope you find everything you wish for. Thanks

That looks really pretty. Love the idea of a pollinator bed.

Will do some admin related to a hobby group I'm involved in. Seems a bit daunting but I know once I get started I can do it fairly easily and will feel relieved it's done.

BlueLobelia · 22/05/2021 06:46

I am not sure what I will do today. I have to do the regular house tidying. I need to sort out which clothes of the DCs I want to try and sell. I guess if I divide them up by age groups I can sell them as a bundle. Might as well get something back for them!!

Peridot1 · 22/05/2021 07:50

That echinacea looks nice.

Will be adding to the Blue Lobelia gang shortly as was planning on putting some in some pots on our patio anyway. We bought some plants for the patio pots in April but they all died off in the frosts. Even though we had them in a mini greenhouse.

We are having friends over for dinner tonight so today will be general tidying and cleaning and cooking.

Yesterday I finished sorting the cookbooks and cleared the hallway. It still has boxes of new bathroom fittings - sink unit etc - but they will have to stay there.

Finally heard from the tiler who will not be here next week as expected but hopefully the following week. Slightly annoyed as would have delayed the plumber pulling everything out of the downstairs cloakroom if we’d known we would be without it for over 2 weeks.

A few months ago I wrote a list of everything we need to do in the house room by room. I’m going to hunt that out and start working from it next week.

Thanks for this thread @BlueLobelia. I was feeling overwhelmed at what I need to do and by knowing I wasn’t doing it but I know from the past that this approach really helps.

Chunkymonkey123 · 22/05/2021 07:52

Today I need to plant out all of my veg seedlings. They are starting to look unhappy in their pots so need to stick them out and if they die I’ll buy plug plants. I’ve been avoiding this for ages, no idea why really!! Think the weather is depressing me.
I also need to sort out clothes that my DSs have outgrown. They are in that in between stage where their clothes look too small but the next size up drowns them! I’ve already got a cupboard full of outgrown clothes that I need to get rid of.

Fnib · 22/05/2021 08:18

Morning everyone! I love how your thread has evolved @BlueLobelia Flowers You've got us all into gardening!
I'm definitely going to garden centre today because I put it on my calendar. I did get the area I want to plant tidied up a bit yesterday, so it's all ready to go!
I'm where you're at @Devlesko, right down to my gloriously unorthodox and wonderful adult children! Good luck with your grand plans.
I couldn't agree more with *DownUdderer - I too have been totally overwhelmed in my life and it really can get better. I have a bit of survivors guilt now my children have flown. The memories of being knee deep in children's clothes and clutter is still raw....
Have a great weekend everyone Brew Cake

grumpypug · 22/05/2021 09:09

I only seem to get stuff done on a weekend!

Today I want to give the living room A Good Clean, clean out the pets, wash the front door and sweep the outdoor steps.

I have to collect an electrical item I sent for mending and get my second covid injection. Hopefully I will be fine afterwards.

Happy weekend Grin

Divineswirls · 22/05/2021 10:55

I've dropped DD off for her DofE expedition so that's one task done. It's drizzling outside. I didn't sleep well so feeling tired. Have put a wash on so that's something. Need to hoover and will properly clean the kitchen as opposed to daily wipe down. I'm off out later to see friends unless it's bucketing down as first half is outside but will join for the indoor part after.

Devlesko · 22/05/2021 13:26

Thank you @BlueLobelia Thanks

Just a bit of housework today, ds2 is coming round later.
Mil has given us a lot of her kitchen ware, we don't need it as getting rid ourselves.
So ds2 cops the lot this afternoon.

Moving bedrooms has been put off until tomorrow, so just tidying up really and making it easier for tomorrow.

Divineswirls · 22/05/2021 14:09

Ok so cleaned the kitchen sink and wiped the tops down, went on the cross trainer, in the middle of showering used spontex sponge for bathroom to clean inside of shower and glass door then once out of shower used squeegee thing to finish it off nicely. Also hung up net curtains in DD's room at her request and made some bread which no matter what alwys makes me feel like I've been a bit productive.

There are 2 kitchen drawers I have to clear out properly I've realised so will do those tomorrow along with the hoovering which I just keep putting off.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 22/05/2021 15:42

I have so far today cleaned out my fridge (blee at the vegetable drawer!) and put everything in lovely nice baskets.
I've also sorted DS's medical cabinet and moved a few bits around in the kitchen. We've pretty much done that room now, only 8.5 more rooms to go 🤦🏻‍♀️
