One project a day- 2nd thread!

BlueLobelia · 19/05/2021 19:01

Welcome to everyone, old hats, lurkers and newbies.

This is a thread where we try and achieve something, no matter how small, a day.

This was the preamble to the previous thread ;

''......many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :) ''

everyone welcome!

I would like to join. I have been a bit down recently. Not active enough m

FilthyBicycle · 19/05/2021 22:54

Thanks for the new thread.

Today I spent 2 hours in the sunshine weeding a large flower bed while simultaneously attending a surprisingly interesting training course on teams. It was bliss.

Definite guffaw here!
DownUdderer · 20/05/2021 02:12

I've cleaned a window, inside and out. I've hung out wet towels. I've dusted off the set of drawers.

In a minute I'm putting on another load of laundry.

Tomorrow I've got some garden jobs.

TenCornMaidens · 20/05/2021 06:26

Good morning! Yesterday I potted up a rosemary plant outside the front door and refilled the bird feeders.

AlohaMolly · 20/05/2021 07:05

I also think the weird weather has effected growing - I planted bluebell bulbs last year for this spring and they’re only just flowering. Other bluebells that were established last year in my village flowered late too, not as late as mine though. DM tells me that ‘new’ plants can often be later though.

Today I’m working all day but I intend to finish my monthly meal plan for may... even if it’s 3/4 if the way through May already Blush

Morning! I am feeling pleased with myself because I'm up, showered and stretched, I know what's for dinner because I got it out of freezer last night and I've had a big glass of water. And I've had time to look into growing lobelia (don't laugh, I'm a 55 year old total garden novice!) I think I have a spot where it would like to grow. DH dug the area over a couple of weeks ago because it was full of weeds (previous house owners had planted that fast growing conifer, and it need removing because its right in front of the kitchen window) I think I probably need to enhance the soil a bit and then buy some plants to put in, rather than attempt to grow anything from seed. Garden centre is not far out of my way so I'll go and have a look today or tomorrow.
I'm really quite excited!

🤣

I had to look up lobelia. It’s so pretty! Is it definitely an outdoor plant? I’m wanting to get lots of plants for inside the house (any recommendations for unkillable pot plants would be fab...) but I’m not even thinking about the garden this year.

I have predictably woken up achy (I have fibromyalgia among other things and had a busy morning yesterday) but I really like the idea of always doing One House Project as it’ll mean I at least achieve something no matter how I’m feeling. Some days I am much more productive and will get more done but having a focus is always good!

So today my project is a bit vague as the main aim is tidying up for my parents’ visit on Sunday. Not that they judge mess (they’d be hypocrites if they did 🤣) but I’d like to have a nice tidy house!

I’ll focus on the hall and landing today. I’ll be back with a detailed list, just need to deal with the 3yo who has locked herself in the bathroom in a strop 🙄

Catname · 20/05/2021 08:39

I didn’t log my efforts yesterday so checking in now and may do more later. I washed about 40 of the massive pile of flowerpots I’ve amassed from planting and stored them away tidily. I have created over 200 plant labels so there are so many more still to do in the pile I’ve created but they are small ones so it doesn’t look like such a big task. There will be even more by the time I actually finish planting!

Today’s task has revealed itself as I’m typing. One of the cats has just been sick under the middle of the bed 🤢 Since I have to pull the mattress off and remove the slats to clean it up, I might as well use the opportunity to turn the mattress at the same time.

CarolNoE · 20/05/2021 08:51

Placemarking, still working through the first thread. Thanks OP and everyone else...hoping these tips will finally spur me on to enjoy my home.

Equimum · 20/05/2021 08:55

Yesterday, I weeded a flower border and ‘mucked out’ our living room.

Today, I am going to deep clean the bathroom, fully clean out the rabbit and wash our bedding.

SingToTheSky · 20/05/2021 08:58

Right, little one off to nursery with DH. DS (11, home educated) is awake although doesn’t look it yet 🤣

So my task list for the hall/landing project:

Hall
🎯put yesterday’s clean laundry away
🎯bag up clothing for rags again - binbag got caught and ripped - and put in cupboard as we have no way of getting it to the tip yet
🎯empty buggy basket (hardly used now but doesn’t fold easily so it could at least look tidier!)
🎯remove random crap from “phone shelf”
🎯clean phone/router
🎯tidy mask basket
🎯remove random crap from bottom of stairs/bannister
🎯hang up coats/bags in cupboard
🎯hoover stairs
🎯quick dust of skirting/radiators

Landing
🎯grab everything from the floor (thanks, DD2) and put in a tub to stash in Trofast units
🎯clear and wipe top of units (was a dumping ground but I’m determined to keep it nice!)
🎯bring up a couple of big plants from kitchen windowsill and put on Trofast with new pot trays
🎯hoover
🎯quick dust of skirting/radiators

Some of the above will be delegated. I would normally count the above as two projects I think, but given the time frame before the visit (especially given I don’t know how I will react to the jab this time - I had a flare up after the first) I need to get it done and it doesn’t feel like too much really.

Thank you for the warm welcome BlueLobelia - I think this thread will be very helpful for me. I have ADHD and although medication is helping me get a lot more done, I’ve realised I am still very much a butterfly in my approach to housework - always flitting about and doing random bits and pieces as I think of them. Still better than doing nothing but it’s inefficient and probably makes me more tired too! With this thread I can start to organise my tasks more.

SingToTheSky · 20/05/2021 09:18

Oh and also, does anyone mark in projects in the diary? I’ve got a few in mind and I’m thinking I might be wise to pencil in some for particular times. Eg I need to go through all DD2’s clothes and replace with next size up stuff (mostly already bought in sales), bag up stuff for nursery spares etc. It’s not the wisest use of time right now but I want to do it before the summer holidays, so I might do it in half term. If I write it down I’ll be more likely to do it!

Divineswirls · 20/05/2021 09:19

Thanks for the new thread @BlueLobelia and >>waves

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 20/05/2021 09:26

My one task today is to get rid of some recyclables from the garage. I hope to also clear out the veg drawer in the fridge and tidy the pet stuff up in the hallway, but garage progress must be made!

RunningKatie · 20/05/2021 09:43

Morning! I fell off the last thread and it's no coincidence that I also stopped Team TOMMing at the same time.
So, this lovely new thread has inspired me and I am back.
I'm going to tackle the ironing/folding pile tonight, I also have to sew up a teddy bear who has burst his seams, poor thing!

SingToTheSky · 20/05/2021 11:42

I have done stuff! It has been nice to have a proper aim and stay in one place. I kept being distracted by noticing/remembering other stuff that needs doing in other rooms, but I stayed focused on the hallway. Phone shelf is now clean and organised. DD1 has lots of her stuff to take upstairs after school 🤣 I really want to try and keep the bottom of the stairs clear from now on - I’m surprised nobody’s tripped and broken a limb to be honest 😳

frugalkitty · 20/05/2021 11:47

I've been on the phone to sort out some power of attorney stuff for my folks, so that's my job for the day as I've been putting it off.

I have also collected DS2's prescription from the chemist and posted a return, so a productive morning here so far.

SydneyCarton · 20/05/2021 12:07

RunningKatie I have been TOMMing this week and last week inspired by this thread (it's been very stop start for me over the last couple of years!), and the place is looking a whole lot better already. Not sure what today's project will be - my bathrobe was looking a bit grubby so I've put that through the wash, that might have to do if I can't find anything else

Devlesko · 20/05/2021 12:27

I'm job hunting everyday atm, not worked for an employer since being about 20, so this will be interesting. Just looking for a couple of days, but it's like asking for the earth.

Besides this I'm devising some sort of schedule so I can fit everything in.

Finally, tidying upstairs so I can start swopping 2 bedrooms round on saturday.

Getting side tracked watching video's of my grand daughter (2) dancing and singing.

Sparklynewname · 20/05/2021 16:41

I have taken the carpet to the tip and been to choose new wallpaper. I have 2 contenders of the 4 I brought home.
I have started stripping the wallpaper now too.
I have an online session tonight so will be doing that from 19:30.
Weather is filthy here so not managed to do any garden pottering. Love that so many people are going to have bluelobelia in their gardens 😊

Mogloveseggs · 20/05/2021 16:51

Ok mot booked. About to go get dh from work then find pension form. Also need to empty the bins and clean the hamster out as it's bin day tomorrow. Oh and post a return.
Not sure about tomorrow yet. I've got three appointments so there might not be any chance to do anything.
