One project a day- 2nd thread!

BlueLobelia · 19/05/2021 19:01

Welcome to everyone, old hats, lurkers and newbies.

This is a thread where we try and achieve something, no matter how small, a day.

This was the preamble to the previous thread ;

''......many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :) ''

everyone welcome!

I am going to have an easier day today. Sometimes it’s just important to pull back on the throttle. We are still under a stay at home order so a brief trip to my favourite family run garden nursery was a restorative task for me. My task tomorrow is to dig the plants in. I did buy two blue lobelia plants, some different thyme to go into a flower bed, two unusual Echinacea plants and a rosemary plant. No basil to be had hum ho! Do like a cheery basil plant and I love to run my fingers through the rosemary and lavender bushes. Yesterday’s transplanted tomatoes haven’t keeled over yet Grin

Pension sorted

Divineswirls · 20/05/2021 19:09

Made bread, picked up prescription and filled tank up with petrol. Didn't end up buying plants as weather is horrific

LlamaGiles · 20/05/2021 19:28

Estate agent photographer came today so my job was rushing around moving things (mostly dd's toys, nappies etc) out of view and back again afterwards. Also posted a couple of eBay sales. All about continued declutter here!

SingToTheSky · 20/05/2021 19:47

I met my aims today, for the hall and landing :) it’s really helped having the focus of the particular project rather than just jumping between random tasks. I was itching to move onto another room (want to spruce up the bathroom, kitchen and living room before Sunday) but the evening was mega hectic. I think I’ll try and rest tonight as my arm is already aching from jab #2.

BlueLobelia · 20/05/2021 20:29
@BlueLobelia it's too early for lobelia and geraniums to flower just yet - especially with this cool weather. I plant these every year - this year's are not ready to flower yet. Patience!

I need some more bedding for another part of the garden now - something a bit bigger/taller.
Oh thank goodness! I have been a bit baffled by my garden - though tio be fair I have never been much of a gardener.

I have been looking at iron ornamental arches for the side path. Some years ago I over-ordered roses from the David Austin website. They have been stuck in pots since and have been heroic at not dying. I have two yellow climbers (with an apricot centre) that really ought to be treated with more respect.

@Devlesko

I'm job hunting everyday atm, not worked for an employer since being about 20, so this will be interesting. Just looking for a couple of days, but it's like asking for the earth.

Besides this I'm devising some sort of schedule so I can fit everything in.

Finally, tidying upstairs so I can start swopping 2 bedrooms round on saturday.

Getting side tracked watching video's of my grand daughter (2) dancing and singing.

very best of luck @Devlesko

Oh Echinacea! That sounds intriguing!

Night everyone. Until tomorrow....

I was going to just watch tv but this thread forced me to go downstairs, hang out washing and put a load on, do the washing up and get something out of the freezer for tomorrow’s dinner. I think these all count as daily tasks but I’m struggling to keep on top of them let alone anything else on the days I work. Less to do at the weekend though when I will hopefully have more energy!

Well done everyone! The weeds in my garden are growing well. My veg seedlings are looking a little worse for wear though!

aibutohavethisusername · 20/05/2021 21:56

Joining in properly, rather than just following the previous thread. Will start tomorrow 😀

SingToTheSky · 20/05/2021 22:41

I may have browsed some plant stores online earlier :o

I think my project will be the bathroom tomorrow, if I’m up to it. With any luck I’ll feel ok and can also start on the living room or kitchen.

bathroom
🎯clean grouting and sealant round bath (I will make a start on this tonight by putting bleach-soaked cotton wool balls on the sealant until the morning)
🎯get any rubbish/non bathroom stuff out
🎯empty bin and put a bag in
🎯replace shower head
🎯scrub shower “curtain” (it’s a glass door) and the seal bit at the bottom
🎯scrub the floor
🎯scrub bath
🎯scrub sink
🎯scrub cistern
🎯clean outside of bath
🎯shine taps on bath and sink
🎯empty and clean trolley
🎯dust
🎯clean shelf and windowsill
🎯sort toiletries and arrange on windowsill
🎯change razors and see which DH wants to keep, then store them safely
🎯clean windows and mirror

Think that’s about it. If I feel crap tomorrow I’ll just try and do the tidying bits and leave the detailed cleaning until I’m better.

Dev I’m starting to job hunt too, it’s daunting! 💐

2020nymph · 20/05/2021 23:42

We have an estate agent coming round tomorrow to value our house so today has been all hands on deck, decluttering and cleaning.

More to do tomorrow.

DownUdderer · 21/05/2021 05:07

Rain here, no garden jobs done. But I did sweep under the sink table. Tomorrow I hope to get into the garden.

I had an air con guy give us a quote today, we're hoping to book that soon.

AlohaMolly · 21/05/2021 07:37

Good morning everyone! I’m so inspired by everyone getting on.

I was meant to be going to the allotment today and planting up a trolley load of veg I bought last weekend but it’s basically a monsoon here today Sad I’d kept a lot of them in a bin lid in the garden for ease of transporting and I’m looking at them now and they look like they’re in a swimming pool!

I might have to relent and put wellies on for the school run!

So today I’m going to get to grips with the house in time for the weekend. It looks like there’s a mountain of washing to sort despite doing it last week!

Iceisnice · 21/05/2021 07:56

Thanks for the new thread @BlueLobelia!
Yesterday's tasks were washing all of the inside and outside bins, 5 loads of washing and cleaning the dishwasher. Hope you all have a lovely Friday!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 21/05/2021 09:25

I've found you! I saw this thread a while ago and meant to book mark it but then got distracted. Blush

Can I join? I need an oompfh! I work in a 14 days on 2 days off pattern and currently I get home each day and raid the cupboard for snacks and then sleep until the kids get home Blush

I'm not working this weekend so I'm going to tackle some bigger sorting jobs.

Today is bed changing, 5 beds in the house; I've done one just now and will strip the 2 younger DC's beds before I leave for work.

AlohaMolly · 21/05/2021 11:18

How is it 11.15 already?! I’ve unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher, folded three loads of laundry and got another wash on.

I sorted through DS’ underwear drawer and his T-shirts and pyjamas and pulled out the ones for either charity shop or to pass down.

The house is still a tip though and I am feeling quite overwhelmed and pretty useless this week.

Mogloveseggs · 21/05/2021 11:21

Today's jobs
Post pension form
Sort ASOS return
Message milk lady ✔️
Get bondaweb to sort Dd jumper-it's an off shoulder jumper but has annoying long bits that flap out. Hoping sticking them down will sort it.

SingToTheSky · 21/05/2021 11:46

Argh. Project of the day is rest I think! I was too tired to do the bleaching last night, arm ache set in and this morning I have the same sicky headache as I did after jab #1. Most frustrating.

Fnib · 21/05/2021 11:50

Did water/shower/stretch combo first thing.
Remembered to get a frozen soup out for lunch. Dinner's going to have to be an omelette as there's not much left in fridge.
Bedding from spare room is on to wash as cat likes to sleep on it so I do it every now and again.
Not made it to the plant place but tomorrow's another day.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 21/05/2021 12:11

Ok, I cleaned the bathroom. Not the bathroom I had originally intended to clean but that is a minor detail.

SingToTheSky - that’s a great list. I’ll use it on the next bathroom!

Molehillfromamountain · 21/05/2021 13:41

What a great idea for a thread. I'm overwhelmed at the moment with a lot of DIY renovations going on and many things have slipped, this will help keep me in track
Today I've emptied the kids wormery, (They all survived.) put some paint away in the shed and folded and put away a basket of laundry.

BlueLobelia · 21/05/2021 13:54

Today we had the alarm system serviced. That's not so much a project for me as DH sorted it.

I am currently washing the Dcs favourite hoodies in loads of fabric conditioner so they are super comfy for the weekend. Then i will iron them in front of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

I have shuffled money around bank accounts so I can pay bills.

I gave Number Two cat a major cuddle and a snuggle as she was looking disgruntled.

Hello everyone. Quieter weekend for me after a hectic week last week when I did a lot. Today I've put a couple of items on local free sites and framed a picture for my sister.
