I don't mind spiders at all (does this make me weird? I suspect it might) and, living in an old house, we have plenty of them. But I had a fright a few weeks ago when I kept finding strange beetles whizzing about the house and couldn't work out what they were.

Intensive googling suggested they looked a bit like longhorn beetles and I freaked out, given that apparently these are massively destructive to wood and we live in a 400-year-old timber-framed house.

Then I calmed down a bit because it seems longhorn beetles are a known pest around Surrey, but we're nowhere near Surrey. Finally I found a website with a picture of a critter exactly like 'our' beetles and it was a forest longhorn beetle, which can hatch and emerge from log-piles but are otherwise harmless. DH had stacked wood inside for our fire and I think they were coming from there.

He moved the wood back outside and we haven't seen any more. Thank God. I'd had visions of waking up one morning in a giant heap of sawdust and no actual house Shock

That makes you lucky, @HildaTablet Smile

Yesterday decided to go out despite having breathing problems. I decided to go to the local Argos. I can bus there but it is one way so would have to walk back down the road before getting the bus.

Got to Argos and they had decided to close temporarily. Bastards! Do they not know what a bother it is for me???? So upset I had to go into Nero for a flat white (and a slice of Cappuchino cake!).

However, I cheered up when I got back as the postie had left 3 Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks, 2 cream eyeshadows and a book about Nick Groff - Ghost Adventures from TV Series!

Today I had to go to Hospital to see a nurse in the Heart failure unit. She was very thorough, I had an ECG and blood tests, she told me that because of the fluid on my lung I have to have more pillows so I am sitting up in bed. I have managed to order some for later today from Argos. She also gave me some water tablets which I hope will get rid of the fluid.

I have to take in less fluid as well which will be hard as being diabetic I am always thirsty! But will have to manage! Also I really really have to manage my eating habits better. I was doing ok but since going to work by taxi I have made a habit of having toasted sarnies with my coffee! Of course, now, that and cappuchino cake are off the menu. Drat it!

Hopefully you will ace it in August Sprouts sorry they asked tricky questions this time.

DD said the mousetrap after a month has caught a mouse, all of us are we are not going near that but poor mouse and we are awaiting DH. DD said she kicked it a little bit and it moved a bit but she wasn't sure if it was dead mouse bounce.

Had chicken pie with veg, mash and gravy for lunch. DH came back quickly to have lunch together.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 20/05/2021 15:59

@HildaTablet
Since DD has introduced me to instagram I have '#spiders' to follow with absolutely wonderful pictures of the most beautiful and amazing spiders!

@Deathraystare Flowers but no Cake I could never get the hang of liptstick (or make up in general).

HelenaJustina · 20/05/2021 16:52

No side effects from vaccine other than slightly sore arm if I lift it above shoulder height, am oddly proud of this ‘achievement’

MissConductUS · 20/05/2021 16:57

Sprouts, sorry to hear about your exam. At least you have plenty of time to study up before you take it again.

DH's visiting nurse just arrived. I saw her on the Ring doorbell camera. The PT is supposed to come later today.

Living surrounded by a forest we are quite used to a lot of bugs in the house.

Thank you all for your good wishes. I need to practise so that nerves will not get the better of me.

MissConductUS · 20/05/2021 17:10

Sprouts, is it a standardized test you can get online tutoring for? We did that with the DC's uni entrance tests and it was a huge help and stress reliever for them.

It's lovely here today so I'm going for a quick walk at lunchtime.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus

Thank you for your kind thoughts! Feeling a bit mis, as everything I like (cake, chips, crisps, chocolate is now out of bounds. Cannot get excited over lettuce somehow!!!

Frownette · 20/05/2021 18:12

Aw @Deathraystare what's on your new menu? Is dark chocolate allowed?

I'd miss toasted sandwiches so you have my sympathy. I nearly translated chips as crisps, there are too many Americans on here Grin

MissConductUS · 20/05/2021 18:27

Not to nit pick, Frownette, but there's only one American here, plus a couple of ex-pat Brits.

DH's nurse left. I got an alert when the doorbell camera picked her up leaving. She was there for a good long visit.

DD asked me to add some funds to her uni small payments account (mostly used for laundry and sundries). We've also found out the cost of her summer room and board if we have to pay it. It's pretty reasonable, so I'm not bothered if we do have to cover it.

DeathRay, I'm sorry, but so many of the foods we like are really not good for us other than as occasional treats. The diuretics should really help.

DH recovery going well?

soddingkitten · 20/05/2021 18:44

Sodding brought a whole chicken breast (uncooked) earlier. 😂 He was most put out that DH immediately took it off him and put it in the food waste caddy.

soddingkitten · 20/05/2021 18:44

Brought... home... through the cat flap

MissConductUS · 20/05/2021 19:22

@Frownette

DH recovery going well?
So far so good, but it's early days. His physical therapist arrived a little while ago. I had no idea the Ring system would be so good for keeping an eye on things.

Sodding, where do you suppose he found an uncooked chicken breast? Could he have nicked it from your neighbor's kitchen?

OP posts:
sproutsandparsnips · 20/05/2021 20:48

MissConductUS sadly not. It is a simulated consultation with examiner questions afterwards. You have to keep your head together to remember to ask the right questions. I don't have a problem with getting the right diagnosis etc but the process to get there went awry mainly due to my nerves. Not sure how I can overcome these.
Keep waking at night in a cold sweat.....
Will your DH have physical therapy at home every day? This seems like a good service.

Silkiecats · 20/05/2021 20:50

Glad your DH is doing well MissC

Dh is finally back and has relocated mouse 🐁 to green bin saying he will be happy there as food in it. Ds is not convinced.

Squirrel26 · 20/05/2021 20:51

When I was young one of my friends had a family cat who stole a neighbour's roast beef joint that was 'resting' on a worktop.

He was legendary.

Silkiecats · 20/05/2021 20:58

I have been looking up places of the Isles of Scilly, one said they did porridge thunder and lightening followed by a full English breakfast Shock

MissConductUS · 20/05/2021 21:06

I'm off to get my teeth cleaned at the dentist, then I'll head home to make dinner.

Sprouts, the PT is coming back on Monday, then 3-4 times a week from then on. It is good service. The nurse looked very sharp.

I checked in with Lovely Neighbour and it was not hers. Now he is roaming further afield it is possible he’s found other houses with non-microchipped cat flaps and has a buffet circuit. We’ll never know.

When I was young one of my friends had a family cat who stole a neighbour's roast beef joint that was 'resting' on a worktop.

We had a cat like this when I was in primary school. Sausages, small meat joints and defrosting turkeys (nibbled in situ) from other people’s kitchens, nothing was sacred. He was bold in many respects and we loved him to distraction. To my Mum he was the delinquent teen she was always clearing up after and aologising for.

Frownette · 20/05/2021 22:08

Uh oh, soddingkitten is becoming soddingcat, terrorising the neighbourhood!

Sorry MissC, I thought there were a few americanos here!

Dull news: I'm about to refill my water bottle, it's very windy here.

soddingkitten · 20/05/2021 22:20

Very windy here too. It is blowing down the chimney and making a racket.

theDudesmummy · 20/05/2021 22:26

I have dull yet exciting news, DH made home made sausages today and we are having some for supper. They are always good.
