Cats demanded food with thinly veiled menaces while I was in a Teams meeting.

Great picture. At our house, we call this DCL - dirty cat look.

No one has sorted PT for DH, not even the case manager at the hospital who was supposed to do so. When I rang her about it she suggested a dodgy agency not near us who are out of network for our insurance. Massive fail. The surgeon's office is now working on it.

I put the landfill bin and the food bin out just now. Bin day is tomorrow. Recycling is next week.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/05/2021 19:46

DHL have delivered a parcel to my 4th floor neighbours - 5h floor was too much for them. My "barefoot stair descending" - skills still leave a lot to be desired Grin

MissConductUS · 19/05/2021 20:02

Welcome, @Daisymclazy, and thanks for sharing your bin news. I've noticed on MN that everything to do with bins is an endless source of interest. Where I am Tuesday is rubbish pickup, Wednesday is paper recycling and Thursdays is mixed glass and plastic. Once a month is bulk pick up day, when they'll take away large items like old furniture for the dump tip.

I made a special trip out to the pharmacy after work to collect a repeat prescription that I requested at my GP surgery last week. The pharmacy hasn’t received it yet. 😠 I will call the surgery tomorrow. I’m betting it has been held for collection even though I instructed them to send it to my pharmacy.

Acetaminophen is paracetamol here.

Sodding has had one of his hungry days and eaten 2 pouches as well as his dry food today. Shyboy is recovered from his op last week, so the two of them are back to exploring together.

Spudlet · 19/05/2021 20:09

I have been to the hairdressers! It was excellent. I then had a quick look in the shops, but couldn’t find anything I liked. It all seemed either very frumpy or very flammable. So I bought myself a new nail polish and have painted my toenails. It’s a sort of cherry red colour.

Spuddog seems a little better again, but I really do think I will call the vets tomorrow and see if they can suggest anything to help him on further. We’ve managed another little walk tonight, but it’s not much of a life for him at the moment, poor dog.

MissConductUS · 19/05/2021 20:09

I am aware of that, I simply couldn't spell it. Grin Besides, the newcomers probably assume I'm an ex-pat Brit, so I may have to go back to writing as an American.

Aren't prescriptions sent electronically by the NHS?

Aren't prescriptions sent electronically by the NHS?

Not automatically, but you can sign up with a community pharmacy (only hospital pharmacies doing inpatient and discharge meds are normally NHS) giving them delegated permission to data share with your surgery and request your prescriptions on your behalf. They then do all the legwork. Typing this has reminded me that the other pharmacy that I am signed up with for my repeat medication can also request this item for me. 🤦‍♀️ I only chose today’s pharmacy because my regular one is not one of the three nearby that my surgery will send hard copy scripts out to. So, two phone calls tomorrow. One to check the repeat script I requested is still at the surgery (so I don’t duplicate) and another to the chain that I’ve formally signed up with to request it via them. What a muddle!

This post surely meets the dull threshold?

MissConductUS · 19/05/2021 20:43

This post surely meets the dull threshold?

Certainly. Hard copy scripts were eliminated here about five years ago, partly to reduce prescription errors and forgeries and allow better tracking of controlled substance prescriptions. It's been a good thing. Doctors have terrible handwriting and pharmacies would reject them for the smallest clerical errors, which don't happen now. For example, having to both spell and give a numeric figure for the number of doses.

Miss Nat West is also a British bank (short for National Westminster). My neighbour's daughter works in our local branch.
Yesterday I accidentally had 3 lattes and was awake for half the night.

soddingkitten · 19/05/2021 20:51

Ah, hard copy prescriptions here are printed off by the GP onto special paper from their medical record system and only signed by hand. They have QR codes as well to prevent tampering. I am not a pharmacist or a doctor but I think methodone prescriptions are managed directly between the surgery and pharmacy and the patient often has to attend in person each day to take their methodone in front of the pharmacist. I’m not sure about other controlled drugs though.

Frazzledd · 19/05/2021 20:55

V unwelcome ants have ventured through my bay window, bought an ant stop bait thingy and rearranged the furniture....currently picking up zombified looking stragglers with wet wipes.

Felt itchy all day Sad

RhubarbFairy · 19/05/2021 20:55

I put the bins out earlier for our row of terraces (they're stored in an alley in between blocks of terraces). I lined then up with cardboard/plastic wheelie bins on one side of the alley gap in ascending numerical order, and rubbish bins on the other side in descending numerical order. I actually did it by accident initially but when I spotted it, I made sure to finish it that way. It was very pleasing to me.

We also have a huge stack of recycling in the house waiting for the bin to be emptied as we finished clearing the loft over the weekend so filled the bin.

soddingkitten · 19/05/2021 20:59

My other news today is exciting for any parent of teen boys. I heard DS2 vacuuming the living room again this morning, the second morning in a row. He likely got dried mud from his school shoes on the carpet and didn’t want to get in trouble.

RhubarbFairy · 19/05/2021 21:00

@MissConductUS

You've been mistaken for a Yank. Natwest is an American bank.

Am at the hospital waiting for the bloody discharge papers.

Not so @MissConductUS. NatWest is a British founded bank that then acquired The National Bank of North America in the 70s.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Westminster_Bank_USA

MissConductUS · 19/05/2021 21:02

Iwandered, the American NatWest is probably an affiliate of the British bank. Years ago I banked at Marine Midland, which was then acquired by HSBC, who then closed most of their retail branches. I'm now with a regional American bank, as the British banks keep pulling the rug out from under me.

I've been making phone calls to DD's uni to find out about how much her summer internship is going to pay towards her room and board on campus. At first, DD thought it would be all, now she is not so sure. Even if we have to pay it all it's not a huge amount, I would just like to know.

OP posts:
soddingkitten · 19/05/2021 21:09

HSBC acquired the Midland Bank in the UK.

MissConductUS · 19/05/2021 21:31

According to this

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marine_Midland_Bank

The Marine Midland bank I used to bank with was not related to Midland Bank in the UK, despite the name. Even though both were acquired by HSBC, which I guess was originally a Chinese bank.

Banking is generally quite boring, so perfect for this thread. I'm off to home, hoping the men are okay. Smile

I have just finished mopping the floor and cleaning the windows. This is because we’re having a surveyor here tomorrow and I’m worried he’ll quote us a lower value for the house if it’s not spotless. Please don’t kick me out if this is just too much excitement.

DoctorTwo · 19/05/2021 22:01

I bought a pair of slippers. They pinch my little toes.

RhubarbFairy · 19/05/2021 22:07

Oooh. I love discovering the meanings behind acronyms so thank you for this.

For my contribution I can tell you that ASDA is Associated Dairies and TESCO was a mash up of TE Stockwell (a partner in a firm) and the Co comes from the founders surname Cohen).

MerryGoRound this is part of the reason why we haven't had our house valued yet, although we really need to. I'm frantically trying to get it looking presentable but it's a period property old and rambling and will never look like a pristine show-home no matter how hard we try.

At least we've been decluttering like maniacs and the local Freegle site has done very well out of us. I've also found a charity that will come and collect, so two large boxes of books and CDs are going out on the doorstep tomorrow morning.
