sunbird Fabric fatigue!

Sunbird24 · 16/06/2021 21:51

I already managed to dye them pink at the weekend Blush

HildaTablet · 16/06/2021 22:30

Thanks for asking, MissC. Sadly I had to come to my mum's house to make some small initial steps towards dealing with her things. She died last year and it's very hard to come to terms with. On a practical level alone, Covid restrictions have meant that it's been extremely difficult just to travel.

However, I'm here and it's OK. And the drive was fine, nice weather all the way.

soddingkitten · 16/06/2021 22:58

DH cooked dinner tonight because I had a late meeting. He watched me make chilli a couple of weeks ago and realised how under-spiced his version was. He nailed it earlier: the heat and flavour was bang on. 👏

All my biros in my home office have run out of ink. I need to buy more.

Silkiecats · 17/06/2021 03:58

Flowers Hilda

Just watching Penguin Town, I remember going to that beach 20 odd years ago.

DH has been sleeping with Silkiecat when he couldn't sleep and now Silkiecat is used to it and going woaww very loudly when she wakes up at 2am and demanding DH with her. He has just gone down to be with her.

I have bought Silkiecat a mini mattress, blanket and pillow of her own as DH wants to move the single bed upstairs and out of the dining room. I bought rabbit some chew sticks.

The silkies have moulted and are now regrowing and DH says the white silkie is the most beautiful silkie in the world.

Champagneforeveryone · 17/06/2021 05:10

I'm many miles from Ascot. If they're involved in that then they're in trouble Grin

HelenaJustina · 17/06/2021 06:30

@Champagneforeveryone how was the performance?!

I had a productive day at work yesterday, fingers crossed for today as the to-do list is ridiculous. My problem is pinning down other people to make decisions, approve drafts etc, not actually doing the work!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/06/2021 07:00

I am about to phone my bank (technical service) because I have kicked myself out of my accounts. I can't even check the balance.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/06/2021 07:23

I am happy to say that my bank problem is solved - I can again see my money and pay my bills, yay.

Frownette · 17/06/2021 07:33

Prok at least you haven't lost your card like me! I have to call into branch today and keep cash on me until the new one arrives.

It's grey and cold here which is fab, I was fed up of feeling like I'm in a sauna.

Muddydoor · 17/06/2021 10:08

I’m in a very bad mood. School sent us a message saying fait accompli, you’re all happy that we close early on Friday so will do it forevermore. Now been sent a message titled consultation informing us the fait accompli message was actually a consultation which none of us responded to, so its a done deal. Gah!!

Champagneforeveryone · 17/06/2021 16:13

helena it was mostly incomprehensible, and there was one piece involving a pigs head and some incest. However all in all (incest aside) it was the most entertainment I've had in the past 18 months Grin

MissConductUS · 17/06/2021 16:24

Muddy, is this a state school? Here we have laws about how many hours and days of schooling have to be provided.

I have some mildly boring DS news. He's going to be a residence assistant again this fall, so we have to take him up to uni on 20/8 as he has to be there before most returning students. This will involve going up in two cars, as one will stay with him, then coming back in one. Two cars will also give us plenty of room for all of his belongings. I'm taking the 19th off as well to help him pack and organize.

His summer of sloth and idleness may also be at an end. He's been offered a remote internship with a biotechnology firm in Cambridge (the Massachusetts one) which will be part-time with flexible hours. It also pays rather well. The only potential problem is that they want it to continue in the fall, so he has to discuss it with his academic adviser before accepting.

It's a lovely spring day here.

I have a new favourite T-shirt. It's from Crew, bright white and the perfect cut for me.

DH has done the laundry and I now have a motley grey T-shirt. I'm usually very sanguine about these kind of things, but the thoughtlessness has left me seething Angry

MissConductUS · 17/06/2021 19:35

Champagne, what did he wash it with?

OP posts:
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/06/2021 19:53

One single off white sock in enough

MissConductUS · 17/06/2021 19:55

I don't do a separate washing cycle for whites, but I have almost nothing that is pure white. My Miele gets it all clean together.

OP posts:
Champagneforeveryone · 17/06/2021 20:03

I don't know miss, though we've had conversations in the past where I've explained that whites need to go in a white wash. In fact, we've had this conversation practically every week because I wear white shirts for work. I suspect he simply shovelled up all the odds and ends in the basket and bunged them in together.

I'm always suspicious that things like this are an attempt to make me say, "oh don't worry, I'll take care of the laundry" and therefore refuse to rise to the bait. Doesn't stop me wanting to throttle him with the iron cord though Hmm

Frownette · 17/06/2021 20:09

Oh dear, can you get a replacement?

sueelleker · 17/06/2021 20:15

@Frownette

Oh dear, can you get a replacement?
And make him pay for it. (And any other time he ruins something of yours)
Champagneforeveryone · 17/06/2021 20:22

@Frownette

Oh dear, can you get a replacement?
Yes, I'm certain I can and that would indeed be the more sensible and grown up option instead of sulking

A stray sock in a white wash I could understand, but chucking a white T-shirt in a dark wash and being perplexed when it gets ruined does get my goat (as the English say Wink)

MissConductUS · 17/06/2021 20:29

I do bed linens on a long, hot wash cycle but everything else goes in the Miele's quick wash, which is warm wash cold rinse. I'm glad none of us needs to wear white shirts.

We say "gets my goat" on this side of the pond too. Smile

HelenaJustina · 17/06/2021 20:39

@Champagneforeveryone how irritating! I would be quietly seething too... and then would purchase another almost immediately! Have you tried soaking it in vanish and re-washing?

mathanxiety · 17/06/2021 21:02

I took DD3 for her passport appointment at our local post office. She had way more documentation than she needed and the application was processed far quicker than anticipated.

While we were waiting for our number to come up, the post office woman was handling a query from a man whose passport had been lost somewhere between the State Department and his home address. The woman discussing the problem of the non-delivery of the passport was very matter-of-fact about the need to fill out the entire form again, provide photos and proof of ID, and - worse still - pay another passport processing and delivery fee.

This cavalier approach to handling of people's important business has us slightly worried, as the mail carrier tends to throw the mail willy nilly into the vestibule of the building instead of proceeding through a door he or she has a key for, and putting the mail in the individual mailboxes.
