I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Maybe too exciting for the thread, but I went to Mass today for the first time in over a year, now that I'm fully vaccinated. The church wasn't the pizza oven I thought it would be on this boiling weekend, and it was nice to see familiar faces.

I can only garden every second day at most, HelenaJustina, even though my 'garden' consists of a deck full of plants.

Squirrel26 · 06/06/2021 20:21

I am watching Our Yorkshire Farm, which I found out about from a thread on here where people seemed to have a Lot Of Opinions about the people who live on the Yorkshire Farm and their Life Choices.

My Opinion is that it's very relaxing watching people feeding sheep and cutting hay while I sit here on the sofa.

HelenaJustina · 06/06/2021 21:03

@mathanxiety welcome back! I think Mass was in my top three most missed things.

I dragged myself out to garden lightly this evening, mostly so I looked virtuous when DH brought DC2 back from swim training. @Champagneforeveryone I definitely need someone to do the ‘unskilled’ garden work and also all of the skilled garden work if only there was a handy teenager who loved locally glares at DC1

HelenaJustina · 06/06/2021 21:04

Loved locally? lived locally Blush

MissConductUS · 06/06/2021 22:42

I'm sure he or she loves locally too Helana. Grin

My church is reopening next Sunday for in person worship and I think I'll probably go.

It got up to 97F here today (about 35C I think).

Silkiecat saw DH sitting at piano about to play it so she jumped on him for a cuddle. Then she saw he was about to start playing so she jumped on piano stretched herself out and went to sleep there. Silkiecat does not come second to a piano.

Frownette · 07/06/2021 06:19

silkie well it's asserting herself, innit.

Like our lovely Helena coming clean. Thank you for sharing. We're getting into bitter cat wars here. I only have 4 cats in the neighbourhood who like me. My neighbour has 7. I feel thwarted and might need to douse myself in catnip.

We've been bickering all morning just about to go back to it

Frownette · 07/06/2021 06:28

I wonder if there is a catnip perfume...I'm determined to win this

Silkiecats · 07/06/2021 07:04

Silkiecat has been ordering DH around throughout the night, first call was around 1am, she was sat by a full food bowl and didn't know what her problem was but it was good to have staff. Then 2am she didn't want to go to sleep alone so dh went with her until asleep? 4am she woke up and was alone so off dh went again. She won't leave the one room now.

Sunbird24 · 07/06/2021 07:38

@Frownette there is, it’s called catnip! 😂 put a bit in your pocket or just rub it on your fingers…

@HelenaJustina I have a neighbour who helps me with my garden as I just can’t keep on top of it on my own. I do of course pay him but it makes life so much easier. Probably a little harder to justify though when there are other people in your household who could help but don’t!

@Silkiecats hooray for the end to itchiness! Fingers crossed your body adjusts to the antihistamine so you don’t have to choose between being itchy or being awake!

Notthissticky · 07/06/2021 13:14

Apologies for going MIA!!! DS2 and I have returned from the forrin, where he was finally introduced to my family at the ripe old age of 4 months. He was cuddled by Grandma and spun round on Grandad's revolving arm chair. We are on day 2 of quarantine and I'm bored... DS1 is still angry, it's becoming a permanent state of affairs I fear... DS2 has 3 teeth and another 3 on the way.

I've just missed a call from track and trace, uh oh...

Spudlet · 07/06/2021 14:34

Oh nooooooo @Notthissticky - fingers crossed for you 😬

I have spent all morning wrestling with Virgin Money Giving to get my marathon fundraising page set up. I decided to split my sponsorship between two charities, the hospice that cared for DGF and the National Autistic Society for DS. But that meant I needed a header image for the page with both of them in it, and I had a devil of a time finding one, I was wading through the online archive for ages. Then the site kept rotating pictures at random and wouldn’t rotate them back. Then I made myself cry writing the blurb. But it’s all done now and looking pretty good, and I have my first few sponsors as well 😊

Other than that, little to report. I am plagued with insect bites from yesterday’s run which is annoying. I shall make a foray into the supermarket tonight after collecting the click and collect with DS, and get some repellant and maybe some bite cream.

Silkiecats · 07/06/2021 15:11

Just heard DH on the phone saying I am sorry I cannot deal with this, only my wife is able to deal with this. Confused I asked him and he said it was house insurance.

The vet is supposed to be calling for the rabbits vaccine but I think he has forgotten. I said to dh and he said he wants to wait until dd is home as she is excellent at catching rabbits.

91F here yesterday and today is looking much the same. Hope you're OK!
ZZTopGuitarSolo · 07/06/2021 15:16

The heat has arrived here. We turned on the AC this morning, having had it on last night in bedrooms. We have window AC units and they're not very effective in the kitchen thanks to the apartment layout, and because the kitchen window is too far from an outlet to make a window unit a safe proposition, I can't put one there. I relay cooled air in with a big fan, and luckily I have an Instant Pot, which saved dinner all last summer, and hopefully will make life livable this summer too.

Similar in our house. When it gets hot everyone hides in their cool bedrooms, and we weep in the kitchen while trying to cook Grin

MissConductUS · 07/06/2021 15:43

Welcome back, @Notthissticky, it's always hard on the first dc when the second arrives.

Spudlet, well done on your fundraising pages. BTW, I'm happy to share the Death by Chocolate brownies recipe with you but I need your email address to send it to.

ZZ, I was worried for my DD at uni, but it turns out that she's in a dorm for the summer that has central AC. We have central AC at home, when it feels like working. Smile We have those odd casement type windows that swing out so window AC aren't really an option for us.

DD is about to start mission catch wabbit. Wabbit is easy to catch it just requires food.

Silkiecats · 07/06/2021 17:21

Wabbit has been caught and vaccinated and back home. Now its mission cat's renal diet food, Silkiecat thinks the vet is right, she does need extra food. And we are getting a Chinese, I just went on the Chinese's website and it has the latest reviews, about half of them are from us Blush

Squirrel26 · 07/06/2021 19:25

I'm still not over my younger sibling's arrival. Grin

Think I will have a biscuit and do some of my jigsaw puzzle.

HelenaJustina · 07/06/2021 19:54

I’ve made dinner but DH is on the parent rota for scouts tonight so feel I should wait for him to come home at 9pm before I eat it (definitely dull enough for this thread!)

Champagneforeveryone · 07/06/2021 21:03

@Squirrel26

I'm still not over my younger sibling's arrival. Grin

Think I will have a biscuit and do some of my jigsaw puzzle.

I am 3 1/2 yrs older than my sibling, and have zero recollection of being pre-warned of his arrival, though I can't imagine even my parents just didn't think to mention it.

I still feel aggrieved by the betrayal almost 40 years later

MissConductUS · 07/06/2021 22:49

This happens with our feline overlords too. An introduction of a new cat can lead to years of drama, resentment and hurt feelings.

OP posts:
theDudesmummy · 08/06/2021 11:37

All this talk of cats makes me really miss my beautiful grumpy old cat. She was with me for 17 years through thick and thin, divorce, remarriage, allsorts. Never knowingly friendly to anyone. I really loved her. She's been gone quite a few years now. I will not get another cat because my lifetstyle going forwards would not be fair on a cat (will be away from main home pretty much the whole summer every year).

Sunbird24 · 08/06/2021 15:31

I just spent £65 on plants as most of the things that were in my front garden appear to have been killed off by the April frosts. They’re all currently sitting in the shade with their feet in water while I wait for outside to cool down. This is my favourite, a beautiful black velvet petunia. Everything else has pink/pink & white flowers so it will stand out nicely.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/06/2021 18:21

I need to buy Tagetes (known here as Stinkmöppkes) to keep the tomatoes company.
You can leave a lot of money in garden shops.
