Marigolds to us @Prokupatuscrakedatus!

MissConductUS · 08/06/2021 18:32

Sunbird, that petunia looks very lush and healthy. I've never seen a black one before.

@sunbird24 - Marigold is a nicer name for them, ours not so much. The name refers to the smell.

Champagneforeveryone · 08/06/2021 20:49

I left my phone at home this morning.

I had genuinely no idea how much I use my phone for non phoning purposes. I do get a screen time notification, but today has been a revelation about the number of things I use my phone for which are nothing to do with phoning people Blush

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 08/06/2021 21:38

Resting after having DGS over Sunday night and Monday. We went to our local petting farm, where he had a lovely time exhausting and terrifying us.

Notthissticky · 08/06/2021 22:47

Not sure if my posts inspired the ones about still not being over a younger sibling's arrival, but this is my fear. My younger sister and I never got on as children and only really developed a bond when we both had children ourselves. I really do not want this for our boys and I definitely do not want DS1 to feel as insecure as I did Sad

Anyway! Day 3 of quarantine and it's getting harder not to raid the food cupboards and/ or resort to excessive caffeine consumption! My lovely lovely neighbour left a still warm banana cake on our door step this morning! I assembled the baby bouncy seat and discovered it has three tilt settings. DS1 was in that seat daily for about 6 months and I never knew😆 I hung the laundry up outside for the first time this year and since we moved here. I've left it out to be darked on and so the spiders can do their thing! I also bought a massive UPF50+ sun shade for the garden after DS2 got sunburnt in the shade in my parents' garden in tropical northern Europe 🤦🏼‍♀️ Dinner, bath and bed for DS1 was comparatively painless and tomorrow morning we're switching the routine around in the hope that he and DH can get out of the house without DS having a tantrum/ running round the house naked/ needing to be extracted from under the dining table/ waking DS2 up. I shall report back how it goes...

Notthissticky · 08/06/2021 22:53

DS was playing on his slide after nursery and spotted a tiny spider on it. After a few seconds he then went "Eeeeeeh, a bit scaring!" rather unconvincingly and I had to go and move it for him. This is a very new development, as last week we found a massive dead spider and he kept banging on about the cat standing on it (she didn't, which is how we realised it was dead). I wonder which of the nursery staff is scaredGrin

mathanxiety · 09/06/2021 02:41

The stifling heat continues. We were promised thunderstorms but had nothing but blue sky and the sun beating down, with humidity making it feel a lot hotter.

I need to have my brakes looked at. Hoping to drop the car off on Thursday if I can get away from work early enough, and back by Saturday.

New neighbours have moved in upstairs. The LL has re-measured the parking spots to squeeze in an extra car. We're all far more tightly packed, and that's ok up to a point - until it snows.
I feel a little like a cat when another feline arrives.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/06/2021 06:06

Sunny and lovely here !
I can almost see my plants growing.

SimonJT · 09/06/2021 06:13

For the first time ever my son has slept through the night, well, he has remained in his bedroom and I didn’t hear him moving around in the night. He’s almost 6, please don’t let this be a fluke.

HelenaJustina · 09/06/2021 06:31

@SimonJT what a breakthrough!

I set my alarm and went for a run at 5.40am while it is lovely and cool.

Spudlet · 09/06/2021 08:04

Some lovely news here!
@SimonJT Every digit here crossed for you getting more unbroken nights 🤞🤞🤞

@Notthissticky Glad your quarantine isn’t too bad - is it just you that’s been done as a contact, then? DH got similarly done just before Christmas. He never came down with anything though. 🤞 here for you also!

@Prokupatuscrakedatus I had to Google that - the common name for them, at least in the UK, would be marigolds. I love Stinkmöppkes though Grin

Sports massage for me today, then I have to take Spuddog to the vets for his annual jabs. My hay fever has been awful the last few days and now I have a cough, which I’m pretty sure is related but I have a lateral flow test cooking as I type. I did one on Monday and that was negative, so fairly sure this one will be ok too. 🤞

Spudlet · 09/06/2021 08:23

Negative! 👍

Champagneforeveryone · 09/06/2021 12:44

I just had a kiwi fruit yoghurt. I remain undecided on it so far.

Sunbird24 · 09/06/2021 12:54

I just had a haircut for the first time in 16 months and now have a wavy bob! Have to keep swishing my hair for the novelty of it ✂️✂️

Squirrel26 · 09/06/2021 13:31

I have to admit that my mum did once tell me (when I was grown up!) that she’d regretted having a second child for a while, because I was so jealous. On the other hand, my brother and I get on well now, and I really don’t remember being THAT awful about it. Blush Also, I suspect it was good for me to get over myself and realise I wasn’t the centre of everything; as an adult I am a delight to be around. Grin

MissConductUS · 09/06/2021 14:14

Welcome, @DisgraceToTheYChromosome and @SimonJT, and thanks for sharing your offspring related news. Simon, that's particularly good news. When he's a teenager it will take a crane to get him out of bed.

Thinking about the whole first and second sibling thing, it wasn't really an issue with my two. Perhaps the fact that they were only 22 months apart helped.

Spudlet, alergies can indeed give you a cough. Mine are awful now as well, and I'm taking three different medications for them, twice a day.

I spoke with the surgical scheduling person yesterday. It's not final, but she has target the 8th of July for my surgery, which is a Thursday. She said that she should have final confirmation for me today. Then I have to find someone to do a preop physical for me as I'm going under general anesthesia. I was offered the option of having it done with a spinal block but since I could easily be on the table for an hour or more I don't want to be awake for the whole thing. I'm sure my ortho is pleased as patients who are completely under are much less bother.

Most people don't realize what a boon general anesthesia is. There was a TV show that aired here as London Hospital (I think it was called Casualty 1906 on your side of the pond) that portrayed what surgery was like without it and with the very early use of it.

We watched that @MissConductUS - my DJ trained as a nurse at the Royal London (quite a while after 1906, just to be clear) so we watched it together.

Not having a great day here. Took Spuddog to the vets for a checkup and jabs, and it turns out his vestibular disease does have an underlying cause after all, and it’s not good news. She said we could refer him for tests and perhaps chemo but he’s 14... you have to ask yourself who you’d be doing it for, at that age.

Right now he is still happy and pain free, so we’re taking it one day at a time and we’ll just see how we go. It’s really shit though. My poor old Spuddog.

Spudlet · 09/06/2021 14:48

DM, not DJ 🙄

Handoverthechocollate · 09/06/2021 14:52

My lovely 12 year old bunny has eaten lots of veg today! He's had celery, greens, hay, chicory and cucumber 🥒 yum!

Champagneforeveryone · 09/06/2021 14:58

Oh spudlet I'm so sorry to hear that Sad

As you may recall we lost DDog1 in January, we were also offered options which all seemed utterly unsuitable due to his age. Still doesn't make it easy though Flowers

Sunbird24 · 09/06/2021 15:19

Ahh, poor Spuddog! I hope he remains happy and pain free for as long as possible. Daffodil

Spudlet · 09/06/2021 15:32

Thank you both. Right now he’s perky and chipper, so we’re taking things as they come. One day at a time.

I’ve told DS that Spuddog is quite poorly, but I haven’t told him any more yet. I don’t know how much he would understand anyway, at his age. Not sure how we’ll address it with him when the time comes. He’s known Spuddog all his life, so it will be a massive change for him.

MissConductUS · 09/06/2021 16:34

I'm so sorry to hear about Spuddog. He may have a fair amount of good quality time left, so the watchful waiting is the best course here.

Cancer is so bloody hard. What most people don't realize is that it's fundamental to our biology. That's what makes it so common and hard to treat. This article does a really good job of explaining it.

Why Cancer Isn’t Going Anywhere - It’s been with us since the origins of multicellularity. It’s part of who we are.

Sad news, @Spudlet Flowers

Hoping you and Spuddog will have some happy days yet.
