We had a small street party (for no reason other than the VE Day one we had last year was good fun) it wasn’t really a party more a loose gathering. It was due to finish at 6, but I dragged DC home at 9.15pm. Now it’s gone dark I can hear lots of clinking of glass into recycling bins!

mathanxiety · 30/05/2021 22:24

We had that cold, wet weather before you did, MissC. Today is much nicer.

I drove home after dropping DD4 off to a cat sitting job yesterday, and ended up taking ages as my route took me past the high school, which had its very chilly outdoors 2021 graduation in the late afternoon, with the graduates and their families all leaving the stadium just as I tried to drive past. They all looked frozen.

Poor things!

DD is back in Chicago today and is currently playing softball with her friends. This makes me so happy.

The lobsters and sweet corn were fabulous and we had a nice zoom call with DD and MIL.

It's a lot of clean up when you steam lobsters at home.

Dh mowed the lawn. Silkiecat keeps calling him for cuddles but won't come upstairs.

Spudlet · 31/05/2021 08:45

I’ve managed to get sunburn, but only on one arm. I was wearing sun cream, but I wonder if I forgot to do that arm completely? As the other one and everywhere else is fine ConfusedBlush

Tbh, yesterday afternoon was quite stressful as DM insisted on having everyone over for a big late lunch in the garden, then it was 4pm by the time it was ready so everyone was hungry. DM can be very passive-aggressive, especially when she hasn’t eaten, so it all got a bit snappy. So it wouldn’t amaze me if I’d managed to miss an arm with the suncream. It’s very annoying though.

Been for a longer run than usual by utilising bribery. I’ve run into the nearby Small Town and then rung DH to come and collect me and my mocha purchased from the gorgeous independent chocolaterie

theDudesmummy · 31/05/2021 19:03

I got a lot of midge bites last night but nowhere near as bad as it could have been without the midge killing machine, which was thick with inches of them this morning.

Silkiecats · 31/05/2021 19:55

Silkiecat howled on realising DH was not in the house. I told her he was in the garden and DD showed her the way to the garden, basically go through the kitchen. Silkiecat refused to go in the garden but is at least quiet now as she knows where DH is.

Silkiecat is very happy that DS keeps leaving half eaten meals on top of the piano for Silkiecat to finish, that is why Silkiecat has been playing the piano so much.

DoctorTwo · 31/05/2021 22:02

@Silkiecats the more you post about silkiecat the more I love her. Gorgeous creature.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 31/05/2021 22:29

A beautiful sunny day here - that's why I spent all of it at work (deadline).

mathanxiety · 31/05/2021 22:53

I did a slow roasted shoulder of pork yesterday. It will feed us until Tuesday. I found an overlooked pound of spuds in the pantry to go with it today.

Silkiecats · 31/05/2021 23:00

Silkiecat says you are very intelligent Doctor2.

Silkiecats · 01/06/2021 05:50

A very puffed up fluffy blackbird is sitting on our thatched roof and singing, apparently they fluffy themselves up to keep warm.

HelenaJustina · 01/06/2021 06:20

@mathanxiety thank you! Your shoulder of pork had reminded me to put the gammon in the slow cooker for DC dinner...

Silkiecats · 01/06/2021 06:49

I am trying to look out the window but the sun is so bright it is dazzling me

Silkiecats · 01/06/2021 07:10

Dhs alarm went off and he said I will stay in bed another 30 mins. I said Silkiecat will have something to say about that but I think its OK Silkiecat is still asleep. Then Silkiecat meowed really loudly.

MissConductUS · 01/06/2021 13:56

Happy Tuesday, lovely people of the thread. I realized when I was getting ready for bed last night that I'd gone the whole day without posting once on MN.

I'm working from home this morning, then DH and I have an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon, for his two week follow up and for me to discuss and likely schedule my surgery. I have a list of questions for him.

It's a bit warmer today and DS is meeting up with some of his mates from high school today to play basketball and video games.

thedudes, we don't get midges here, thank goodness, just mosquitos.

Yes! Apparently you can boil up the shells to make stock, but I just tie them up in a bag very tight to minimise the smell, and chuck em.
Spudlet · 01/06/2021 14:29

My sunburn has faded to one rather sore strip at the very top of my arm. I have bought more suncream.

I have also started on the tittivating of DS’s new bike. DH and I both agreed that it only needed one new brake cable, so that’s all I bought at Halfords. It transpires however that I was looking at the front cable and DH was looking at the back GrinGrin Happily
I do have a spare in the toolbox, so this is not a problem - I only got a second new one as the cable housing also needed replacing and it was easier to buy a cable and housing set in one. Nice Neighbour has lent me some cable cutters, so hopefully I will get this cracked today or tomorrow!

Sunbird24 · 01/06/2021 14:40

My nose and forehead are peeling.

The videoconference I had booked for this morning with my forrin colleagues (that I’ve been trying to have since October) didn’t happen again because of equipment failure at our end.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 01/06/2021 14:54

I'm rebuilding my old iMac today.

Apple keeps taunting me with pictures and videos of the beautiful new iMac but I'm resisting and telling myself that the old one is just fine.

MissConductUS · 01/06/2021 15:15

The new iMac got a rave review in the WSJ recently. How are you rebuilding the old one, ZZ?

I never bothered to use the lobster shells for stock. The only recipe I know that calls for it is lobster bisque and there's never any leftover lobster meat for that. Grin

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 01/06/2021 16:36

The old iMac was unused for ages so it got the point where it just refused to start up. I've used the Disk Utility to reinstall the OS, and I've got a Time Machine backup that I could use to restore all the media, but I don't think I'll bother - it was mostly photos and videos, and I've moved them all elsewhere.

I mainly keep it ready to use for work if my MacBook Pro dies. I live in terror of that happening. I keep everything work-related in Dropbox, but I still need access to a fairly powerful Mac every day.

Spudlet · 01/06/2021 19:23

I have replaced both DS’s brake cables. I am very proud of myself indeed, having never done it before. I have also got three loads of washing dried on the line, collected the supermarket shop, taken DS to the woods for a bike ride, and baked some brownies for the village cake sale tomorrow. And run 4 miles before breakfast. I am officially pooped Grin
