My family calls this holiday Spring bank ( holiday) except for my mum (90) who still calls it Whit week (whitsuntide) and remembers fondly that everyone always had a new item of clothing for Whit Sunday, however poor they wete, even if it was only socks or something.

soddingkitten · 27/05/2021 21:36

I spent the last 2 evenings doing holiday ironing only for the weather to suddenly cheer up, so I spent the last hour ironing short-sleeved tops. I told DH last week I was going to chuck it all in the suitcase unironed and do it when we got there, but baulked at the last minute. I am demob happy now but I hate the mad rush at work and home to get everything done.

I popped round to see Lovely Neighbour earlier. She said she will keep an eye out for Sodding whilst we are away. He goes in and out of her house at will looking for Shyboy and she found him sleeping on her stairs today, so he will probably spend more time visiting over the next week. I’m glad she’s grown to love him after their rocky start and that he will have some company while we are away.

Pusscat soldier 🐈

Not pusscar 🚗

Stupid autocorrect (though what’s a pusscar)

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/05/2021 21:59

A pusscar is a car you can puss, of course Grin

OhWhyNot · 27/05/2021 22:03

You learn something everyday on MN Grin

HelenaJustina · 27/05/2021 22:12

One more day to go, one more day to go-oh, one more day to go, one more day to gooooo! Can you tell I’m looking forward to the half term break?

SpeedofaSloth · 27/05/2021 22:38

We have a missing guppy. I am looking suspiciously at his tankmates. They all live peaceably until one dies and if you don't spot it very quickly, the others eat their friend. Gruesome, but I do love them oh so much.

One for the cat owners on the thread: www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0168159121001258?dgcid=coauthor

soddingkitten · 27/05/2021 23:00

@SpeedofaSloth I wasn’t very good at keeping my tropical fish alive, but guppies were my favourite.

Notthissticky · 27/05/2021 23:27

Second coat applied to the blackboard wall. Unfortunately I think it might need a third... DS1 has no clue what it's for though, so I'm not under duress from an impatient toddler😅

Did a whole load of household chores. Just need to pack my bag for tomorrow's KIT day

theDudesmummy · 27/05/2021 23:53

In Ireland the bank holiday is next weekend not this.

Silkiecats · 28/05/2021 04:26

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/05/2021 07:26

Good morning
It's my day off work and I will try and buy some things without getting rained on.

Champagneforeveryone · 28/05/2021 09:31

Overcast but dry here, though forecast is looking good for the next few days.

notthissticky I'm definitely not a teacher (though I'm impressed to hear lots of swearing goes on in staff rooms!) I'm a police dispatcher so not on the front line thankfully.

Spudlet · 28/05/2021 09:41

Psyching myself up to give Spuddog a haircut. It’s going to be warm here next week, he’s very fluffy, and at his age the heat is not his friend so it needs to be done. It’s just such a faffy job!

Sent DS to school in shorts today, hail, thunder and lightning incoming no doubt Grin He has been scuffing the toes of his school shoes along the tarmac to stop on his bike, as opposed to using the brakes, so at this rate he’ll soon he wearing open toed sandals as well 🙈 I am NOT buying him new school shoes with just a few weeks of the school year left...!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/05/2021 13:16

Back from my shopping spree only slightly damp.

😂 Couldn't do this job without swearing! You should hear the head teacher in staff briefingsBlush

It's quiet at work today, likely because of the long weekend. DS went to a posh supermarket we like but is a bit of a distance away yesterday.

www.wegmans.com/

The stores are designed like European food markets with stations for buying food to eat in and areas for meat, dairy, etc. but not a lot of isles. It's a treat to shop there. He got a bit lost on the way there but did make it home eventually. Memorial day weekend is the unofficial start of summer here, so lots of people we shopping for cookouts and parties.

Champagne, police dispatcher must be a very interesting job!

Spud dog is clipped and looking smart. DS and I took the car through the car wash after school. DS was really excited, we watched lots of cars go through before us, talked about what would happen, and then he burst into tears when we were actually in there, bless him. All a bit too scary for him. We do have a shiny car now though and he’s over it.

bloodywhitecat · 28/05/2021 18:13

@MissConductUS We have been asked by social services if we can take another fosterling and we have said yes so we are waiting to see what happens, we may (or may not) become four next week.

MissConductUS · 28/05/2021 18:22

Spud, I can see how your son would find the car wash scary. It's loud, things are hitting the sides of the car, water is spraying everywhere.

I am somewhat disappointed with my subscription to the PBS Masterpiece video library on Amazon Prime. Many of the series that looked interesting are in languages I don't speak with English subtitles. I really can't be bothered with subtitles, especially while I'm on the stationary bike. Britbox is looking better all the time.

Asked DS what he wanted for dinner and he said fish and chips then quickly I don't mind really though. So we are getting fish, chips and beans.

I feel hot at the moment think its as we still have the fleece sheets and winter duvets and the weather is finally a bit warmer here. Between 20C and 23C all week and sun for half term following a week of about 13C-15C and rain every day.

Booked a boat trip round the Norfolk broads before our canoeing with otters there. Happy half term for all those with children at school.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/05/2021 19:01

My problem with Amazon Prime is that they insist on giving me the synchronized version only.
