It is still cold and wet here. DB in Hamburg actually is under a hurricane (Orkan) warning.
I spent another day working long hours. My 'time account' fills nicely.

Squirrel26 · 26/05/2021 21:18

The dog is very angry because a Labrador just walked by. He hates Labradors for no particular reason that I know of, but he met a German Shepherd earlier who he took a real liking to.

I never realised dogs were so opinionated until I got one.

DoctorTwo · 26/05/2021 21:21

I had my first dose of Covid jab yesterday, felt great all day until bedtime when I started to feel a bit off. This morning all my joints ached and my head felt like a combination of being caught in the middle of Fury/Joshua and the hangover from hell. Luckily I don't have a Dressing Gown Of Doom.

Spudlet · 26/05/2021 21:32

Flakey lady got back to me and we have the bike! It needs a little tlc, but nothing we can’t handle. It’s also ever so slightly big for DS at the moment but he’ll grow into it in no time, I suspect - we can keep his old one until then.

I also cleared out my makeup and jewellery drawers, chucked out loads of old stuff and got a big bag of charity shop donations ready to go. So DS and I dropped them all off, and I got a new dress - total bargain. Just need the weather to warm up a bit so I can wear it now 🥶

Notthissticky · 26/05/2021 22:07

Contrary to my earlier promises not to get carried away with my redecorating plans, I started today. The first coat of chalkboard paint has been applied and it's black no shit Sherlock. I'll be applying the second coat tomorrow (post-immunisations grizzly baby permitting) and then it should be good to go for the weekend! Can't wait to see DS1's reaction when he finds out he's allowed to draw on the wall😆

Commiserations. Which jab did you have? Anecdotally I've heard more people having side effects with AZ than with Pfizer, but I'm assuming you had Pfizer (if you're in the UK). I also heard you can have a stronger reaction if you have previously had COVID.
ZZTopGuitarSolo · 27/05/2021 00:59

Your peonies are way ahead of mine MissC. It hit 89F here today but cooling down tomorrow. It's suddenly started pouring here and it's wonderful

@Silkiecats

Silkiecat is not kind with catsitters, she often hisses at them and leaves them bleeding as she is cross they are on her territory.

The last ordinary cattery DH put her in she got quite ill and needed emergency vets and I think now she's older she needs somewhere they pay more attention. Also she has very high standards and requirements, the form is about 10 pages of likes and dislikes to fill in and they get a choice of 6 home made meals 3 times a day like fresh fish. She gets a room to herself with a window and lots of soft things in it and a climbing area and a sleep area. She was quite happy there last year and most important healthy at the end of it.

Blimey-with those facilities it sounds as if it would cost more than your own holiday!

Our first spaniel had an irrational dislike of black/mostly black dogs. He was usually the most laid-back dog ever, but would cross a whole field to tell a black dog he didn't like it. We'd had him all his life, so I don't know where it came from.
Squirrel26 · 27/05/2021 09:51

Mine ESPECIALLY dislikes black Labradors. Hmm I’ve heard that dogs find black dogs harder to ‘read’ because their facial features aren’t as obvious, and that makes them anxious about them. I don’t know if that’s true though or if my dog is just an idiot.

Silkiecats · 27/05/2021 09:59

Sue We did go away once in Jan for 2 nights when the pets needed to be booked in for 3 and our hotel bill was less than the pets one as we go a great deal on the room. This kept DS laughing for ages and he also was keen to go to the cat hotel himself for a night.

I'm in training hell. If I hear the phrase "effing and jeffing" once more, I may not be responsible for my actions.

DH's new £140 boots have arrived. Except they're not DH's £140 boots, but a pair of knock off Chinese trainers in a size 12, they probably cost £15 max. Amazon are usually really good about returns, but the disparity between the two is so great it looks like a proper scam.

Deathraystare · 27/05/2021 16:17

@DoctorTwo

But you need a dressing gown of doom! However have you managed without one? You need not go to the extremes my dad did - He had to wear a scarf or cravat as well and a small bottle of whisky in his pocket. He LOVED manflu!!!

Deathraystare · 27/05/2021 16:26

Well after being given water tablets I am now able to walk about without sounding like a chuff-chuff train! I can walk without having to stop and catch my breath! Being told to weigh myself EVERYDAY means I am being (slightly) good - apart from the jaffa cake incident - Tescos are selling cherry ones and blackcurrant ones. I bought one of each for one of the porters and decided to buy the blackcurrant ones for me! I really did not think I would eat them all at one go (who am I fucking kidding here!!!). I have only been weighing since Monday but have been losing 1-2lb a day but today stayed the same (thanks Jaffa cakes!) but at least it was not a gain!!!

theDudesmummy · 27/05/2021 16:42

It is my DS's twelfth birthday on Sunday, and his class is having a party tomorrow. I have just picked up a lovely cake from town with a picture on of him on the pony.

Champagne, can you translate "effing and jeffing" and explain why it was mentioned so frequently in your training, please?

Amazon is really good about returns. I've always been able to do them on the website. And they have an ongoing problem with counterfeit and fraudulent merchandise. Did it ship from Amazon or a third-party seller?

ZZ, your peonies look very healthy and will likely bloom very soon.

DH went to work. Around lunchtime Silkiecat realised DH was missing and started calling for him. I explained he was back for lunch and she was OK. Then he came back, got told off by Silkiecat for leaving her selfishly, they had a big cuddle and food and Silkiecat went back to sleep and DH back to work.

DD and DS are here and have had a terrible day of PHSE at school but have survived.

Champagneforeveryone · 27/05/2021 17:27

Ooh yes miss, another one for your phrase book Smile

It is a phrase that basically describes swearing and general mouthing off.

For training it was concerned with who the "effing and jeffing" was aimed at (there's a lot of it in my line of work!) and what was said. This would determine what if any offence would be recorded under the Public Order Act. It was fascinating Wink

DoctorTwo · 27/05/2021 17:44

@Notthissticky I didn't think to ask, but looking at the paperwork I had the Astra Zeneca variant and thought I'd escape side effects. Thankfully I feel better now. :o

@Deathraystare your dad sounds a hoot! I'm on board with the whisky (Jameson for me, thanks), not sure about the cravat (originally from Croatia, I believe).

@MissConductUS 'Effing and Jeffing' and 'effing and blinding' are polite ways of saying fuck.

Notthissticky · 27/05/2021 18:05

DS2 is not having a good day. He is dealing with a triple whammy of jabs (he's not good with them), two teeth coming through and a prolonged absence of💩. TBH, this would piss me off too and I'm 36 years old, not 17 weeks. Poor monkeySad

Meanwhile DS1 is mooching round the house trailing a phone charging cable declaring "this snake".

Notthissticky · 27/05/2021 18:10

@DoctorTwo surely it's a Britsplain, not a man's plain? And an explanation was requested so I don't think it would've been mansplaining anywaySmile Sorry to hear you're struggling with side effects, I'm surprised you were given AZ though!

@Champagneforeveryone at first I thought you must be a teacher, but after your second post I'm not sure. We swear a lot and I wish we could declare certain kids to be committing public order offences, but I'm assuming you're a police officer or similar.

MissConductUS · 27/05/2021 18:17

Thanks for the explanation of the phrase. I will add it to my Brit lexicon. I still have not heard from the Biden administration about my appointment to the Court of St. James. They must be very busy.

Doctor, I'm glad you're feeling better. All of the vaccines have similar side effects as it is your immune system responding to what appears to be an infection.

We had a very loud thunderstorm come through last night but today is lovely. I'm really looking forward to the three day weekend. Do you all have Memorial Day on Monday?

OP posts:
Spudlet · 27/05/2021 18:21

We don’t have Memorial Day, but it is the late May Bank Holiday on Monday so we still have a day off (well, most people anyway). I never realised Memorial Day was at the same time.

We are going to see my family this weekend as my Grandma turns 93! In honour of this DS and I have hoovered the car out and given the inside a really good clean. Tomorrow after school we are taking a special trip to the car wash, and to buy a pizza for dinner as we can eat that quickly then get straight off. I have also fitted the dog guard and made a boot liner from an old picnic blanket, so Spuddog can travel in style. And then I did some weeding in the front garden, which is definitely a wild garden... I am now a bit pooped 😴

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/05/2021 20:00

Memorial day would be Volkstrauertag (People's Day of Mourning) which is in November. In May we have 'Tag der Befreiung' - Liberation Day.

The physiotherapist today concentrated on 'mobilising the scar tissue', which was quite astonishingly painful, but I can already feel results. So all fine.

The little music pup on the ground floor has reopened. Lots of young people sitting outside, drinking and talking - mostly in Italian. Two houses down I hear Russian with accordeon music. I missed it all so much.
The weather is still mostly shit (I got soaked on my way to and from physio. I bought an umbrella and - of course - it stopped.)

OhWhyNot · 27/05/2021 20:30

It’s most definitely a summer duvet night tonight Grin at last it feels like summer is on it’s way

I may even get out my flipfops for the weekend

Pusscar soldier and I lounging on my bed listening to our favourite podcast Crime Junkie we can’t get enough Smile
