@Notthissticky It’s a challenge for sure! Our house would have been a three bedroom place originally with no upstairs bathroom as it was built before such things were common. The previous owners chose to covert a bedroom into a bathroom, but did the one directly above the downstairs loo which probably made it a lot easier but meant that the second largest bedroom was lost rather than the box room. So we have a massive bathroom but DS is in a shoebox. So I tend to dry washing in the bathroom at the moment.

At some future date our plan is to swap those two rooms, so we get a smaller bathroom but DS gets a half-decent sized room. Ideally we want to extend and get a third bedroom back, but not sure when that will happen. We don’t think the loft is one that could be easily converted, unfortunately, or we’d do that. It’s all a bit challenging.

highheeledhattie · 25/05/2021 19:41

I bought some gel pens and one doesn't work. I don't even use gel pens.

soddingkitten · 25/05/2021 19:45

I had a mint Club with my lunch today. I buy them for my boys’ packed lunches but I had forgotten how much I like them.

SpeedofaSloth · 25/05/2021 19:52

I used a fountain pen today. It makes to-do lists much posher.

Champagneforeveryone · 25/05/2021 20:15

spudlet IKEA has been our saviour with our crickety shaped cottage with its skinny doors and random chimney breasts. Without their range of sizes and flat packs we would have ended up having furniture custom made Confused

We have had a family sort out of our clothes. We have not one holey sock or faded T-shirt between us - truth be told we actually have very few clothes at all now, but they are at least ones we would be happy to be hit by a bus in.

On the plus side, I have inherited a rather splendid set of base layers and a couple of technical T-shirt's that DS has grown out of. I deliberately bought high quality, neutral items in preparation for this day Grin

MissConductUS · 25/05/2021 20:17

Welcome, @highheeledhattie, and thanks for sharing your calligraphy news. Your disappointment that one gel pen was defective must surely be softened by the fact that you don't use them.

Sodding, as I love mint and chocolate together, your news has left me a touch jealous happy for you.

I personally favor a rolling ball pen (Pilot makes the best, IMO) but have such awful handwriting I often wonder if I had a very minor stroke some years ago.

A colleague told me that her husband is having hip replacement surgery next week. I clued her in on some of the clever gadgets that might be helpful. He was diagnosed as needing it last summer but put it off due to covid.

evening all.
a friend of mine is moving on Friday and I picked up her plants to look after her plants until she gets back in a few weeks to take them.
they are lined up under the kitchen window like a garden sale.

at the risk of being too exciting I'll share that the plants gave me a freight when later I looked out the window and saw some green leaves wildly moving under the window..I forgot about them and thought maybe a broken tree brunch got swept in.
I predict they will scare me again at night. 😁

Silkiecats · 25/05/2021 22:52

DD had tidied her room and got to school on time. Downside is about 3 months of her washing up has appeared in the kitchen sink.

Got an e-mail from DS's maths teacher asking me to find out why DS is writing on small bits of paper and not in a book. Hmm

Had a salad and a fruit salad and now having a cup of tea.

Silkiecat is now cuddling DH and all is well in Silkiecat's world again.

OhWhyNot · 25/05/2021 22:58

I’m wondering if I should have my winter or summer duvet on tonight

I love changing duvets though I prefer summer as a season there is something very special about getting my winter duvet out

I have even posted about this joyous occasion Grin

I think I shall have one more night with my winter lovely duvet

I’m nearly boring myself 😬

HelenaJustina · 26/05/2021 06:26

Woke up and instead of checking the time and having 30 minutes more in bed, I leapt out like I was late and didn’t realise I was way early until I got downstairs. This was at 5.17am. Having been waiting for a more socially acceptable time to have a shower wake up DH

Silkiecats · 26/05/2021 06:29

I just woke up and thought no everyone is late but its 6.25am, phew. Dh is snoring away here. Silkiecat still asleep.

OhWhyNot · 26/05/2021 08:17

I had the right idea last night to keep my winter duvet on

It’s chilly 🥶 this morning

Spudlet · 26/05/2021 09:30

I’m trying to buy DS a new bike on Facebook marketplace, as he’s almost kneeing himself in the elbows every time he pedals on his old one. It’s an annoying process. There’s one for sale in the next village which looks great, but the bloody woman selling it isn’t answering messages - well, she did answer the first one to say it was still available, but I’ve since sent two messages asking to arrange to go and see it and she’s read them but hasn’t answered. It’s so rude, it makes me really cross Angry

MissConductUS · 26/05/2021 14:54

Welcome, @OhWhyNot, and thanks for sharing your duvet deliberations and news. I have the summer duvet on. The temperatures have been intermittently unseasonal in New York. The forecast high temp today is 34 degrees C.

I have sadly finished watching the remake of All Creatures Great and Small and have moved onto a new series called Miss Scarlette and the Duke. It's a detective series set in Victorian London with a woman protagonist. It looks smashing so far. It was made by the US PBS (Public Broadcasting System), uses British actors, and has a very BBC feel to it.

Spudlet, they do grow up quickly, don't they? Are there any other places to shop for used bikes? Craigslist would be the first place I'd check here.

DH was a bit sore but got up before I left for work.

I've just made a cotton face mask using pretty yellow and red floral fabric. Put it on and the way the pleats lay makes me look like The Day of the Dead. Will it frighten shoppers, do you think?

Silkiecats · 26/05/2021 17:30

Cat hotel deposit paid, now booking wabbit's vaccine. I suspect the vet may have something to say about wabbit's weight.

MissConductUS · 26/05/2021 18:13

hattie, everyone needs a bit of color these days. Smile

Silkie, the cat hotel sounds posh. I think ours would rather stay home and have a cat sitter come in. Being moved would upset them I think.

I noticed on my way out this morning that my peonies are blooming early this year, probably due to all of the hot weather we've been having.

Silkiecat is not kind with catsitters, she often hisses at them and leaves them bleeding as she is cross they are on her territory.

The last ordinary cattery DH put her in she got quite ill and needed emergency vets and I think now she's older she needs somewhere they pay more attention. Also she has very high standards and requirements, the form is about 10 pages of likes and dislikes to fill in and they get a choice of 6 home made meals 3 times a day like fresh fish. She gets a room to herself with a window and lots of soft things in it and a climbing area and a sleep area. She was quite happy there last year and most important healthy at the end of it.

OhWhyNot · 26/05/2021 18:47

Thank you MissConductUS wow it’s hot there. No doubt you already aware it’s unseasonably cold and very wet here.

Watching news with cup of tea and some shortbread cuddling pusscat soldier 😊 ds getting on with homework without me moaning at him Grin

Notthissticky · 26/05/2021 19:05

Hello everyone!!

I had both boys on my own today and it was lovely. This is only the second time I enjoyed having them on my own I promptly started thinking about having a third

DH had a job interview today. He thinks it went alright but not superb. He's very chilled out about it, he came across vacancy by chance so isn't super invested in it.

MissConductUS · 26/05/2021 19:17

Silkie, ours hide from the catsitter until offered food or treats, then they appear.

Ohwhy, the weather has been crazy here. Hot like August some days, then back to normal for this time of year.

Notthis, best of luck to your DH with the job interview. Is he actively looking, or did this just fall into his lap?

OP posts:
Silkiecats · 26/05/2021 19:39

Silkiecat takes the food then attacks the sitters.

She hates anyone in our house apart from us though doesn't mind workmen, she hides from them then at night appears and does an inspection of their work and blinks. Sometimes after a few days she will sit and watch them.

SpeedofaSloth · 26/05/2021 19:39

Just fed the fish.

Notthissticky · 26/05/2021 19:47

@MissConductUS It fell into his lap. He's perfectly happy where he is but the vacancy is for a similar role with more career progression opportunities and better pay, so it would be daft not to give it a go.

MissConductUS · 26/05/2021 20:19

I agree, notthis, it sounds like a step up. I think most people's significant career progression comes from changing employers.

I think my DH wouldn't mind changing jobs, but he's just got a few years left before he retires, so he'll probably just stick it out. It's also hard to find an employer who will take you on, knowing that you'll probably be leaving soon.
