Snobbiest places in the UK?

Following from similar threads about overrated and underrated places in the UK... where are the snobbiest places in the UK?

From the places I've been, I'd say Harrogate, Oxford, and the rest of the Cotswolds.

@newtb

Altrincham - the Bowdon residents' assoc refused to have Trafford as part of their address. It's why Timperley, Altrincham and Bowdon have Cheshire as their address. They're all in Trafford.
Sounds a bit like Worsley, don't remind them they're part of Salford and don't get me started on The Wirral!

Weybridge, Cobham, Henley, Salcombe, Edinburgh

PictureNest · 15/05/2021 20:54

Who do the people of Basildon think they’re better than?

Jawick? Grin

converseandjeans · 15/05/2021 20:56

Sutton Coldfield

JudgeJ · 15/05/2021 20:57

@Devlesko

Harrogate, Knutsford, Alderley Edge, Chorlton.

All fur coat, no Knickers. Grin

Sorry, I used that line too before I saw your post! Great minds think alike, interesting that two people make the same comment on the same towns in the NW. Footballers wives territory, I can almost hear Chardonnaaaayyyyy.
GabsAlot · 15/05/2021 20:57

oh we're defintely better than jaywick

KateTheEighth · 15/05/2021 20:58

Elie (Fife), Salcombe (Devon), Rock (Cornwall)

@TheAlphaandtheOmega

Same as PP, a lot of villages near not so nice towns. I live in Northamptonshire and it is definitely like that here.
Oh dear I am in the process of moving to East Northamptonshire 🤔
Iamanunsafebuilding · 15/05/2021 20:59

@Luzina

I think the snobbiest places are sometimes the nice villages near to not-so-nice towns. It’s so easy to feel “better than” in your pleasant village where the nearby town is a shithole
I live in Swindon and you are spot on! Cirencester and Bath are especially disparaging about Swindon, people who live in the many villages that surround the town are just as bad but so many rely on the town for their job and salary that pays for their lovely house in their lovely village! Annoys me
Checkingout811 · 15/05/2021 21:01

Haha came on to say Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Prestbury etc

Definitely footballers wife’s and very snobby but certainly not posh!

Also, Harrogate & Horsham

Hyacinth88 · 15/05/2021 21:02

Moffat in Dumfries and Galloway or a Thornhill in dumfries and Galloway.

Dashel · 15/05/2021 21:02

Agree totally with Harpenden, St Albans and Berko, anyone who has been to a farmers market in one of those towns knows that they charge through the roof for anything and everything

Also Alderly Edge thinks it’s very posh and well to do.

480Widdio · 15/05/2021 21:04

Sutton Coldfield!! Not at all posh,lived there for 18years,it’s just a suburb of Birmingham and very rough around the edges.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 15/05/2021 21:06

Lived in Guildford briefly as a new graduate. I'm convinced nobody in that town speaks because used to find people recoiling in horror if I made casual conversation in a shop or at the bus stop. Was incredibly lonely and moved on after a year.

Conversely, friendliest place I've ever lived is the North East. Total opposite experience. Smile

ThomasHardyPerennial · 15/05/2021 21:06

Salisbury is terribly snobby.

Dita73 · 15/05/2021 21:07

My mum’s house!

BingBongToTheMoon · 15/05/2021 21:07

Troon

ZednotZee · 15/05/2021 21:08

West Kirby.

The only place in Merseyside that sells out of the Daily Fail by 10am.

SarahAndQuack · 15/05/2021 21:09

I won't name it, but I got one heck of a shock when I moved to the village I live in now (and I've lived in a few of the places mentioned already). The day we moved in someone commented how glad they were we'd bought the house as it had been rented and renters are 'terrible' (reader: we had not bought the house). I have never been asked so many times whether I have a degree or where I went to university.

PremierLynn · 15/05/2021 21:09

Slough

Aubaine · 15/05/2021 21:09

This is a great thread Grin

krustykittens · 15/05/2021 21:10

Bath, horrendously snobby and up itself. Full of people who get dressed up just to walk around and look down their noses at others, yet also whine on about how poor they are. When we lived there I used to get sick of people trying to humble brag and make out they were struggling along hand to mouth every month, so were very ordinary, really. Despite have an expensive property, nice clothes and regular holidays. I wouldn't mind but there is still plenty of genuine poverty in the city they would have been faced with every day so they really should have been embarassed.

The only two people I know from Moffat in D&G are total snobby thunder cunts and I really can't undertand why they think they are so fantastic.

Tangledtresses · 15/05/2021 21:10
