Snobbiest places in the UK?

Following from similar threads about overrated and underrated places in the UK... where are the snobbiest places in the UK?

From the places I've been, I'd say Harrogate, Oxford, and the rest of the Cotswolds.

@CatAndHisKit - I would agree that Teddington and Kingston are not snobby ( though I didn't mention them). Kingston to me always came across as a tad townie, but that's me. Having thought about why I think these places are snobby - and do keep in mind that am not from the UK. They are all very hard to reach 'special' villages - who think they are very special and people must recognize their specialness. My impression is also that there is a 'special' aura around them that people do make you feel like you have to recognize and appreciate. Having lived in them - they are just reasonably safe but really inconvenient to get to places that are ok but actually, don't have all that much going on. Personally, I find zone 1 - areas that are in fact much more or at least comparably wealthy much less snobby.

people are used not to judge a book by its cover unlike in provincial wealthy places where some areas have no social diversity and people do dress true to the type etc.
Totally agree with this.
Or, as Paddington puts it, ' in London everyone is different, and that means anyone can fit in'.

That could partly be because of their Royal history though. That area was much favoured by Henry VII and Henry VIII.

Sutton Coldfield?! I think you mean the Royal Borough of Sutton Coldfield don’t you? I grew up there and yes it was quite snobby then.

Disagree with Horsham though-I don’t think it’s particularly snobby, we even have a Poundland (opposite Joules)😂

@Luzina

I think the snobbiest places are sometimes the nice villages near to not-so-nice towns. It’s so easy to feel “better than” in your pleasant village where the nearby town is a shithole

You're spot on!

Horsham, Petworth, Winchester.

Most of the New Forest, especially the Waterside area where the locals believe they are something special because of where they live.

LYMINGTON!! where the locals protested against a Whetherspoons and Poundland opening in the High Street.

The people of Frinton on Sea protested against the opening of its then one and only fish and chips shop, 25 years ago.
It was given a licence and called itself The Nice Fish and Chip Shop Grin

No one thinks Shanklin is snobby! It’s fairly normal.
The Isle of Wight isn’t snobby on the whole because both the rough bits and the posh sailing/boaty bits are usually part of the same family somewhere along the line. The annoying people are newcomers who don’t realise this.

Thewinterofdiscontent oh ok. That article did make me laugh though 🤣.

I've read that today - hilarious.
Just a nice little Skoda causing oourage, love how she starts trying to be nicey and polite but by the end explodes into the capitals 'THE DUMP!'

Jo yes, Wimbledon is like that. Agree re zone one - generally a mix, apart from Belgravia where it's a total bubble but who cares - it's boring to be that rich (in terms of social life, sticking to your own).

Yes, definitely Lymington where the “snotty yachties” are particularly snotty!

I holidayed near Lymington a few years ago. I don't recall it being that 'snobby', although it had a lovely Waitrose! The high street seemed rather lacklustre from what I remember (quite different from somewhere like Salcombe in that respect). Mind you, I've been to a fair few of the other places on here so maybe there varying degrees of 'snobby'?

Years ago I worked the Royal Lymington Yacht club as my employers company had hired an (outside) part of club for the day, at no small price, and the club people were really condescending and snotty and wouldn’t allow us to go into the club building.

I think Lymington feels even worse as some surrounding areas are pretty run down.

That's probably just club people in general.

@IntermittentParps

Muswell Hill is full of the dreaded metropolitan liberal elite (or sensible, reasonable people, as I refer to them).

Really?
Muswell Hill people are liberal. Really shocked at that. I need to get out more. I live in Enfield, always had Muswell Hill as a Conservative area.

Yes, it's full of media types. Lauren Laverne springs to mind; Peter Capaldi; Caitlin Moran.
@grandiflora - I have lived in different parts of London for many years. To be fair, some of these impressions are a bit outdated like Richmond and Barnes (though am assuming they haven't changed much). The latest one on me was going back to Muswell Hill. I used to love it about fifteen years ago, now it has just become snobby and we are moving out. My reading of what constitutes snobby is obviously a personal one. Am also European but you wouldn't tell from my accent, so I both pass as someone who should belong in those areas but also dont for other reasons.
Is Muswell Hill diverse or is just majority white?
