Snobbiest places in the UK?

Following from similar threads about overrated and underrated places in the UK... where are the snobbiest places in the UK?

From the places I've been, I'd say Harrogate, Oxford, and the rest of the Cotswolds.

OP posts:

St Andrews

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 15/05/2021 20:41

I second Beaconsfield but disagree with Morningside!

BrilliantBetty · 15/05/2021 20:41

Lewes.

Though they'd probably like to think they appear really "right on" and interesting. Snobby and twee.

@newtb

Altrincham - the Bowdon residents' assoc refused to have Trafford as part of their address. It's why Timperley, Altrincham and Bowdon have Cheshire as their address. They're all in Trafford.
So does Sale!
MissAmandaLa1kes · 15/05/2021 20:42

Do you include Inverted snobbery or just plain snobby?

Tartyflette · 15/05/2021 20:43

@Thighdentitycrisis

Who do the people of Basildon think they’re better than?
Pitsea....
FlatterNow · 15/05/2021 20:43

In defence of the Cotswolds, it's not all filthy rich.

@Partypoooooper

Most places I went when dd was in a pushchair people would make room for you/step off the pavement/open doors.

Not in Holt, Norfolk, they can't even smile.

They're probably not local residents, more like the green wellie lot.
Northernsoullover · 15/05/2021 20:44

Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan possibly. Its definitely posh but I have never felt 'less than' there. Apart from when I saw a pair of trainers I fancied..I asked the price and they were 270 quid. I had to beat a hasty retreat from the shop

Odd, I live there and my address is definitely Greater Manchester not Cheshire. Trafford is the council.

@PictureNest

Forgot to add two actually

Basildon and Luton

You must be joking about Luton.

Harpenden on the other hand...

waitingforthenextseason · 15/05/2021 20:46

From friends who live in Edinburgh there is quite a lot of school snobbery. There’s a large private school culture even among people who can’t comfortably afford it.

absolutely

My NCT group during my first pregnancy had this divide ... snobbish private school parents who have gone on to send their children all private and everyone else. Lines were clear.

JudgeJ · 15/05/2021 20:47

@OlivesTree

Burnham Market in Norfolk. Even the air is snobbish.
Not what it was though, some of the new-comers actually believe the hype.
wewereliars · 15/05/2021 20:47

Cobham hands down

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 15/05/2021 20:48

I recall in the GM lockdown there was a thing about parts of it thinking they were Cheshire

Susie477 · 15/05/2021 20:48

Harrogate
Clifton, Bristol
Fulham, London

sergeilavrov · 15/05/2021 20:48

Horsham. I’m convinced they based Hot Fuzz on the locals.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 15/05/2021 20:48

Basildon is the last place l expected to see on here!!

Pixxie7 · 15/05/2021 20:49

Basildon is arguably one of the most deprived areas in the southeast so snobby I don’t think so.

Clawdine · 15/05/2021 20:49

The scummier end of Notting Hill. Where people who buy a £750k flat can’t quite grasp that social housing tenants live in the same street and it’s really not that special or posh.

A journo for one of the more right wing papers moved round the corner from me and then wrote hysterical articles about social housing tenants leaving old appliances dumped outside (waiting for the landlord to collect) and having the audacity to feed the foxes (instead of hunting them presumably).

whiteroseredrose · 15/05/2021 20:49

This is hilarious. Lots of places I've lived over the years have been quoted.

Not sure about snobby, they're just nice places to live.

JudgeJ · 15/05/2021 20:49

@glasshalfsomething

Wilmslow
Fur coat and no knickers territory.
SinisterBumFacedCat · 15/05/2021 20:50

@DogsSausages

Richmond and Twickenham in Surrey
Yes!
osbertthesyrianhamster · 15/05/2021 20:50

This is going to go well.

Sparklingbrook · 15/05/2021 20:51

Stratford upon Avon. Snobby people and it's not all that Shakespeare's birthplace or not.

I love Cheltenham and I don't find it snobby at all.
