Snobbiest places in the UK?

Following from similar threads about overrated and underrated places in the UK... where are the snobbiest places in the UK?

From the places I've been, I'd say Harrogate, Oxford, and the rest of the Cotswolds.

PilatesPeach · 15/05/2021 21:11

Virginia Water, Sunningdale, Ascot, Weybridge

mamamalt · 15/05/2021 21:12

Hove, actually

Nancydrawn · 15/05/2021 21:12

Wilmslow has really ghastly modern architecture that manages to be boring and ugly all at once (not even ugly in an interesting way).

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 15/05/2021 21:13

Well I could tell you but i won't as we don't want any riff-raff turning up gawping at us on their day orf.

Coachee · 15/05/2021 21:14

Absolutely agree with Harpenden and St Albans. Makes me sad as I grew up in St Albans as a working class kid from a multicultural family and it wasn’t as full of middle-class moneyed wannabes back then.

Also Sutton Coldfield. PP summed it up perfectly!

PremierLynn · 15/05/2021 21:15

@Tangledtresses 🤣

ShamrockHillz · 15/05/2021 21:18

@Hoolihan

Beaconsfield.
I second this. I live in a town about 15 mins away which isn’t anywhere near as posh! I find most people there turn their nose up at you.
ShamrockHillz · 15/05/2021 21:18

@PremierLynn

Slough
😂
jollyho · 15/05/2021 21:20

villages and towns in the new forest!

SanFrancisco49er · 15/05/2021 21:20

Ahhhh I grew up in the prime WAG lands in Cheshire mentioned here...I didnt find people snobby but they certainly reacted oddly at times to my very southern, cut glass Mum! (Inverse snobbery perhaps?)

I would say Salcombe. All flipflopped, sail coated, unbearable locals.

TheNinny · 15/05/2021 21:21

The snobbiest place I’ve lived was in Perth. and there is absolutely no reason to be. The snobbiest people I know from elsewhere are from Perthshire originally.....🤔🤷‍♀️

Devlesko · 15/05/2021 21:21

The real rich aren't snobs, the ones who can afford really big country homes, or landed gentry.

It's the one's who aspire to be better than they are, who will never be as rich as the wealthiest. Dare I say, the middle class. Grin

Killergigglebunnies · 15/05/2021 21:21

I’m cracking up at Luton being snobby. However, I am a Lutonian working in the next town along (different county) of Harpenden and I can categorically tell you that they are the most snooty, ill mannered, entitled people I have ever met. They’re obsessed with money ‘old money’ ‘new money’ 🤮

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 15/05/2021 21:22

@Notcis50
It's more noticeable near Corby, I live in East Northants and it's not too bad here, I live on the Northants/Beds border, its fine really, the Northants villages near me are OK, I won't mention the Beds ones Grin

PollyPaintsFlowers · 15/05/2021 21:23

Barnes, SW London - they resisted having a bus route for years as they didn't want the type of people there who relied on buses. Even getting a small Sainsburys local upset some

DappledThings · 15/05/2021 21:23

Seconding Solihull. So much obsession with not being thought of as a suburb of Birmingham. When I was growing up there there was a campaign for Solihull to get its own phone code and not be tainted by being 0121.

MargaretThursday · 15/05/2021 21:23

Wrea Green in NW

Tangledtresses · 15/05/2021 21:23

Beaconsfield alsooo lolllzzzz how can they be snobby? It's a a small town just off a motorway? 😂😂😂

Thewinterofdiscontent · 15/05/2021 21:24

Yes to Beaconsfield ( and basically all the other villages that aren’t High Wycombe)

Cobham
Reigate
Godalming

Disagree with Chichester. Its got a right old mix of farming/ poverty Polish/sailing / Londoners for everyone to find inclusion.

FloconDeNeige · 15/05/2021 21:25

Yes to Sutton Coldfield, which despite desperately trying to claim otherwise, is part of Birmingham (not that there’s anything wrong with Brum).

Geneva. Although I suppose it’s not really snobby as it’s absolutely awash with cash & gold.

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 15/05/2021 21:25

Winchester
Farnham

regthetabbycat · 15/05/2021 21:26

@MamaWeasel

Solihull
Chelmsley Wood's in Solihull Grin
mummyh2016 · 15/05/2021 21:28

Those that have said Sutton Coldfield, I wouldn't say all of Sutton, imo Four Oaks is the snobby bit.

Beemail1 · 15/05/2021 21:29

oh we're defintely better than jaywick

Can anyone tell me more about Jaywick?
