Hi we are looking at houses around Warrington and Radcliffe any ideas if these areas are nice for families please

It all depends on your budget, your commute, your kids' ages.

Starisnotanumber · 14/05/2021 19:09

Radcliffe is the only area I know.
What do you want from your house.Central Radcliffe is quite run down, has easy access to metrolink for access to Manchester.
Bradley Fold area has newer estates nice property but far from shops etc. OK if you have a car. Central Radcliffe has nothing in the way of amenities other than lidl adsa and dunelm but if you can get metro there are more shops cinema and swimming pool in Bury and within half an hour you can be in Central Manchester.
Secondary schools not great but if you are fee paying Bury Grammar and Bolton School are relatively near and from nursery age upwards.
If you have any houses you are considering if you give info I may be able to give more advice

What about Whitefield? Not far from Radcliffe at all, but much nicer.

Adm1010 · 14/05/2021 19:30

I only know Radcliffe as I’m fairly near there . It’s not great tbh .

Holz11 · 14/05/2021 19:30

I would like to be near good schools though not really wanting to be near fee paying schools if possible

AppleSouffle · 14/05/2021 19:30

Down the road from Radcliffe, take a look at Prestwich and Whitefield. Metrolink stations, near Heaton Park for families and a much better vibe and amenities.

Holz11 · 14/05/2021 19:31

Ok thank you we were looking at Warrington as well but we are not really sure

OP posts:
Holz11 · 14/05/2021 19:31

Ok great I will have a look at these places

Holz11 · 14/05/2021 19:34

Another place we were looking at was ramsbottom not sure why commute would be like or area

OP posts:
Starisnotanumber · 14/05/2021 19:35

I agree Prestwich and Whitefield would be a better bet.
Independent shops and bistros Heaton Park and St Mary's Park.
Nearer to Manchester for you.
How old are your kids is it primary and secondary schools you need.

AppleSouffle · 14/05/2021 19:38

Ramsbottom is commutable by car or bus/tram via Bury. You’d have to visit and spend time there to see if it’s your thing, some people rave about it but I’m not keen.
Prestwich has some good cafes, independent shops and Heaton Park and St Mary’s Park. Very fast commute of 10-15 minutes on the tram.

AppleSouffle · 14/05/2021 19:38

Cross post Staris!

AppleSouffle · 14/05/2021 19:40

Also, Warrington is a terrible commute to central Manchester

AppleSouffle · 14/05/2021 19:41

What’s your budget and what type of house are you looking for?

Holz11 · 14/05/2021 19:41

Ok thank you need a good commute and my kids are at primary school

OP posts:
Littlejayx · 14/05/2021 19:43

Ramsbottom is a lot more community based and villagey feel than Radcliffe for sure!

I’d also have a look at heaton park, whitefield and those areas for sure!

Also ramsbottom has a annual chocolate festival

Holz11 · 14/05/2021 19:44

We are going to rent first I think so around 1200 a month would be max what we would wana rent for then see if we like area we will buy

Starisnotanumber · 14/05/2021 20:03

Ramsbottom has a god vibe but is a bind to get to Bury if you are metolinking to Manchester. If you are driving in has motorway access. Better primary schools and secondary school Woodhey is the secondary school for Ramsbottom.

Holz11 · 14/05/2021 20:03

Any areas recommend are much help thank you as my husband is going to have a look at a few areas next week

Holz11 · 14/05/2021 20:06

This is very helpful thankyou so much very hard moving to another city when you don’t no any areas

emmathedilemma · 14/05/2021 20:14

You do not want to drive from Warrington to Manchester unless you really really like your car! I would look at places along the metrolink line or depending on budget, places like Urmston and Flixton which are on the train line into Manchester. Trafford to the south has a property price premium partly because of the good schools and state grammar schools at secondary level (although they seem to be increasingly taking kids from outside the area).

Starisnotanumber · 14/05/2021 20:22

Nice house on St Anns Road Prestwich to rent for 1200 per month on Zoopla.
Is that the sort of thing you are looking for having trouble linking it sorry

Devlesko · 14/05/2021 20:26

Ramsbottom used to have a problem with young people and drugs. Most places do, but with it being small it seemed much bigger.

Anyway, most important question.
Can you stand tier 4 or more lockdowns than the rest of the country.

TooMinty · 14/05/2021 20:27

I used to live in near Heaton Park in Prestwich, it's a really nice area and really easy to commute into the city centre. I started out with a tram season ticket but swapped to bus which is slightly slower but less expensive and less crowded. Also wasn't too bad to drive in if your work has parking.
