Mourning food from your childhood that you can’t get anymore

I’m 10 weeks pregnant and having some very random cravings, unfortunately for stuff it’s impossible to get my hands on now! Specifically Birds Eye boil-in-the-bag chicken and mushroom casserole, Sainsbury’s cucumber relish, and Gino Ginelli tutti frutti ice cream.

Anyone else grieving for the amazing food of their youth that is now a distant memory?

Entemann’s chocolate cake.

Twister ice creams that were vanilla and strawberry twists with a chocolate core.

Orange hubba bubba bubblegum.

Sharwoods yellow bean stir fry sauce.

Terriyaki sauce from wagamama in a jar.

@h2obaby I remember them, I mentioned them near the start of this thread. They were the best crisps ever and I've been mourning them since their disappearance. You're right though, NOBODY remembers them!

Nutty bars and Weekend chocolates.

I've remembered a few more:

Mint Wispa
Vitafruit sweets - hard boiled sweets with a chewy centre that were tropical flavoured
M&S waffle crisps - standard in our house at Christmas.

@BrownEyedGirl80

Ready salted chipsticks.God knows why you can only get salt and vinegar.
Tesco do a version. Not quite the same as the original but not bad at all. I loved them too.
PamelaEwing · 08/05/2021 22:08

Sainsbury’s chicken in a basket (basket shaped chicken flavoured crisps)

Devon cream buns from the bakery with synthetic cream and a line of red jam

Smiths salt n vinegar twists

Mr Men toffee fudge yogurt

“Napolitan” brand peach melba flavour ice cream (scooped into cones at the newsagent)

Steakwich (or am I imagining this)?

New York seltzer drinks in clear cans with diff event coloured writing on, the cream soda was mmmmmm

IncyWincyGrownUp · 08/05/2021 22:11

Bovril crisps, secret bars, chocolate crunch pudding, the chicken sandwich from Boots that used black pepper and creme fraiche instead of mayo, puffs crisps, and the discos that used to be vicious enough to feel like they were going to saw your tongue off.

HippyChickMama · 08/05/2021 22:25

Vitafruits
Cheese moments
McVities Jaspers
Secret bars
Drifter
Fruit Toffos

gillys · 08/05/2021 22:27

Sainsbury's used to do a chocolate yoghurt with chocolate chips in it.
Pyramint.
Minty eggs - like a creme egg.
M & S delta crisps & their mince beef roll in pastry.

HippyChickMama · 08/05/2021 22:28

Oh, and those small cheese and tomato frozen pizzas that were something like £1 for a pack of 10, I think they were made by Ross

gillys · 08/05/2021 22:28

Forgot Fuse bars !

NowhereNearTheHighSt · 08/05/2021 22:31

Butter Brek loved it

@Aprilshowersandhail

A frozen chocolate individual dessert called a Lovely.. Came in milk or dark chocolate and had a swirl of cream on the top.. Amazing..
Mmmm Lovelies. I ate so many of these. I could never be bothered to defrost them and so ate them frozen solid,
SirVixofVixHall · 08/05/2021 22:41

@DahliaMacNamara

There was a long butterscotch type sweet in a clear wrapper in the late 70s, I think. It had a chocolate core running through the centre. I have no idea what it was called, and I always read through every last one of these threads to see if anyone else remembers it. There was a cola flavoured one too, that was like a long boiled sweet but with a very slightly chewy quality. That was amazing, and dentists probably had shares in the manufacturer. Crisp varietals I have loved and lost: Smiths fried onion KP Worcester Sauce XL barbecue beef. I wouldn't eat those now, but they were a regular Friday night treat back in my wild teenage days of going to church young people's meetings.
I loved those and nobody remembers them apart from you ! There was also a barley sugar version. Just a long beautifully twisted stick of barley sugar in a clear cellophane wrapper. I never had a cola one.
PamelaEwing · 08/05/2021 22:41

I just saw that someone has started up a petition online asking Birds Eye to bring back Lovely’s!

BitchIAmFromChicago · 08/05/2021 22:48

Thornton’s strawberry pigs
McDonald’s still Fanta. Best hangover cure everrrr!

Clevs · 08/05/2021 22:52

@HippyChickMama You're the first person ever to remember Vitafruit sweets. Every time I mention them to anybody they give me a blank look!

seepingweeping · 08/05/2021 22:52

Pot rice.

gillys · 08/05/2021 22:54

Also, Sainsbury's treacle tart. No lattice pastry on the top, just a tart case filled with the syrupy filling.

EatingAllThePies · 08/05/2021 22:57

@yogaposer I came to take the Secret bar! Also entemens carrot cake!

@Yogaposer

A chocolate bar called "Secret", nobody else seems to remember it but it was absolutely heavenly. Also, Etenmanns desserts.
I remember these!! I loved them ...
Dawncleo62 · 08/05/2021 22:59

Chefs cooked breakfast in a tin. Beans, sausage, little hamburgers & chunks of kidney!! Loved it. There is a version with potato in but no kidney. NOT the same!

Ethelfromnumber73 · 08/05/2021 22:59

French bread pizzas- the chilli beef flavour (although I'm veggie now)

Toast toppers- the ones with mushroom.

M&S bubbly bars- were like a more delicious Aero.

You can still get Ovaltine chocolate in Switzerland (it's called Ovomaltine). It's amazing, I stock up whenever I go

Ethelfromnumber73 · 08/05/2021 23:02

Also, frozen peach melba deserts with half a peach on the top and piped fake cream around the edges. Used to eat them straight out of the freezer
