Mourning food from your childhood that you can’t get anymore

I’m 10 weeks pregnant and having some very random cravings, unfortunately for stuff it’s impossible to get my hands on now! Specifically Birds Eye boil-in-the-bag chicken and mushroom casserole, Sainsbury’s cucumber relish, and Gino Ginelli tutti frutti ice cream.

Anyone else grieving for the amazing food of their youth that is now a distant memory?

@stonecat

An ice lolly that I used to buy every summer. My god it was gorgeous. The most refreshing thing. It was available in the 90s. Silhouette of mickey mouse’s head in lemon and cola flavour.

Divine. Wish they’d bring them back.

I forgot about these!!!!!!
Cannyauldsuddick · 08/05/2021 23:14

Heinz sponge puddings in the tins. Treacle one was delicious 😋

dillydallydollydaydream7 · 08/05/2021 23:18

Passion fruit sunny delight (when we were allowed delicious E numbers)

Morrison's and Asda used to do like a tea cake loaf with raisins and currants that was shaped like a round cob and sprinkled with sugar, it was delicious!

Does anyone remember superwhip? It was in the freezer section in a round tub. It was like a thick cream/ice cream a bit like a harder Mr Whippy!

Ashard20 · 08/05/2021 23:33

I haven't seen Terry's 1767 chocolates for years. They used to come in lovely boxes.
Also chocolate-related, the lovely gift boxes of chocolates which had different pictures on. The bottom half would be gold cardboard and the lid would have some lovely picture on it.
Heart ice-creams which were (obviously) heart-shaped, covered in chocolate with vanilla ice-cream and a red syrupy line running through it.

Uncle Ben's Mexican chicken sauce and birds eye boil in the bag beef curry and rice.

itchychin · 08/05/2021 23:38

Toffee and mallow eggs

CervixHaver · 08/05/2021 23:39

@Yogaposer

A chocolate bar called "Secret", nobody else seems to remember it but it was absolutely heavenly. Also, Etenmanns desserts.
I remember Secret bars, they were my favourite

@TiptopJ

Golden grahams cereal. They've been discontinued in the UK apparently but they were my favourite breakfast cereal
Golden Grahams have been back for a few years now
GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 08/05/2021 23:46

Applause bars 😫

Belledan1 · 08/05/2021 23:59

I think I saw sarah lee gatueax in farmfoods. I miss a mint chocalate bar called bitz. So nice.

lolacola77 · 09/05/2021 00:23

@Cannyauldsuddick You can still get the puddings in the tin that you boil. I got a ginger one in Morrisons the other day.

Anyone remember the Cadbury little round Christmas Puds?

I had a dream last night about Lean Cuisine Duck a l'orange!

deadvan · 09/05/2021 00:39

@Ilikecheeseontoast

I think they were called Minute Steaks... really really thin layers of frying steak (obviously processed rather than fresh off a cow). They were frozen and separated by layers off white grease proof paper. You used to chuck them in a frying pan from frozen and they'd be ready in a minute. Lovely with slices of fresh tomato between buttered white bread. My mouth is actually watering!
You can buy these in Iceland/Food warehouse Smile They're called sub steaks - don't know if they taste the same but I saw them the other day!
deadvan · 09/05/2021 00:42

Here you go, we called them steakwiches or sandwich steaks

"Those hot custard puddings that you sprinkled biscuit crumbs on. Came in different flavours but cannot remember what they were called?"

Oh wow... Hot Crunch... my sisters and I loved this pudding, was THE BEST!

Yes Cadbury’s border cream eggs, they were my favourite.

Blackbird pie and sweetbreads

bendmeoverbackwards · 09/05/2021 10:11

Ovalatine chocolate bar. I’ve bought a similar one from Amazon recently but it’s not quite the same.

Lindt chocolate animals - came in a box of 8 - puppies, kittens, ducklings etc.

Kellogg’s Puffa Puffa rice cereal

@aliensprig

Heinz hot puddings that came in a tin. Do they still do those?! Couldn't eat them now but I miss them so much.
These always used to make me throw up after eating them, as a child. Must have been allergic to some weird 80s ingredient
BranstonBeansAreSuperior · 09/05/2021 10:13

@VoyageInTheDark

They used to do a Heinz baked bean pizza in the 90s. I loved those!
Heinz pizza was so yummy, I really miss it, despite my username
bendmeoverbackwards · 09/05/2021 10:14

Also - Chinese spare rib crisps. Bought from school tuck shop in the late 80s. No one ever remembers these, they were in a black quite posh looking packet.

happiestbythesea · 09/05/2021 10:15

Junket tablets!

I googled Munchmallows and guess what I found?!

It says they're back and you can get them in B & M AND you can get them in white chocolate too! Smile[/quote]
Yes, I saw that. You just know they aren't going to taste like they did. Or like I think they did. Intrigued by the white chocolate ones though.

bendmeoverbackwards · 09/05/2021 10:18

@bigsplosh

Ovaltine chocolate bars. Yum.
Yes that’s the one I meant! I still remember the taste.
