I agree that you should keep a bit of it in case they deny its existence afterwards. I’d get the jar and photograph it beside the jar if I were you.

Wow, the overreaction to a mouldy thing on here is the astonishing thing. Just email the manufacturer with photos.

To be serious, I'd send the jar (plus yukky object) back with the receipt - if you still have it.
I sent photos and email to Primark after finding a cockroach in the sleeve of packaging. They sent prepaid returns package to send socks back. I said socks were fine, it was just a heads up in case there was an infestation in that warehouse.
They wanted socks, I sent them and they sent me £50 e-gift card.
Sainsbury's did exactly the same 3 years ago when I returned cheap (£7) pack of 2 pillow cases which were horrible material. I expressly said...NO compensation thank you but the supermarket sent £7 gift card, executive office sent another £7 gift card and later, a £50 cheque. I rang to say I really didn't want anything and had not complained as such, just didn't like the material.
I was told to 'enjoy' the money.

BTW, the Primark socks were only £5.

When we were kids I found a live maggot in a bag of dried fruit, newly opened. My mum promptly took it back to tesco who refunded. Then she wrote to the brand and explained. They sent a snotty letter back basically accusing her of lying and explaining how their packing process meant it couldnt have been possible for a maggot to get in, but enclosed a voucher for something like 10p off!!
