It can be done!
Large chicken, don't know the weight but it took 2 hours 5 minutes to cook.
We had -
Roast dinner for five.
Chicken fajitas for four.
Chicken and bacon pie for five.
Risotto for three.
And three chicken salad sandwiches.

Two adults, the secondary school kids. Maybe we just don't eat much so our portions are small.

Erm.....ok?!

Judyisapunkrocker · 19/04/2021 21:00

What! No soup?

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/04/2021 21:01

Did you make stock?

If this is a joke I think It’s been done before...

Soontobe60 · 19/04/2021 21:03

Crikey, you must be starving in your house!

Sparklfairy · 19/04/2021 21:04

Are you sure it was chicken and not a turkey?

I dont eat as much as some on here but there can't have been much chicken in those portions by anyone's standards.

A large chicken is around 1.7kg, obviously that includes bones and gristle. So what, 50g of chicken per portion??

CattingTime · 19/04/2021 21:04

Oh shushh. We ate a whole chicken between 3 of us yesterday.

OhDearShirley · 19/04/2021 21:05

So what's a portion size for you op?

gamerchick · 19/04/2021 21:08

Sounds about right.

People have no clue about portion sizes these days and take more than they need. I see it often on SM, people taking photos of their meals and there's often 2 or 3 portions on one plate.

Then people object to that view with tales of rugby players absolutely needing 2 chicken breasts to themselves. It's bizarre Grin

sunflowersandbuttercups · 19/04/2021 21:08

How much chicken did you have in each meal?

AgnesNaismith · 19/04/2021 21:09

Bollocks

LividJabber · 19/04/2021 21:10

No stock?

Poor show.

Xiaoxiong · 19/04/2021 21:10

If you made stock, you could have had chicken soup, pilaf and congee. And maybe then cracked the bones open and spread the marrow on toast, and ground the bones to feed to the dog, and spread it on your tomatoes and made a salad. There is loads more you can do with your chicken, you just have to be creative Grin

HunterHearstHelmsley · 19/04/2021 21:11

Was there a moist maker in the sandwiches?

user1495884211 · 19/04/2021 21:11

Awww, I thought this was going to be one of those add an item games. With my mumsnet chicken I made:
Roast dinner for five.
Chicken fajitas for four.
Chicken and bacon pie for five.
Risotto for three.
And three chicken salad sandwiches.

AND...some some scraps to add to Ddog's dinner.

Roominmyhouse · 19/04/2021 21:12

Good story.

Bloodybridget · 19/04/2021 21:13

DP cooked a 1.5 kg chicken on Friday, the two of us had roast chicken that night, a paella on Saturday which left one portion that we shared at lunchtime on Sunday; today DP made chicken, leek and mushroom pie, there's enough left to have tomorrow night as well. DP had a chicken sandwich for lunch today, and there's enough meat left to make another meal (but we're going to freeze it in case we start clucking). So that's 12 meals I suppose.

Livingonadream · 19/04/2021 21:13

Did ye aye ?

Kendodd · 19/04/2021 21:13

Did you make stock?

I did, and the risotto (made with dried soup mix, barley etc, not rice) was made with the stock. The chicken skin was crisped in the oven and cut up on top so it actually have very little chicken meat in it.

Are you The Borrowers?

Bloodybridget · 19/04/2021 21:15

Oh and lots of lovely stock! And DP might make pâté with the liver!

titchy · 19/04/2021 21:15

Well fajitas, pie and risotto are all going to be bulked out with other veg and protein so it's not that unbelievable. I'd only cook one medium chicken breast if making fajitas for 4 adults for example.

Livingonadream · 19/04/2021 21:16

One chicken breast between 4 for fajitas?

caringcarer · 19/04/2021 21:20

I cooked extra large chicken 2.2kg and had roast chicken for 4. A small portion left for chicken tikka masala for 2. We are probably a bit greedy but I could never make it stretch to all those meals. I might boil carcase for chicken and vegetable soup though.

Kendodd · 19/04/2021 21:23

AND...some some scraps to add to Ddog's dinner.

Dog had those grizzly white knuckle bits. Made her day!
