I'm now up to episode four of The Durrells. I watched some more this morning while on the stationary bike and weight lifting. Blimey her children are hard work! And she has three good-looking men interested in her if you count Sven, the cranky but gorgeous Swede. I think I'm going to like this show.

DH and DS are leaving shortly to go see my MIL and bring her a mothers day card and gift. It's nice now but supposed to rain around dinner time, so no idea what we're going to do for dinner.

DH spoke to the owner of the HVAC company we use. They can replace the part that's failed under warranty, but it may make more sense to replace the whole unit since we have to pay for the labor and there are some other parts that are not under warranty that look dodgy. I just do not want it to fail again in July or August when it's hard to get them out to fix it, so maybe a new unit with a new warranty is best.

I have oiled two doors this morning. 13 to go.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/05/2021 14:58

concerned Oiled as in hinges or oiled as in wood treatment?

HildaTablet · 09/05/2021 15:10

Sympathies on trying to think of some way to use up 4 weeks of leave under the present circumstances, Prok (incidentally, I envy your ability to buy Wasa sesame crisp bread easily; I love it but it’s quite hard to find here, and also fairly expensive. It’s available online but for ££).

I’ve come out for a walk in an attempt to shake off a persistent low-level migraine, but fresh air isn’t really helping and I still feel mildly nauseous Sad

ConcernedAuntie · 09/05/2021 15:17

@Prokupatuscrakedatus

Wood treatment. And I'm told they all need two coats! They look really nice already but the house stinks.
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/05/2021 15:43

@ConcernedAuntie But I am sure the result will be worth the effort.

@HildaTablet WASA is more expensive, we usually buy Burger (Penny) or Goldähren (Aldi). As DH loves it.
I am more of a 'grey bread' person.

Champagneforeveryone · 09/05/2021 18:29

So glad you're enjoying The Durrells miss. DH and I watched it once and are on our second sitting, it's just pleasingly gentle and unchallenging. Myself, I am rather a fan of Theo Wink

Nydj · 09/05/2021 18:49

Happy Mother’s Day to those celebrating today!

I have had my second vaccine today and had a nice video call with my sisters.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/05/2021 18:56

@nydj Congratulations! Yay!

As the last metastudy on vaccine effectiveness (prepublished 06.05.2021) says:
"the vaccinated no longer play an essential role in the epidemiology of the disease" ("... das Geimpfte bei der Epidemiologie der Erkrankung keine wesentliche Rolle mehr spielen.")

Silkiecats · 09/05/2021 19:05

We had roast dinner then flan and DH has gone out for a walk.

The cat played the piano but I think she needs some lessons, can just hear her playing again - maybe trying to lure DH back.

HelenaJustina · 09/05/2021 19:31

We went for a walk (what else) with one of my siblings and their DC this afternoon. All 7 had a brilliant time and we had a good catch up too! Lunch boxes made, kitchen cleaned, beds changed, Archers omnibus listened to... peace reigns in my house.

HelenaJustina · 09/05/2021 19:32

@Squirrel26 we have at least 3 Spirograph sets, only 2/4 DC have the patience required to produce something!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/05/2021 19:46

Helena I only ever managed those simple spirals and never found out what I was supposed to do with the set.

mathanxiety · 09/05/2021 19:52

We have Wasa and Ryvita here, several varieties. I have never noticed much of a price difference. I currently have half a packet of Ryvita in my pantry. What I buy depends on what I can reach in the supermarket. Both Wasa and Ryvita tend to be stocked on the topmost shelf and I buy whichever one I am able to jump at and grab without bringing down the entire shelf. Sometimes I have resorted to taking a ladle from the kitchen items aisle and using the scoopy part to dislodge a packet.

We have a grey, cold day afoot here. Some areas further inland are to see wet snow or sleet. I like a colder spring usually, but this is winter coat weather.

Nydj · 09/05/2021 20:01

Thank you @Prokupatuscrakedatus - does this mean I should stop telling the Covid monitoring app that I feel fine every day?

As someone who is very a little short, May I recommend tongs? I have only just realised that I can use them to get things to the front of shelf in the kitchen at home and not drag a chair or stool across the kitchen all the time - it’s been a revelation! I am embarrassed to admit that I was well into middle age before it occurred to me to use the tongs.

Nydj · 09/05/2021 20:02

Sorry, that last point was for @Math - and, of course, any other less tall than average people that it may help.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/05/2021 20:13

nydj does the app know you are vaccianted and collects data relevant to that?
DS told me that he may stop wearing a mask at school when he is fully vaccinated.
Are these tongs? They are so practical.

Squirrel26 · 09/05/2021 20:14

I am trying to track down dog food. The lady in Pets At Home tells me supplies have been interrupted by 'that ship that got stuck in the canal'. I'm not sure the dog is especially committed to that particular food, but I'm not sure I can be bothered with the faff of changing to a different one.

chocolateorangeinhaler · 09/05/2021 20:19

I repotted an avocado 🥑 sapling I've grown from the stone last year. I treated it like a baby and it's been inside all winter. It's out tonight in a bigger pot with fresh John innis no3. I don't know what to do with it. Everyone said that I wouldn't be able to germinate it, then they said it would produce two leaves then die. It's a rather ugly thing.

Nydj · 09/05/2021 22:20

@Prokupatuscrakedatus - the app will know tomorrow that I have had the second vaccine. I expect it will want to know about any side effects for a few days.

I think those things you linked to are grabbers or litter pickers. These are the tongs I was referring to www.amazon.de/Küchenzangen-GWCLEO-Silikonspitzen-Servierzangen-Silikongriff/dp/B01MRV8JAD/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=tongs&qid=1620595074&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExVDM2SUhEVlpTN0hGJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMDQyNTYyUEtSUzUxUlBaSjJNJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA1MzQyNTJKMjRJVEFGQ1BJNUwmd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

Nydj · 09/05/2021 22:21

oops, better link to tongs

MissConductUS · 09/05/2021 22:57

Welcome, @ConcernedAuntie, and thanks for your home maintenance and beautification news. All of our doors are painted, and some need a fresh coat, now that I think about it.

I just got off Zoom with DD and my MIL. DD had her second Pfizer jab yesterday, felt poorly this morning, but is feeling better now. The whole family is now fully immunized.MIL is fine and enjoyed seeing DH and DS this morning. It's raining here so we can't cook outside. Since it's mothers day I get to pick a takeaway. Smile

Squirrel, here in the US you can order dog or cat food from Amazon. We get canned cat food as part of our monthly subscribe and save order.

Nydj Oh a Grillzange, easier to carry around.

Sunny here with birdsong.

theDudesmummy · 10/05/2021 07:29

DH is going fishing today. The hope is for a big trout, here it is called a Ferox.

Squirrel26 · 10/05/2021 09:57

You can here too, @MissConductUS, but I can’t find the right variety of the the right brand. Sad I wonder if they are actually phasing it out.

I shall try the other pet shop inside the garden centre on the way home tonight. Bloody spoilt dog.
