My mum once phoned me to tell me how sad it was that the family cat (18 years old) had dementia and couldn’t remember he’d been fed. ‘Dad and I have fed him 5 times!’

Yeah. Right. The cat has forgotten he’s been fed. Hmm

Paid for horse physiotherapy. Cheaper than human physiotherapy.

Silkiecats · 05/05/2021 13:46

Silkiecat needs feeding many millions of times a day and she is definitely not completely with us, she looks at me with a I have absolutely no idea who you are look and other day I was stroking her and she was blinking at dh for stroking her standing 2 metres away then she looked very confused and then had a well who cares look im happy I am being stroked but I have no idea how this is possible look. And she refuses to go upstairs ever, if dh brings her she acts like something dangerous is here, walking in a wobbly route, glaring at something then running past it.

Champagneforeveryone · 05/05/2021 14:24

DH has had his second jab this morning, the first jab went off with no ill effects whatsoever

However, DH only has two modes, "I'm so tough I'm utterly unaffected" and "imminent death". I have detected intermittent sighing and we've already had a declaration of "phew, I really feel like I've had this one" so I fully expect Imminent Death is approaching.

So that will be fun Grin

MissConductUS · 05/05/2021 14:49

@Spudlet

Spuddog seems to forget he’s been fed these days and demands a second helping fairly often. Not sure if he’s going a bit gaga, or just chancing his paw 🤔
I feed the cats at the same time when I get up. Dgirlcat stays and keeps eating until I stop feeding her. Dboycat will eat one small helping then leave. He almost always comes back 5-10 minutes later when he realizes that he's still hungry, and then I give him another helping.

Get the Dressing Gown of Doom ready...
Champagneforeveryone · 05/05/2021 15:07

Thank you for your kind thoughts sue

He's perched on the end of the sofa, closest to the fire and declaring himself "freezing". The idea of putting on a jumper has somehow evaded him.

Deathraystare · 05/05/2021 15:29

@Champagneforeveryone

Ha ha If that was my dad (sadly no longer with us) he would have happily donned the dressing gown of doom, plus a natty scarf to go with it. He would have then groaned on until Mum (also sadly no longer with us) had shouted "For God sake go to bed!". He enjoyed manflu every Christmas without fail!!!

Deathraystare · 05/05/2021 15:42

I at last got the date for my ECHO cardiogram thingy. I thought I would get a taxi as although the person who rang me from St Mary's claimed it was just around the corner, it obviously wasn't. Sadly the taxi took me to the wrong place. I rang work to ask if they'd ring for a taxi for me (I have payg so the minute someone speaks that is £10 gone!). For some reason the taxi company did not answer (and they kept trying! In the end I tried but still no one answered. In the end I got a bus back to civilisation - which was a miracle in itself because I can hardly breathe so walking is a trial (somewhere I recognised) and asked in a shop for where Maida Vale was. Managed to get there with 5 minutes to spare (I would have been over an hour early!!).

Now the fun starts. Trying to get the results! I tried my Gp on Saturday but was told to phone after the bank holiday. Tried today but got nowhere. It is going to be a long week of phone calls, holding on and on and on.....

Getting really fed up. I have no energy. I have plenty of things to do but do not manage to do them. Plus my legs and feet have swollen so the summer sandals I bought (two straps) are useless for me now. I used to laugh at my mum's 'cornish pasty' feet. Karma is a bitch!!

Silkiecats · 05/05/2021 16:14

Hope your DH feels better soon Champagne

I got the doctor to send some migraine medicine to the pharmacy so at least she will have some strong meds soon though has been eating Nutella so think she is on the mend. Ds is back from school.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 05/05/2021 17:05

70 km/h gales coming towards me (of course) on my way to physio today.
I managed to be in and out in between hail stroms and rain.

MissConductUS · 05/05/2021 17:06

Deathray, so you had the echo last week? I hope you get the results soon. The edema in your legs and feet could certainly indicate a circulatory system issue. Feeling the pulse at the ankle is a good test too.

It's cold and rainy this afternoon and I have my MRI appointment at 5:00. It will probably take half an hour from start to finish. I'm hoping they're not running late when I get there.

soddingkitten · 05/05/2021 17:50

@soddingkitten How is the patient today?

Back to letting himself into Shyboy’s house through the catflap and eating Shyboy’s Felix, according to Lovely Neighbour’s update this morning. 🤦‍♀️ Yes, over his weekend hiccup I’d say.

Sunbird24 · 05/05/2021 17:53

I’ve got a 3kg box of pic’n’mix arriving tomorrow, should I take bets on how long it lasts me?

Nydj · 05/05/2021 17:53

@Deathraystare, I hope you find the cause and some relief for your symptoms soon.

I have had a haircut! Probably a bit too exciting for the thread - sorry.

MissConductUS · 05/05/2021 17:56

I've just had a sign that I'm spending too much time on MN. I just tried to bold a phrase in Microsoft Word by putting asterisks at the beginning and end.

When the radiology nurse rang me a few days ago with my appointment reminder I was sternly cautioned to remove any piercings or body jewelry well ahead of the appointment. I had to assure her that it wouldn't be an issue as long as someone could help me refasten the gold chain my crucifix is on.

There was an incident about 20 years ago in a nearby hospital where a patient was killed when a porter mistakenly wheeled a steel oxygen cylinder into an MRI room while an exam was taking place. All of the rooms have now been redesigned to have both an inner and outer area locked door.

Would have thought gold should be ok as it’s non-metallic, but I guess it’s not worth the risk!

Sunbird24 · 05/05/2021 18:01

Non-magnetic even 🤦‍♀️

HelenaJustina · 05/05/2021 18:02

I did not avoid the rain/hail today. I got soaked doing gate duty, changed for a run (it was brilliant spring sunshine again) and then got soaked again just as I was finishing!

You can’t leave that MRI story with such scant detail, MissC. What happened? Was the patient struck by the tank as it hurtled past? Was there an explosion? I will spend all evening trying to work it out if you leave us all hanging like that.

My dull news: I am in the salon waiting for a haircut ruing my choice of face mask because this one feels like being slowly suffocated.

Sunbird24 · 05/05/2021 18:09

Nope, don’t come at me with that passive-aggressive tone…

I'm sorry Sodding, it was a really tragic death of a child. You can read about the incident here:

Boy, 6, Killed in Freak MRI Accident

The hospital is very highly regarded and probably the best level one trauma center between NYC and Boston. They also have one of the best pediatric centers in the US. I'd happily go there for care, so it's not a case of a dodgy hospital.

Sunbird, I'll ask when I get there if it's okay to leave it on. It's not pure gold of course, but I doubt if it's alloyed with anything ferrous. The Rad nurse also asked me if I had any metal objects implanted - pacemaker, stent, etc. I've been watching a lot of UFO documentaries lately as the US government is going to release a report soon on some recent significant sightings, so on a whim, I told her "Nothing unless the aliens put it there". Fortunately, she laughed but I wonder if she'll think I'm a nutter when I turn up there later today.

Here's an article that gives some background on the report.

How the Pentagon Started Taking U.F.O.s Seriously - For decades, flying saucers were a punch line. Then the U.S. government got over the taboo.

@MissConductUS were you brought up Anglican? Last time I was in hospital the radiologist was fantastic, he took off my jewellery then put it back on afterwards.

Hope appt goes well.

Spudlet · 05/05/2021 18:57

@MissConductUS God, how awful. Sad

I have just done a kettlebells class outside a village hall. It was only half an hour so there were very few rest breaks. I feel fine, but also like my legs may give way at any moment? ConfusedGrin Hoping my Grumbly Foot will approve so I can go back next week as it was fun. It’s now just starting peeing down, so good timing too.

MissConductUS · 05/05/2021 18:57

@Frownette, I was brought up old school Roman Catholic, then left the church in my early 20's. I became an Episcopalian (the US successor to the Church of England) when I met DH. He was baptized as an adult in the Episcopal Church. I was formally received after a year or two. Both of our kids were baptized by a woman, which still delights me for some reason.

I'm sure I'll get some help with my chain if I need it.

DH has had a nap and is now reclined on the sofa eating toast - he proclaims to feel "a little better" praise be

DS and I snuck to the KFC drive thru, taking advantage of the opportunity not to have DH pursing his lips like a maiden aunt, then eating everything and declaring it "surprisingly nice". The entire experience took over 30 minutes and I have just completed my first complaint in goodness knows how long. DH said "it must have been bad if you're complaining" Grin
