I’ve heard of quark as a sort of soft cheese, but never of it being used as a poultice (translation for wickel?) You learn something every day!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/05/2021 23:40

poultice, now that is a new word for me. I must find a way to use it.

Frownette · 01/05/2021 23:49

Prok you don't dare unless you have silkies! Or an MN chicken. Oh is quark new soft spread thing...?

I am out of touch.
Ah no @mathanxiety someone must come to the rescue. As I remember basil and parsley normally quite easy. And mint. Coriander an effing nightmare, goes all fronderry fronds, whispy.

mathanxiety · 02/05/2021 05:36

Prok I believe you are applying a poultice containing quark!

mathanxiety · 02/05/2021 05:38

Breiumschlag?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/05/2021 06:22

yes, a quark poultice (Brei is something else).

There is still no visible sun.

theDudesmummy · 02/05/2021 09:13

I know quark but had never heard of the quark poultice, that is so interesting

theDudesmummy · 02/05/2021 09:13

Very sunny here, but it won't last.

Squirrel26 · 02/05/2021 09:46

My mum had a phase of buying Quark in the ‘90s. We all thought she was quite out there. Grin

I heard on Gardeners Question Time (radio program where people send in their gardening questions) that supermarket herb plants are basically not good quality and not cared for before they’re sold, so you’re onto a bit of a loser before you even start.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/05/2021 11:00

Quark (like kale) is very ordinary everyday stuff here nothing special about it.
You can buy a quark based ready made poultice for 8,95 € or more at the pharmacy or get a tub for 1,75 € at the supermarket and DIY.

I made very sure DS's vaccination card is back in its file.
DH is cooking tortellini for midday.

sueelleker · 02/05/2021 11:07

We just had some rain and hail, and now the sun's coming out again. I've got loads of washing, as the machine's been out of action for 2 weeks, but I don't know whether to chance pegging it out.

Silkiecats · 02/05/2021 11:13

My laptop appears to be dying though has finally turned on again. Ordered a new one but after lockdown it feels like a good friend dying Sad It said you could get up to a £175 for your old one and value your old laptop - it said they didn't want her. Poor laptop, I still want her. It's only just over 2 years old so not great.

DD is going down to London today - she's going on the train - I suggested it as otherwise its over 4 hours driving for DH with taking her and picking her up. She's now taking forever in the shower.

I wish DS would go out but saying no to everything. Booked safari park for 2 weeks time (DH has his second vaccine next weekend) and hope DS will come with us then.

theDudesmummy · 02/05/2021 11:37

Would quark be expected to work on an injury that is weeks old (wrist massively swollen weeks after surgery for fracture)?

theDudesmummy · 02/05/2021 11:39

I bought a new computer for myself but I don't like it, and it's a hassle to send it back as it came from US, so DS has a very expensive early birthday present...

Sunbird24 · 02/05/2021 12:22

I’m going to try Asda instead of Sainsbury’s for my shopping today. Wish me luck!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/05/2021 12:32

@theDudesmummy
It works. I had foot surgery on the 3rd March. Haematoma and lymph swelling hindered my foot to get back into normal movement.
Physio has me do exercises, a daily footbath with not too hot water + 20g bicarbonate of soda for ca. 20 minutes and then quark poultice for about 20 minutes.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/05/2021 12:34

@theDudesmummy
I will spare you (and all the others) the before and after fotos Grin

Champagneforeveryone · 02/05/2021 13:21

Good luck sunbird Wink

We too have flitted between supermarkets recently, torn between the money saved at Tesco / Aldi but lamenting the lower quality, and the obscene cost of Waitrose coupled with the amazing quality.

As the least fussy member of my little family (and the one in charge of the budget) I've been happy to accommodate the changes. It turns out DH and DS have mostly just been living off toast and biscuits though, so we've compromised. We shop at Waitrose again but have more days where we have cheaper options like stir fry or jacket potatoes to compensate. It's rather like living with a pair of over large toddlers Hmm

Sunbird24 · 02/05/2021 13:43

They didn’t have a very good variety and their scan & go app is irritating. Think I’ll switch back!

HildaTablet · 02/05/2021 13:59

Supermarket choice is a head scratcher, that’s for sure. We started getting deliveries for the first time ever during the first lockdown (we are old skool in-person shoppers normally) and despite me signing up to every supermarket going quite early on, the only one who ever had slots was Sainsburys. We normally use Waitrose mostly Blush with Sainsburys as well, but not as much.

After months of Sainsbos exclusively I’m now venturing back to Waitrose in person occasionally but my goodness, the price difference has really hit. Though it’s nice having a break sometimes from the boring sameness worthiness of Sainsburys, despite its relative cheapness....

MissConductUS · 02/05/2021 14:39

With everyone talking about Quark my first thought was the Fernengi character from Star Trek The Next Generation. Grin

@theDudesmummy - was this the laptop without the touchscreen? Why was it ordered from the US?

Next Sunday is Mother's Day here. DH has gone out this morning to buy some lantanas in hanging baskets and begonias for the deck. If he waited until next Sunday the selection would be much slimmer.

DH is taking DS to get his second Pfizer jab in a couple of hours.

Skulking in the car hoping it’s going to stop raining. Will have to get out anyway in 5 minutes.

Weather app says there is a 38% chance of rain. I disagree: I can assure them it is 100%.

Spudlet · 02/05/2021 15:19

Well, had my first vaccine! The levels of efficiency were downright discombobulating. My appointment was at 2.00 and I was sitting in my car again by 2.05 Shock

So far so good anyway - DH and DFiL have gone for a walk with DS and Spuddog so I’m having five minutes of peace. And I took the new car there! I like it very much. It has a sport mode for dispatching slow people 😈

theDudesmummy · 02/05/2021 16:26

No laptops, the whole saga was about desktops. It really has become a saga.

The first one I bought in Ireland, returned it because no touchscreen. Could not find a large screen (29 inch) touchscreen for love nor money in Ireland/UK, so ordered one from US. It arrived (surprisingly rapidly) and it is very pretty.

I was excited for a few minutes, right up until I turned it on and saw the resolution of the screen. Way way lower than my current computer, which is 3 yrs old! Just really poor. I then checked the graphics card specs (well, I sent the specs to my brother, who is a computer guy) and they are really crap. (Didn't think to check this aspect before I ordered, I stupidly just assumed a new top of the range PC which cost a lot of money would be as good or better than my old one at everything).

I tried using the US computer for an hour or so, it was obviously usuable but the low resolution just irritated the hell out of me after what I was used to. So DS gets the new one and I keep my old one (which I now appreciate a lot more!).

I was not actually unhappy with my old computer at all, I was just needing DS to have an upgrade to what he had, so he can stop invading my office and playing Fortnite on my computer whenever I step out for a monent (his current computer is not up to playing games, it is really old and slow). So I thought OK, I'll give him mine and get a fantastic new one for myself, which will in some mysterious way, because it is new, be better than the one I have...didn't work out like that!

Next time I buy a computer I will be checking specs far more finely before buying! Sorry about such a long story...but it has a happy ending (except to my bank account I suppose).
