@spudlet
Grin I have no idea who Jilly Cooper is, but will add this to my 'cultural knowledge' of the English speaking world!

Yesterday was Walpurgisnacht and usually people dance and celebrate into May - not so this year and last. I am so fed up of all this - I want community back! Sad
I'll clean the kitchen instead.

Silkiecats · 01/05/2021 08:44

When we came back yesterday DH was eating his McDonalds and the cat was watching him and moving her mouth like she was eating as well. DH said cat you don't eat chips.

Squirrel26 · 01/05/2021 09:27

@Prok Jilly Cooper writes (slightly unintentionally) hilarious books about very rich people who behave very badly and have a lot of sex. There's usually a horse involved (not with the sex, just her characters are the kind of people who have horses lying about.) They're quite dated now because she must be about 80, but they're still good.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/05/2021 09:33

@Squirrel26 I see .... Grin

Can somebody please tell me to get up and do something?

Squirrel26 · 01/05/2021 09:34

Oh yes, and the characters are usually called something like 'Jonty Herbertson-Featherington, but we call him Knickers because of the time he rode a bicycle through the school dining room with Matron's knickers on his head'. And you can tell who's flawed but ultimately a 'good chap' by how kind they are to dogs. Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/05/2021 09:50

"but ultimately a 'good chap' by how kind they are to dogs." - that definitely would not work here as a device.

I have left my bed, got cleaned and dressed and will now calm the owl.

Sunbird24 · 01/05/2021 10:22

I guess that means I’d better get out of my bed too then Prok!

HelenaJustina · 01/05/2021 11:40

Been for a run, two loads of washing on the line and now standing slightly chilly at the side of a football pitch watching DC4. It’s okay when the sun comes out but when it goes back in, I do feel a clothing layer short!

Squirrel26 · 01/05/2021 11:48

There is all manner of cleaning that needs to be done, but I don't really want to do anything other than sit here on the sofa watching The Simpsons.

Champagneforeveryone · 01/05/2021 12:05

Today is the day, DH has gone for a haircut!

DS is at work so the house is eerily quiet. I should get up and enjoy the peace but I didn't finish work till 3am so I'm carefully conserving my energy for a repeat performance tonight Hmm

queenofthenorthwest · 01/05/2021 12:36

My DH has started to mansplain things to me over and over again. I've lost my shit with him this morning.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/05/2021 12:47

I will (yes, really) put down my book and chop the vegetables for our midday meal and while doing so do my 'put the weight on your right foot and remember the 3 points' exercise.

Silkiecats · 01/05/2021 13:43

Feeling rough now going hot and cold with a headache and tongue is still burning. DH was worried as had skin come off yesterday but skin is fine now, it was just around the vaccine shoulder and one hand. DH went you are allergic to your wetsuit then he went no its OK its the vaccine you are allergic too. Hmm

Squirrel26 · 01/05/2021 14:12

I prised myself off the sofa, and then got worried when I knocked something over dusting and the dog didn't immediately come to investigate. So I went and prodded him. Of course he is fine and now he has an opinion on what's going on. We are the literal definition of 'let sleeping dogs lie.' Hmm

Squirrel26 · 01/05/2021 14:15

To be fair to DH, @Silkiecats, you're only going to need one more dose of that vaccine, but you could get many years of use out of the wetsuit so long as that isn't what you're allergic to...

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/05/2021 14:58

I could stop me no longer, I had to find out what a wetsuit is. This will not become part of my active vocabulary.

Spudlet · 01/05/2021 15:29

Omg, I have had a Jilly moment today... neighbour came out and apologised for opening a parcel addressed to us by accident (it was in their postbox, they were expecting a similar sized parcel so just didn’t notice the address). Inside... 60 durex... DH had done a bulk order BlushBlushBlushBlush

She said to enjoy 🙈🙈🙈🙈😳 I can never go outside the front door again 😂😂😂

MissConductUS · 01/05/2021 16:26

Spudlet, thanks for that bit of British culture. MN continues to amaze and inspire me. [grin} at your parcel situation. Was the neighbor a man or a woman?

@queenofthenorthwest, I'm sorry to hear about your row with your husband, and please accept my apologies for not welcoming you properly after your first post.

Silkie, you should feel better soon and you'll probably have less of a reaction to the second dose.

Nice day here, not much going on this weekend. DH has done some more touch-up painting after buying two small jars of the paint we used in the kitchen and laundry room years ago. You can't tell the old alarm equipment was ever here now. DS is going for his second Pfizer jab tomorrow. I had a really busy week at work so I'm just puttering around today.

Spudlet · 01/05/2021 16:51

It was my female neighbour who brought the parcel around, but her husband had opened it. Apparently he was expecting some kind of spray gun and the parcel was about the right size 🙈🙈

Fortunately they’re a down to earth pair 🙈🤣

MissConductUS · 01/05/2021 17:48

That's good Spudlet. It was a big improvement for us when DH had the snip after our DD was born and we didn't have to worry about BC anymore.

I've just brought in the mail and it includes a jury duty questionnaire for me, for a court that's all the way down in lower Manhattan. That would be at least an hour and a half each way by train and tube. And it would include a lot of walking and standing that would make my hip quite painful. So my plan is to ring the orthopedic surgeon's office and have them send me a letter to give the court claiming either disability or medical hardship. If it was closer I wouldn't mind doing it.

I am sitting here with my foot in dairy - it helps, but can be very messy.

mathanxiety · 01/05/2021 22:12

The potted basil is now drooping alarmingly.

Maybe a little more water will revive it.

I am intrigued by the 'foot in dairy' situation.

Sunbird24 · 01/05/2021 22:20

Likewise math!
Yoghurt? cream cheese? ice cream would be too cold!

Frownette · 01/05/2021 22:21

@Prokupatuscrakedatus

frownette That kind of neighbour .... I'd probably be very outspoken. Did you get rid of them?
I didn't actually get out of bed! I quivered and thought what the hell is going on with all that banging. Then pulled the duvet over my head.

He's a nice guy but he's struggling a bit at the moment. He didn't mean any harm but I jumped a mile. Sorry probably a bit sleep deprived at present but will read everyone else soon.

@MissConductUS I'm 105 but doctor thinks this is due to step throat/tonsilitus. This is the problem with remote telephone consultations anyway. It's hard holding cameraphone and torch. Treatment is same for both though.

Quark-Wickel - a cheap and efficient way to reduce swelling. I my case in my foot.
Google does not give me a translation. But I am sure it exists, because it is a traditional household remedy.
