Following a battle with cancer. Very sad.

Just watched "Bill"

She was fabulous in that along with Damien. They didnt share a single scene but somehow they both managed to steal the show.

RIP

DeRigueurMortis · 17/04/2021 02:11

How very sad.

Wonderful actor.

Condolences to her family Thanks

MercyBooth · 17/04/2021 02:26

@UsedToBeSeventeen Helen did an interview for the Sept 2019 issue of Red and there was a quote from someone in there that said when she met Damien the electricity practically sizzled off the stage.

Netaporter · 17/04/2021 03:14

Such a terrible loss. I didn’t know her but I knew her work and I can’t stop thinking about her and how her passing must be unimaginable for her family. We are similar in age and have daughters/children similar in age and my heart goes out to them. She was quite simply unsurpassable as an actor and her actions as a compassionate human being right to the end demonstrate just what a huge hole she will leave in many lives. My sincere condolences to her family ❤️

FixItUpChappie · 17/04/2021 03:22

So cruel - thoughts to her family Sad

greengrassapreciationsociety · 17/04/2021 03:38

RIP Helen, cancer is such a shitty visitor to the body.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 17/04/2021 06:15

LizzieMacQueen · 17/04/2021 06:46

Maybe it's been posted upthread but Newscast have just re played her April 2020 interview. You'll find it on BBC sounds.

LadyEloise · 17/04/2021 10:34

May she rest in peace. Sad
I hadn't realised she was unwell.
Deepest sympathy to her husband and children.
Thank you to the posters who put her Desert Island discs interview up.

The newscast interview. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p09dy07q

I watched the gmb snippet. When she speaks and the way Damian looks at her like he is drinking her in. God it’s heartbreaking.

Yes @Queenofbeebers I noticed his adoration at the time. I also noticed that she looked very poorly, so sad 😞
MarvellousMonsters · 17/04/2021 18:04

She leaves children only a couple of years younger than mine. I can't even begin to think how it will effect them. Sad

LouLou198 · 17/04/2021 18:11

Incredibly sad, such a talented lady. I didn't see the GMTV interview with her husband at the time, but watching it now it appears she is wearing a wig and her hoarse voice may be due to radiotherapy. How amazing they were trying to help others whilst going through such a dreadful time themselves.

Bertiebiscuit · 17/04/2021 18:11

Horrible news she was amazing and will be greatly missed. Far too young, such a tragedy

Tictocrobot · 17/04/2021 18:20

I met her a few times and she was everything you’d imagine - sparkly, fun, kind, just magnificent really. It’s such awful news. I can’t stop thinking about her kids.

He does, doesn't he, and they handled it so well. 6 weeks before she died, remarkable woman, beautiful couple, God bless their children ❤️💕

@Handsoffstrikesagain

One of her earlier roles (I believe) was the very first episode of Trial and Retribution. She was great in that, well worth a watch. It was on sky recently.
Was that her who played the mother of the missing child? I had the book and she was on the back cover. That was a fabulous series, especially the first one. She was really good in it! So upsetting. It’s been such an awful week.
linsey2581 · 17/04/2021 19:41

I didn't really know who she was (I don't watch peaky blinders not my thing). I was in my local b&m with my 17 year old daughter and when I read it on my news app my daughter dropped the shopping and burst into tears. Once I read what she'd been in then I realized why. My daughter is a huge Harry potter fan. Got some funny looks whilst consoling her 😭

Loved her in Peaky Blinders and Harry Potter. Lovely woman x

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/04/2021 11:21

There's a beautiful tribute to her in the Sunday Times today from Damian Lewis. www.thetimes.co.uk/article/damian-lewis-on-his-wife-helen-mccrory-ive-never-known-anyone-able-to-enjoy-life-as-much I'm afraid I don't have a share token for it.

CarmelBeach · 18/04/2021 11:26

It hit me very hard and I don't know why
I never even met her. I suppose I saw her as my age group's Judi Dench or something.

I think she might have been working through treatment perhaps.

Negcap · 18/04/2021 11:48

I found her mesmerising to watch. A beautiful elegant woman...

MayIDestroyYou · 18/04/2021 11:57

She was absolutely brilliant.

Also, (and apologies if you find this too frivolous, it is not meant to detract from her supreme acting ability) ever since watching MotherFatherSon - in which she played the most possibly stylish woman I have ever seen portrayed on TV - I find myself asking, before any garment purchase, "Would Kathryn wear that?". I'll probably go on doing this for years to come.
