I first saw her in North Square, I think - she was great. This is very sad news.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 16/04/2021 17:41

She's an extraordinary talent and she is such a loss.

The first time I saw her was as the fabulous Rose in North Square

halfhope · 16/04/2021 17:42

I'm really sad to hear this. I thought she was wonderful and remember seeking out interviews about her. She was just so accomplished. I felt a real sense of shock when I heard.

AC12theletterofthelaw · 16/04/2021 17:42

Goodness. What a shock. They were both on breakfast tv not that long ago.

LostToucan · 16/04/2021 17:42

Her Desert Island Discs episode was fab - such an interesting, intelligent and joyful woman.

Gothichouse40 · 16/04/2021 17:43

Amazing actress, so very sorry to hear this.

topcat2014 · 16/04/2021 17:43

Oh no. She has always been a bit of a secret crush for me - right back to North Square days, I think.

Kaptain · 16/04/2021 17:43

@AC12theletterofthelaw

Goodness. What a shock. They were both on breakfast tv not that long ago.
Looking at a picture of that, it seems obvious now that she was wearing a wig.

So sad [safd]

pinkearedcow · 16/04/2021 17:44

Yes, she was wonderful as Anna Karenina, I think that was the first time I knew of her. So very sad to hear this.

KikoMiko · 16/04/2021 17:46

This is so sad. Many celebrity deaths pass me by, but this one has really upset me. She was so amazing in The Queen, Harry Potter and Peaky Blinders.

Reinventinganna · 16/04/2021 17:46

That’s so sad!

CatrinVennastin · 16/04/2021 17:49

So so sad to read this today.

Aunt Polly is one of my all time favourite characters and she played her so brilliantly.

Arrowheart · 16/04/2021 17:50

So sad. Such an inspirational woman.

peak2021 · 16/04/2021 17:52

RIP and thoughts for her husband and her family. Far too young.

Peridot1 · 16/04/2021 17:52

So sad. She was an amazing actor.

My heart goes out to her family.

ScandiNoir · 16/04/2021 17:53

This is such sad news, I absolutely loved her work and admired her very much. she has a magnificent talent. I shed a tear reading what her husband wrote, his pride in her and love for her leapt off the page.

MintyJulep · 16/04/2021 17:53

Genuinely sad to hear this.
What incredible talent, intelligent, beautiful, feisty, nuanced.
I always thought she and Damien Lewis seemed so very much in love.
Such a loss to him, her children, family and friends and to the world of acting.

Kaptain · 16/04/2021 17:54

Just listening to her, and people talking about her, on the radio. So sad Sad

DonLewis · 16/04/2021 17:55

Oh, gosh. I've just seen this. And cane starught here to see if there was a thread. There is.

What a wonderful actress. And I thought her and Damein Lewis seemed like such a lively couple.

How old are her children I wonder.

Gosh, very sad.

LampLighterInn · 16/04/2021 17:57

I couldn't believe it when the BBC notification came through on my 'phone.

Helen McCrory was one of those actors who compelled you to watch them in whatever they did, I loved her in Peaky Blinders but she truly was a standout in everything. She also seemed like she'd be immensely fun in real life.

It's a bloody shame, I'm so sorry for her husband and children.

Vargas · 16/04/2021 17:58

I had no idea she was ill, this is so shocking and so sad. She was far far too young... Heartbreaking. Her poor family Sad.

HermitsLife · 16/04/2021 17:59

On no. That's so sad RIP Helen 💐

longwayoff · 16/04/2021 18:01

Very sad, awful news, I had no idea she was ill at all. She'll be sadly missed. Poor family.

UsedToBeSeventeen · 16/04/2021 18:01

I remember reading an interview where she was playing a woman who was bored with her husband and the director had said to her - oh well we all get a bit bored with our partners after a few years, don’t we? - and HM said that she never had with DL. It was really lovely.

HowToBringABlushToTheSnow · 16/04/2021 18:01

This has really got to me. She really shined as a woman and an actor, so much presence. Poor Damian and their children, they looked like they had a great marriage.
