What will happen when the Queen dies???

Just pondering after Phillips death.

My view is the country will lose a lot of it's stability for a period of time, and I say that as a closeted Republican. She's all anyone alive has really ever known. It will be quite a time of massive change that's for certain.

The national anthem, money, names like HMRC - Will these all change overnight??

@Arbadacarba

At least if George has a girl first she won't be bumped by her younger brother.

George might decide not to have children, and then we'd get Charlotte as queen (I say 'we' but I'll be long dead by then).

If George doesn't have children then it could easily go to Charlotte's eldest.

Something that few thing about, the Queen at birth it would have been seen as unlikely for her to be Queen, girl born to the second inline.
The first inline abdicated but even if he hadn't he never actually produced any heirs, so on his death the current Queen would have become Queen.

I don't think the public would accept a gay King or an heir who's not genetically connected to the previous Monarch.

Why not.
They have before

I'm a few years younger than Kate and Wills so I might be around!
LindaEllen · 19/04/2021 09:28

It will be SO odd when she dies. She's all the vast majority of us have known, and those who were alive before she became Queen were too young for it to be that odd when it changed. I'm in a brass band and we have to play the national anthem regularly to accompany singers, and it seems so strange to me that the words will change (only a few, granted, but we even refer to the piece of music as 'The Queen'!!)

HareIsland · 19/04/2021 09:31

@Alsohuman

Thank you *@MissTrip82*. Always good when some random calls you stupid, don’t you find?

I’m not interested in the monarchy as a “social good” - it obviously isn’t anything of the sort. I never really cared about it one way or the other but all the spite, bitterness, envy and vitriol of some republicans have made me more supportive of it. Sorry if that doesn’t suit you.

You seem bizarrely over-invested to me, with a particular specialism in trying to make standard-issue UC crass 'quips' sound ok.
GizmoBasil · 19/04/2021 09:46

@YellowPurple

Money will change, Stamps will change Army and police uninforms will change

The national anthem will change

Charles will become King
Edward will become Duke of Edinburgh

Lots and lots will change

@YellowPurple why would police uniforms change? Confused

I've wondered if the Queen will die soon, now Philip is dead. It often happens with couples who have been married for as long as they were, one dies and the other follows soon afterwards Sad

RickiTarr · 19/04/2021 11:23

I've wondered if the Queen will die soon, now Philip is dead.

I wonder if she has any awareness that many, many people online keep making that tasteless speculation? For all the advantages of being royal, some elements of the fame sound revolting.

wesowereonabreak · 19/04/2021 11:52

Any celeb in the world is familiar with speculations about infidelity and affairs, and death. And plastic surgery but I think the Queen has been left alone over those.

I am sure she has learnt to ignore them, even if they must get a bit more painful when you get older.

Absolutely. Celebrity death betting is a thing.

It's very sad but true, many very elderly people struggle to cope with bereavement.

The Queen Mum was only 8 weeks after her DD, Princess Margaret. Philips mum was the same died a couple of months after one of his sisters.

I'm hoping the Queen having her new pups, spring weather and family closeby will be able to cope better than some others.

Absolutely. Celebrity death betting is a thing.

It’s a thing alright. Probably doesn’t ease the sting if you read your own name in the NY deadpool sweepstake. 😏

JustLyra · 19/04/2021 14:44

I don’t think QEQM dying soon after Princess Margaret is really a good example of someone’s death being hastened through grief.

She was 101, had been ill for months (she was unable to shake off a cold for 3/4 months) and was so frail she was wheelchair bound.

She died because she was old and unwell.

@Alsohuman

Name change fail *@HareIsland? I was responding to a direct comment made to me by @MissTrip82*. Bit of sock puppetry going on?
Sock puppetry. It's like the old days of LiveJournal.

No, sockpuppeting on Mn would be tragic. And the great thing about posting on a public forum is that people can comment on whatever they see fit.

Alsohuman · 19/04/2021 17:55

But @HareIsland, you said

You seem bizarrely over-invested to me, with a particular specialism in trying to make standard-issue UC crass 'quips' sound ok

I hadn’t even noticed you existed before that.

I'm puzzled as to why you think you should have 'noticed' me, @Alsohuman.

I'm sure @MissTrip82 will emerge at some point and declare herself an independent entity. I'm certainly not her -- I do NC frequently, but never return to a previous identity, or shuttle between them on a thread. Why would I?

Alsohuman · 19/04/2021 18:32

@SuziQuatrosFatNan

Definite name change fail. How embarrassing.
As you say. Embarrassing.
HareIsland · 19/04/2021 18:47

I’m happy to ask MNHQ to vouch for the fact that I’m not @MissTrip82.

Why don’t you report for sockpuppeting before you get quite so carried away with your whole ‘gotcha’ moment thing?

RickiTarr · 19/04/2021 19:03

I don’t understand why some of you think @HareIsland has to be someone else because she responded to a point not addressed to her?

This is a discussion thread on a discussion forum, isn’t it?

GizmoBasil · 19/04/2021 19:47

Fucking hell I leave the thread for a day and come back to accusations of Punch and Judyism Grin

We got a day off for Wills wedding didn't we so I'm assuming we get one for Queens funeral..?

Because she responded as if she was the original pp:

How can you be over invested if you’re unaware of someone’s existence?

JustLyra · 19/04/2021 20:50

It’s almost guaranteed to be a bank holiday.

Same with the coronation a year or so later
