What word is my speech delayed daughter saying?

My dd4 has a speech delay, she’s trying her hardest to tell me about her friend at school but she keeps saying “Sharon” and when I repeat the name she is getting angry because it’s not right! I can’t think what it could be!

Help me lol it’s driving both of us insane!

Little ones get so frustrated when we can't work out names, great idea to say you've not got your listening ears on!

Try to get a list of all the names of boys & girls in the class. I mind a 3 year old who I really struggle to understand sometimes!

I also hear Shannon (or Sharon) at first listen.

I have to say though she's the cutest annoyed 4yo I've ever come across Grin

But repeating what she's saying slowly and mouthing the sounds in front of a mirror (for anyone who's done speech therapy with a child this will being back nightmares 🤣) .....

It's possible it's Sarah because the R and W sounds can often become unclear with speech delay.

Sian/sianne. Definitely sounds like Sharon though, no wonder she's fed up with you Grin

I was getting Sharon from both videos. Could it be Karen? Would she be better trying to write it?

Thank you all!!

She is a cutie sometimes, apart from her massive meltdown earlier because she wanted more marshmallows 😂🙈

Could it be Shohan (boys name).

We've all really enjoyed listening to your DD though, she sounds very cute, particularly the "It's Sharon Mam"!

My oldest (13) tried to help and said “Karen?” And dd said “no, you’re a Karen” 🙈🙈🙈

Is it definitely a girl. Could it be Stephen given some of the other sounds she isn’t currently able to produce?

@Thedarksideofthemoon30

It’s deffo a girl. Iv asked on their Facebook group lol.

It just makes me realise how behind she is with her speech :(

This is what prompted me to get DD speech therapy when she was 4!

She was telling me about her new friend 'Bus' who turned out to be named Bliss.

Speech therapy was like a miracle, 5 or 6 sessions and she spoke clear as a bell.

Could it be

Sian
Sue-ann
Susan

?

Sounded like Saran or Sawan to me. Admittedly, I'm partly deaf, and I can't wear hearing aids when wearing headphones.

Sarah, possibly. It’s not an Irish name is it?

SunshineCake · 13/04/2021 20:22

Did you say definitely a name ? I was wondering if she was saying how many people she wanted at her party if not.

My son had a speech delay, and I’m going to suggest Joanne /Jana /variations of a ‘J’ name because the first sound is very similar to how he made the ‘J’ sound.

Hope you crack it!

Siobhan (Irish) pronounced Shivaun
Sarah Anne

I was going to suggest Tarun but realised its a boys name. My 6yr old thinks she is saying shalan or shawan

Squeejit · 13/04/2021 20:25

I heard Seren, but what about Th names? Thalan maybe?
The end sounds like a M or N sound and the start sounds like S, Sh or Th

I have this with my DS! There’s a kid in his class that he calls dewwald which I interpret as Gerald. When I SAY Gerald though he gets really upset and we can spend minutes with him saying dewwald then me saying Gerald then him shouting NO! Dewald! Absolutely no idea.
