My dd4 has a speech delay, she’s trying her hardest to tell me about her friend at school but she keeps saying “Sharon” and when I repeat the name she is getting angry because it’s not right! I can’t think what it could be!

Help me lol it’s driving both of us insane!

Ah don't worry about her speech op.

Ds1 was awfully speech delayed with pronunciation. So much so that when he moved from Reception to Y1 the school moved one of the TA's with him so she could act as his unofficial interpreter for his new teacher for a few weeks.

He's 13 now and you'd never know.

Are you able to describe some of the ways your dd's speech is typically different (if you know what I mean Smile)

Does she miss any particular sound(s), or change one sound for another ..?

Hannah? Sometimes h can come out as a s - although it sounds like it ends in a n sound.

I asked my 4 year old. She's adamant it's Shaun. I hear Sharon so am no use to you.

Can't help at all with the actual name, but it reminds me of my friend who's dd (aged 5 or so) assured here that there were DEFINITELY two boys called Niffin in her class.
Friend enquired further.
Nathan.

So she turns S sounds into Sh?
Because you're sure the name starts Sa?

N isn't often wrong, so I imagine the name does end in N

Darren? June? Jeren?

How we say S & Sh shounds are quite different in the mouth so seems an odd swap to me.
Obviously am not a SLT. You need a SALT to comment
But swapping Sh in for a J sound -- that I could believe. They are made in a similar way in the mouth. Just notice what your mouth does to make those 2 sounds (J & Sh)

DSs did the standard t for c & d for g swaps

Has your SLT explained what she's missing that matches up to this developmental chart?

They usually swap sounds in a consistent way, so helps when you can understand their likely pattern of misfired sounds.

No ideas, because I thought it was Simon til I noticed you said it was definitely a girl, but she's got such a cute voice! Smile
