My dd4 has a speech delay, she’s trying her hardest to tell me about her friend at school but she keeps saying “Sharon” and when I repeat the name she is getting angry because it’s not right! I can’t think what it could be!

Help me lol it’s driving both of us insane!

Or is she saying "someone?"

Thedarksideofthemoon30 · 13/04/2021 19:57

@GertiMJN

Are you able to describe some of the ways your dd's speech is typically different (if you know what I mean Smile)

Does she miss any particular sound(s), or change one sound for another ..?

She is currently having speech therapy through school and looking into private. She can’t say k, ch, th sounds and also some more but I can’t remember off the top of my head lol. So like car she pronounces it as tar.

Bless her, sounds like shannon? We always ignore something we don't understand to prevent DS gettng frustrated.

RosettaPebble · 13/04/2021 20:01

Erin?

saraclara · 13/04/2021 20:02

Karen?

onthinice · 13/04/2021 20:02

Serren or Sarah

TheChosenTwo · 13/04/2021 20:03

Oh god I thought Seren instantly too! Or Joanne because of the S/J sounds... but Joanne isn’t a particularly common name anymore. Not that it’s not still a possibility, I’ve worked in schools for years and I just haven’t met a child named Joanne in all that time!
Has anyone on the Facebook group got back to you yet?
Also, please don’t feel too disheartened about her speech, children really do develop at vastly different rates and she’s getting some help now Flowers

rhombuspocahontas · 13/04/2021 20:04

Zara?

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 13/04/2021 20:07

To me it sounds like Sowan in the second video and “someone” in the first.

Maybe it’s not an English name. Siwan. Sorren. I had a school friend called Chauan. I’d have put money on Seren until you said no.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 13/04/2021 20:07

I hear Seren or Sara. Possibilities are also: Serena, Sally?

Herewegoagain84 · 13/04/2021 20:07

Siobhan?

serin · 13/04/2021 20:07

Seren

youshallnotpass9 · 13/04/2021 20:07

I thought Selwin
DP thought Sienna
DS thought cellar

TheChip · 13/04/2021 20:08

Chwaraeteg · 13/04/2021 20:09

Sarah, sara or Tara? Dylan?

Mine had a speech delay at that age too (similar lettera to your dd by the sounda of it). I remember frantically trying ro ascwrtain what she was saying befire the ensuing meltdown. Good luck!

ImAlrightThanx · 13/04/2021 20:10

Sheeren? (although I think its pronounced differently in Arabic, it may be Anglicised).

Do you have a class list or anything you can refer to?

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 13/04/2021 20:10

What’s that name that sounds like Sigh-anne...it’s quite popular in the US...Cyan? Or something like that...

Junipersky · 13/04/2021 20:11

Maybe Suzanne?
Bless her. My son has a speech delay too and gets so frustrated at times.

Rosehassometoes · 13/04/2021 20:12

My daughter said ‘7’

Maybe Frozen?

ArabellaScott · 13/04/2021 20:13

My daughter said 'Callum'.

ArabellaScott · 13/04/2021 20:13

Callan? Karen?

CornedBeef451 · 13/04/2021 20:14

I had this with DD in reception. No speech delay but still some interesting names on her first party list. I had to ask her teacher to translate some of them for me!

Also when she started a new school in year 4 she was convinced a girl was called Whisper. It was a very multicultural school so it was a possibility but fairly unlikely. Turns out she was called Mispa.
