What word is my speech delayed daughter saying?

My dd4 has a speech delay, she’s trying her hardest to tell me about her friend at school but she keeps saying “Sharon” and when I repeat the name she is getting angry because it’s not right! I can’t think what it could be!

Help me lol it’s driving both of us insane!

Seven? Maybe she's telling you her age? Confused

Ah bless her. You need a class list so you can guess!

My first thought was Sarah. But some kids in my toddlers nursery have some unique names I'd never be able to guess without a list to refer to!

I'll admit that my hearing isn't great.

Is it def an "S" sound?

I hear Devon!

Thanks Thedarksideofthemoon30.
Shannon sounds possible from what you've said and listening to your dd.
But it's possible it's a much more unusual name Confused
Your dd sounds gorgeous- it's so frustrating for her isn't it? But as a former SLt and early years teacher I'm certain she will resolve those immaturities pretty readily Grin

Seren or Sarah-Anne. Does her school does those awful "star of the week" things? If so see if you can see them online? Then read out all the names to her!

The first I thought was Sharon, the second Karen.
But either way she has a sweet little voice. Gorgeous.
Try not to worry too much, they get there in fits and starts and leaps and bounds, in a few weeks time she'll have moved on to the next challenge bless her.

Could it be an Asian name? Maybe Sarwah which I think is Farsi, or Sawad (though I think that's a boy's name)?

Good luck!

@CuriousaboutSamphire

Email her teacher and ask for suggestions.

DS5 has speech delay and his key worker said she can give us a written list of first names of children in his bubble if we can't make out any names. Worth a shot, OP.

I’m hearing Joanne.

Ds2 was speech delayed. His first name begins with “ch” as does our surname and he was seven before he could say it. It was a painful few years.

My DS when aged 7 did this to me too - got really mad when trying to say his friend's name. He was saying "Eris" or "Erees" and it turned out to be "Elise". He couldn't say the "l" so it came out as "r". I too had to resort to asking parents. Could replacing the "r" with an "l" be common for children struggling with sounds?

What is the accent you have, Op?
Chances are your daughter will be using your accent..and local children ditto.
