What's the funniest name you've heard of for a family pet?

A friend told me today that they've finally named their new Shih tzu puppy who they got a week ago. He's gorgeous and fluffy and they've chosen the name Monkey! I know it's none of my business but I really don't think that name suits him and it sounds a little bit silly... but it's kinda cute at the sane time I guess!

There are two dogs near us called Alan. They are both absolutely marvellous.

My sister's loopy dog is called Margot and she goes to play in a field every Tuesday with her best friend Mavis who is a poodle.

@Shehasadiamondinthesky

My aunty had a cat called "Black pussy" because he was black. She was elderly, terribly innocent and of another era. I used to absolutely cringe when she shouted that out of the door at night to bring him in.
Haha, Mrs Slocombe!!
Favouriteworstnightmare · 10/04/2021 22:36

Cat called Eric Catona, he was a feisty Manc cat, who’d be about 20 now.

thecatsthecats · 10/04/2021 22:37

My parents just got new kittens.

My dad wanted to call his Ted.

Ted is his name.

Also it's a girl.

je4852 · 10/04/2021 22:38

My Godfather called his first three-legged cat Tripod. He later adopted another and called her Hoppy.

madamy · 10/04/2021 22:38

DS who was 4 at the time named one of our hens Henry Motorbike. Absolutely no idea why!

Scarby9 · 10/04/2021 22:38

Beelzebunny - a rabbit that had to be handled while wearing gauntlets. Decidedly not a cuddly pet.

sophs29 · 10/04/2021 22:39

One of my neighbours used to have 2 cats 'Fanny and Dick' her poor DH would be calling them in at night so embarrassed Grin

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/04/2021 22:41

We had a dog called Bonkers - named by his former owners.
He was a lovely boy.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 10/04/2021 22:41

When we were younger and pretentious, we called our silent cat Titus Groan.
We’ve had- Indiana Jones the goldfish
Yoshi the hamster
Currently the black cat called Marmite who was almost Slug.
Our little girl called our kitten Anchovy. Don’t know why, she was only 3.

deste · 10/04/2021 22:43

Collie named Douglas.

RiderGirl · 10/04/2021 22:45

When we were little my sister named her goldfish Matthew Dickens - absolutely no relation to our family name and we also knew no one called either Matthew or with the surname Dickens. I also once went to see a horse to buy, the lady was rather embarrassed to admit she'd let her teenage son name/register him and he was officially known as The Knobster!

Toddlerteaplease · 10/04/2021 22:46

Our ridiculously timid childhood cat, was called Dragon. Current cat is called Cheddar which really makes me laugh. It's perfect for her.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 10/04/2021 22:47

I have a cat named Purrlock. As in Sherlock.

HopingForRainbow2021 · 10/04/2021 22:52

My brother had cats called Face and Lube! I have literally no idea why!! 🙈

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 10/04/2021 22:53

A gorgeous cat I knew in Italy called Neville after Neville Longbottom from Harry Potter.

And I heard of someone calling their dog Alexa just to confuse the hell out of their smart speaker. That could be apocryphal though!

TokyoSushi · 10/04/2021 22:54

Not mine but on The Highland Vet (love that programme) this week there was a snake called Silence! Perfect and creepy all at once!

biggreengrinch · 10/04/2021 22:54

@3ormorecharacters

We have a cat named Megatron, which was funny when he was a little fluffy kitten but does make me cringe a bit when I have to call him in or take him to the vets. I always feel I have to explain that his name is a joke and we're not actually massive Transformers fans! He mostly gets calls Smegatron / Smegs / Smeggy now.

I knew of a cat called Anthea Turner, which I liked. I wanted to call our next cat Craig David but chickened out at the last minute.

Craig David 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Aprilshowersandhail · 10/04/2021 22:54

We once had a chicken called Keith..

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 10/04/2021 22:55

Oh and our cat is called Cody after Buffalo bill Cody.
My mum named him and she had Alzheimer's...

GellerYeller · 10/04/2021 22:57

I know someone with a hamster called Ham.i.am. It's registered at the vets as Steve though Grin

Haybo26 · 10/04/2021 22:57

Luckier - a pug! And Cyril a sausage dog

Haybo26 · 10/04/2021 22:58

@Haybo26

Luckier - a pug! And Cyril a sausage dog
That was meant to say Lucifer!
