What's the funniest name you've heard of for a family pet?

A friend told me today that they've finally named their new Shih tzu puppy who they got a week ago. He's gorgeous and fluffy and they've chosen the name Monkey! I know it's none of my business but I really don't think that name suits him and it sounds a little bit silly... but it's kinda cute at the sane time I guess!

My aunty had a cat called "Black pussy" because he was black. She was elderly, terribly innocent and of another era. I used to absolutely cringe when she shouted that out of the door at night to bring him in.

@Hellocatshome

*Many years ago my dgm found a ddog. Determined she wasn't keeping him she called him Nameless. For 15 years!!*

That reminds me of a dog that turned up in my dgm porch, he was there for several weeks and she shooed him away every morning. She was a very practical no nonsense widowed miners wife who was not known for being particularly soft hearted. After weeks of shooing him away she came down one morning and just opened the door and said "well if your not going to bugger off you may as well come in" that dog only ever known as 'dog' lived the life of Riley from that moment on.

That’s lovely

@3ormorecharacters

My DH and I have a running joke where we randomly say Boutros Boutros Ghali for reasons I can't quite remember, I'm lobbying hard to name our next cat that.

I've had cats called Onion, Teapot and Brenda. I wasn't trying to be funny/a twat but the names suited all of them!

LoveFall · 10/04/2021 22:24

I know another dog called Monkey and it kind of suits him.

thewreckofthehesperus · 10/04/2021 22:24

I know someone with a dog called 'Alan', always makes me chuckle when I hear him being called.

One of my fav animal name stories is from reddit I think. A woman who was bringing her tortoise to the vet and was too embarrassed to admit they had called her 'Voldetort' and registered her as 'Susan'.

QuitMoaning · 10/04/2021 22:24

When we were little, my brother had a rabbit which we called Stew.
He was adamant it was called Sooty but everyone else called it Stew.

I read on here about a cat called Taxi. Quite funny calling it in at night.

I had a Giant African Land Snail called Victor after Meldrew because he was a miserable sod. I tried to bring enrichment to his life by taking him to work but he wasn't at all grateful.

My cat is called Haribo, he's a sweetie.

JackieeWeaver · 10/04/2021 22:31

I know a cat called Mandu! @Hoppinggreen

HemlockStarglimmer · 10/04/2021 22:31

People names for pets are fab. I know of two called Barbara. One a dog and one a bird. The owners don't know each other.

TroysMammy · 10/04/2021 22:31

I also had a gerbil called mouse because that is what we referred to him to the cat as in "leave the mouse alone". Also had a cat called Socks so we named the hamster Shoes.

CovidCorvid · 10/04/2021 22:32

A cat called Pork Chop

CityCommuter · 10/04/2021 22:32

I'm still really surprised that the name Pussy is still popular for cats... An elderly neighbour years ago used to call her cat in at night shouting out 'come here my gorgeous Pussy'... it used to make me cringe!

We had cats named beauty and beast which was fine until we had to take beast to the vets on his own. We got some very strange looks when they called for "beast" 🤦🏻‍♀️

TiptopJ · 10/04/2021 22:34

We had a goldfish called Lemon. I'd taken my stepson with me to buy it and asked if he'd like to name it. Ended up having Lemon for nearly 10 years. We also had a George, Tiny and S.G but I've forgotten how S.G got its name

TinySongstress · 10/04/2021 22:35
