What's the funniest name you've heard of for a family pet?

A friend told me today that they've finally named their new Shih tzu puppy who they got a week ago. He's gorgeous and fluffy and they've chosen the name Monkey! I know it's none of my business but I really don't think that name suits him and it sounds a little bit silly... but it's kinda cute at the sane time I guess!

My friend's dog was called Frisky (she was 10 when she named him) but slightly embarrassing when shouting out 'Frisky' as an 18 year old in the park

My post above probably doesn't count as funny though.

TheSilveryPussycat · 17/04/2021 23:35

A friend kept chickens. The cockerel was called CD - this was short for Christmas Dinner, but they didn't have the heart to eat him'

Another friend got a black rescue dog called Blackie. They changed it to Lucky.

We’ve had goldfish called Joan and Joyce after my grandmas. Also Chloe and helen
Rabbits called Dinner, Stew, Cottontail, Peter, Roger and Muffy 😳 oh, and an angora bunny called MrTufty.
Cats --Hugo the handsome (or huggy bear) Rupert the great, Maximums, Chilli, Sam, Charlie, Marmaduke, Gary ( Gary Linarcat) Lily von mew, lynx (because the looked like a mini lynx) and a pedigree Norwegian forest cat with a pedigree name of Princess moonbeam of the night who we called Tigger because she bounced like Tigger. Bump - she had a tuft of fur sticking up on her head so she looked like she had a permanent bump. Scully - he had a patterned face like his empty furless skull would look.
Rats - Daphne and Mr Jingles.

I was a vet nurse before my accident, at one practice I worked at there was a cat called Persephone 😳

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/04/2021 02:48

A large black semi feral tom cat called black bastard 🙄 (I hadn't named him, he was the house cat)
Knew a woman who called a puppy spunky wet patch....
A stray cat that had one eye who used to come for food, I named him Norman for reason 🤷🏻‍♀️

JillinSwindon · 18/04/2021 08:44

Someone on our local FB page
has a cat called Trip Hazard - which is a brilliant name for a cat.He regularly features on there because he brings in all sorts of weird things such as children's balls, a neighbour's post, a whole chicken and recently a hairpiece. He has completely messed up her laptop. Consternation and hilarity - we in the community tell her Trip Hazard should have a FB page to himself - he'd make a great character for a children's book!

LongTimeMammaBear · 18/04/2021 08:47

Not a wire name but leads to confusing situations. My dog is named jacob and we sometimes use Jake as well. When out walking we often have issue calling. Jacob come here and children start to come. Call out or say , “jake sit down!” “Jake stop” “jake poopy time, do you poops” etc confused looks abd judy looks from some you g mother’s who bunk we calling or children or their current . Far too many jacob’s in our area

A calf called hamburger, a dog called Queso (because my sister used to ask if he wanted a little cheese with his whine when he was a puppy), a cat called Hoshua (she was a violent girl and lived to be 20). There were also dogs called Bascom Van Slocom and Ivan the IV The Terrible. Now there is MidKnight Blue, Mick Jaguar, and Minnie Pearl the cats and Hunny Bunny and Doby the dogs.

BobISMyUncle · 18/04/2021 13:26

My first two cats were called Piglet and Tigger, from Winnie The Pooh. My third cat is called Millie, but I call her Pede, for short! She is the most vicious cat ever. I'm scarred for life. My furniture is ripped to shreds. She walks in front of me, all the time. I can only stroke her if she can see it coming first. She refuses to sit on my lap. She crowds my desk. Sticks a paw up inside my printer, (where the paper comes out) and leaves cat hair everywhere, in spite of my efforts. I have been kind and gentle with this wretched animal always and she treats me abominably. I wouldn't tolerate this behaviour from anyone, and yet Pede gets away with it. This wretched specimen of a cat has owned me from a kitten and is now almost 9 years old. Not a rescue cat, she came from a family, Just think how many scars I have, my arms, legs, hands. Even my back.
I wouldn't be without her. Bloody cat.

@CormoranStrike

If I ever get a sausage dog I am going to call him Richmond!
mine will be "Sizzle"
Tomasinabombadil · 18/04/2021 14:44

I’ve had a bit of a theme with naming cats over the years since the mid 70s., all rehomed adults, characters from JRR Tolkien The Hobbit.
First cat I had after leaving home was one of my parent’s farm cats, named him Bilbo Baggins. I lived in a large 3 storey Victorian house shared with a bunch of students. I often would be shouting for Bilbo to come in for food, he was quite the wanderer. One of my housemates asked me after a few months why had I named my cat Elbow🤣
Bilbo had a nickname too, Womble, because until he went to the Vets for the snip only one of his testicles had descended.🙄

Subsequent cats have been named Frodo Baggins, Pippin registered at vets as Peregrine Took, Tom Bombadil, Merry registered at vets as Meriadock Brandybuck and many more, too many to list here. I’ve looked after 18 cats over the years the most at the same time was 5, usually was just 2 or 3, always have had dogs too but they had normal dog names.🙂

I know a psychotherapist with cats called
Edie and Puss

My own cockerpoo plays with a whippet from Newcastle called "Chicken" (a term of affection in the NE)

Our kittens were named by the kids:
Gangster (black stipe over his eyes)
Thomas the Tank Engine (loudest purr)
Tootsie (film and one foot black)
Cleo (same markings as the Disney one in Pinocchio)
Poppy (tiny black specs like the seed)
Pooh-Bar (the bossy one - Lord-high-everything-else [Mikado])

Neighbours cat - "Oz" (coz he dug huge deep holes to do his thang) He was clearly digging to Australia

Big fluffy sand coloured cat - Simba (swahili lion)
followed by Billi (hindi for cat)

Black cat called " Cherry "

My cocker came named already - Mabel meaning lovable in latin - so we kept that
She would have been "Google" - search engine

olbndanszombie · 18/04/2021 15:09

My brother’s hamster when we were kids was kamikaze Bernard because when he was in his hamster ball he used to roll down the stairs!
My friend’s staffie is Dave and her husky is Reggie. My Auntie’s yorkie is Trevor and our rabbit is Arfur. As in R for rabbit 🐇

user5464 · 18/04/2021 15:12

@MamaWeasel

My cat always seems to look worried, so I called him Ponder.
excellent!
Cushionsnotpillows · 18/04/2021 15:58

@MamaWeasel just read your post - I'm sure a poster on here had the name Norbert Dentrassangle for quite a while. Maybe it's your friend? Smile
