What's the funniest name you've heard of for a family pet?

A friend told me today that they've finally named their new Shih tzu puppy who they got a week ago. He's gorgeous and fluffy and they've chosen the name Monkey! I know it's none of my business but I really don't think that name suits him and it sounds a little bit silly... but it's kinda cute at the sane time I guess!

@GertrudeKerfuffle

I love this thread.

I know a trio of cats in the same family called Schroedinger, Moonshadow and Fizzgig.

My friend had cats called Jellybean and Meatball.

I've met a puggle called Elvis a few times. If he wandered off out of sight on a walk his owner would say 'Where's Elvis?' and someone would inevitably reply 'Caught in a trap?' Grin

Not "elvis has left the building"

Cat called Pushtin. He was a stray and one day they open the door and he pushed in!

MargaretHooper · 13/04/2021 22:02

Had a teacher at school called Mr Christie. His labrador's name was: Agatha.

MargaretHooper · 13/04/2021 22:04

Currently have a neighbour with a renegade tortoise called Baldrick.

ilovebagpuss · 13/04/2021 22:11

I was out for a walk recently and a lovely pug dog came over and started to jump up for fuss. The owner tried to gently move him along and when he wouldn’t comply he said, and this still cracks me up “leave the lady alone Dave”

YessicaHaircut · 13/04/2021 22:12

My housemate at uni had a Russian Dwarf hamster called Gary Barlow. Still makes me chuckle when I think of it!

RealisticSketch · 13/04/2021 22:18

I have a chicken called teacup as she is white with black edges so looks like fine china.

wheresmymojo · 13/04/2021 22:21

Ours are Nancy Fancypants

And a sister and brother called Leia and Luke Skywhiskers.

Our fourth cat is just called Mia. She's a very intellectual cat though so I'm pretty sure she's happy with just a normal name.

sharalanda · 13/04/2021 22:21

Princess fluff fluff - an huge, overweight, male rabbit

Inarightpickleandpreserve · 14/04/2021 05:23

As a child I got a tortoise and called it Linford

Dryadia · 14/04/2021 05:58

We adopted a rescue called Bonzo, tried changing his name as my mum hated the idea of calling "BONZO", but nope, that is the only name he ever answered to.

He use to go to work with my dad (Army quartermaster) and spend the day working his way around all the messes waiting for his sausages.

Never put on weight though, was half Borzoi and use to go nuts chasing the boars. Loved going running with him.

Cocogreen · 14/04/2021 06:13

Chickens called Roast and Casserole ( Cassie for short!)

Gooseysgirl · 14/04/2021 07:17

Not exactly pets, but two local peacocks called Kevin and Perry. Sadly Kevin met his end recently thanks to some local foxes 😔 Kevin

I saw a massive tank of a man a few weeks ago. Trotting behind him was a miniature sausage dog, complete with a jazzy jumper. I heard 'come on Duncan' Grin

TheVanguardSix · 14/04/2021 09:49

I saw a massive tank of a man a few weeks ago. Yes! This reminds me! There's a local bodybuilder whose pug is called Tricep! Grin

My friend's cat is called Breadcrumbs. Smile

GizmoBasil · 14/04/2021 10:01

Our lumbering, rather stupid wolfhound was called Baldrick.

GizmoBasil · 14/04/2021 10:03

Oh and my sister and I were allowed to name out guinea pigs.
My 8 year old sister decided to name hers 'Lipstick Honey' Confused

Malin52 · 14/04/2021 10:07

A kitten that required rehoming called 'Decepticon'
A missing Labrador called 'Mr Shouty'

MaryBoBary · 14/04/2021 21:02

They just keep coming back to me - an elderly relative had a miniature poodle back in the 50s called Fang Grin. He was a pub landlord and liked to use the name to ward off unruly drinkers. Don't suppose the bark was very intimidating though!

frippit · 14/04/2021 21:14

I had 2 Dutch rabbits as a child called Floyd and Feelgood. I also know a sausage dog called Silly.

MrsDukeOfHastings · 14/04/2021 21:32

When we had 2 kittens, one was called Oreo and the other one was shy so we would say Oreo fo get your sister, she was only ever called sister.

DinosaurFarmer · 14/04/2021 21:33

DH and dc found a very poorly kitten in our local Tesco car park. DH wanted to call her Tess (from Tescos!) but kids didn't like it. No-one could agree on a name for her so I started calling her Miss Kitty Fantastico which soon became the only name she'd answer to! (She's registered as just plain Kitty at the vets though!! Grin )
