Not me but while we were in Devon my mum bumped into someone she knew from the north west.

I once was on a tiny ferry going to a remote island, there were 5 other people on the boat. One of them was someone I used to work with, and another was someone who grew up in the same town as me.

Met a work colleague who lived around the corner from us in Scotland when we were on holiday in Florida, obvs knew we were both going but bumped into her in a shop at the outlets

littlemisslozza · 08/04/2021 12:21

Yes. Family from a few doors down in the same hotel in Malta!

Cas112 · 08/04/2021 12:23

Yes whilst on holiday in Turkey, bumped into my neighbour who lived in the house opposite me haha!

peak2021 · 08/04/2021 12:24

Once in Belgium, but we were both going to the same event.

All. The. Time.

Dh appears to know everyone in the world. It's easier to count the times we've been somewhere and not met someone he knows.

In airports, cities, villages, on islands, up mountains. Really weird.

While on honeymoon in Sydney we flew just for the day to Brisbane to watch the Ashes. While in the Gabba we bumped into DH’s friend from our hometown in Hertfordshire who at the time lived in Tokyo and was also only there for the day!

We went on a cruise a few years ago and as we were on deck waiting for the ship to leave Southampton, our older son spotted his chemistry teacher from when he'd been at secondary school.
Younger son then said he was his current chemistry teacher.
Kept spotting him around the ship and he even went on the same camel excursion as us 🐪

I saw a checkout lady from our local Wilko in Ibiza.

Cactus1982 · 08/04/2021 12:43

Yes. Years ago we saw some neighbours on holiday in Ibiza. More recently I was walking along a street in London and bumped into some old friends of my parents. My DB bumped into my childhood best friends mum and dad on a beach in Greece.

I’m from Scotland, went on a mates holiday to Spain and bumped into a load of people who were in my school. They shouted across this giant square “HERE!!! ITS A COLDDUNCANGOODHEW FROM SCHOOL!!” Hadn't seen them in about 10 years and we all live in the same town.

Jody21 · 08/04/2021 12:51

Every holiday I've ever been on I've bumped into somene I knew!
First time I was in Spain I met a boy I went to school with, hadn't seen him since I had left school about 5 years before, we both still lived in the same town. Second time there I met the family that own the corner shop. On 3 different trips to Florida I have bumped into our postman, an ex boyfriend and a neighbor of my husband's parents.
On a trip to France we met the barman from our local pub. I guess it is a small world after all!

Not me but a colleague. She was on her honeymoon in Thailand and when she got on the (long!) flight home, it turns out she was sitting next to our boss, who had been out there for a short work trip Shock

I can’t think of many things more awkward, especially as the boss was not the sort you could have a laugh with.

While in Malta I 'bumped into' two separate families that I knew from my home town. One couple I worked with and knew they would be there the same time as me. I went to a nightclub in Cyprus and met a bloke I had got off with years previously. In Majorca I met a bloke who worked in my local bank, at a beach BBQ. In Isle of Wight , and Scotland we met school 'friends' of my DD. In America I shared a flight with John McEnroe, not sure that counts as he didn't know me, how I definitely knew himGrin

CovidCorvid · 08/04/2021 13:20

Dh’s ex was on the next pitch to us at a little campsite in Switzerland with her new bloke. 🙈🙈😆

I was in Vietnam looking around a military museum with my then boyfriend. I bumped into my first love (who I still had strong feelings for) with his girlfriend. I knew they had gone travelling For 8 months but had no idea where they were going or when . I stuck around for a 5 minute chat but my legs were really shaking and I could barely talk to them. It really shook me. My boyfriend then proposed to me a few days later and I took seeing my ex so happy with his GF a sign that this should be the end of years of wanting to get back with him and I said yes.

I was divorced after 5 years and 2 DC. He's still really happily married with 4 gorgeous DCs.

I was topless on a beach in Spain when I spotted a school mum and her family a little bit away. I don't think they saw me though.

CupoTeap · 08/04/2021 13:34

Yes next door neighbours at the seaside

MaMisled · 08/04/2021 13:41

One beautiful summer night, DH and I walked on the scenic, deserted beach at Durdle Dor, Dorset. We saw a local man from way back home, a known heroin addict and shoplifter, sitting throwing stones at a bag of dog shit.

gollymissdolly · 08/04/2021 13:43

I've bumped into people I know in Centre Parcs, New York, and Gran Canaria.
My parents were on a local bus in Indonesia and met someone they knew from many years ago when they worked in the same building.

pumkinpopsickle · 08/04/2021 13:49

I bumped into 'the ex who broke my heart' while on honeymoon. I saw him across the street and my jaw almost hit the floor. I never acknowledged him or mentioned it to my husband.

RubyWooRed · 08/04/2021 15:02

Yes twice
Once in Tenerife , lady who worked in my workplace
Once in Ibiza , staying in same hotels, lady who worked in DP workplace

Yamashita40 · 08/04/2021 15:10

I went to school abroad and had a maths teacher I really didn't like. We moved to a different continent 4k miles away over the summer and started a new school. First day of term, maths teacher from old school is now the new maths teacher!

Also my form teacher in the school abroad had previously taught at my UK school. Very small world. I was pretending to some of the kids that I was from Byker (Byker Grove was big at the time 😂) and she said 'oh, I'm sure you're from middle class town Yamashita'. Ruined my cool!

wishywashywoowoo70 · 08/04/2021 18:45

Saw my old boss walking the seafront in Lanzarote once.
Also saw a mate jog past me in Portugal.

Corcory · 08/04/2021 20:54

My DS made friends with a boy at the hotel pool in Ibiza when he was about 8. Several years later we bumped into the same boy and his family in the same hotel as us in Majorca. We also made friends with a family at a Haven resort then discovered we had actually not long before moved in homes to 4 doors along from them!
