Not me but while we were in Devon my mum bumped into someone she knew from the north west.

Many years ago I met a woman in Lanzarote who lived a street away from us in central Scotland. Never saw her again, until we went to the same resort the following year, first bar we went into, in she came!

Yes and a colleague bumped into someone who knew me! He said he was from a particular small friend and she said ‘my colleague is from there’ and he described me. Haven’t a clue who it was as she couldn’t remember his name. I also read an article in a magazine i bought to read on holiday where one of the lads was starting on the same course at my college...

Bumped into an acquaintance on the other side of the world, on a street very early morning in Vancouver, it was really bizarre.

Youaremysunshine09 · 07/04/2021 23:03

Yes in Egypt a few years ago, same resort etc

dementedpixie · 07/04/2021 23:03

Yes we've met people from our town while on holiday a few times. They were holiday Village type places and we all had kids of similar ages.

Several times, my husband runs a pub & there have been quite a few occasions he’s bumped in to a regular on the beach in another country.
We also used to bump in to my daughter’s teacher in a Mallorcan supermarket every summer for about 5 years running

Meandyouandyouandme · 07/04/2021 23:05

Yes bumped into my brother in Tenerife! I’d been a last minute stand in for a friend who was too ill to travel, and was in a nightclub one night and my brother was there Shock

I bumped into an old neighbour on top of the Empire State Building.

Proudpeacock · 07/04/2021 23:06

Yes! We were in a tiny village in Suffolk and saw a Dad and son playing football. One of us commented that it was the first non white people we had seen all week (live in Birmingham so used to a more multi cultural population). It was the husband and son of one of my DH's work colleagues. Her sister lived in the village.

BIL and his wife bumped into friends on top of the Empire State Building.

Yes, someone i had been chatting with on another message board. We were going to be in Disney world at approximately the same time and were doing lots of planning for it. We did not plan to meet but ran into each other several times while there.

I've got a male friend who in his late teens went on a lads holiday to Las Vegas - circa 1995. They met another group of Brits out there who were slightly older in their early twenties, they did a few nights out together. Fast forward and my friend is now mid 40s with two young kids. Went to Sani/ Ikos in Greece in 2019, got chatting to another family... The dad was one of the Brits from Las Vegas in 1995. They got chatting in the pool after the kids played with each other. Half an hour later and my friend is like: "This is going to sound weird but did you go to Las Vegas in 1995?!' Small world!

WithASpider · 07/04/2021 23:09

Bumped into two lads from school when I was 18 in Tenerife, in McDonald's of all places!

PennineWayinSlingbacks · 07/04/2021 23:09

Yes, lived in Surrey, got to Normandy and realised that the people in the gite next door but one were from our church.

saffire · 07/04/2021 23:09

Yes, quite a few times. Bumped into a cousin of my mums in a hotel in Spain. We'd arrived on the same day, but only saw each other the day before going home.
There's been plenty of other times too. Almost every time I go away I either bump into someone I know, or someone from the same town.

RachelRavenRoth · 07/04/2021 23:09

When i was a young teen we went to america and en route had a stop in canada. Just at the airport for maybe two hours?? Anyway, in the canada airport we saw my primary school teacher and my mum’s cousin, who were on a girls holiday.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 07/04/2021 23:10

Yes, in a restaurant in Turkey. Long story, but not someone I wanted to see so I kept my head down!

EverythingsComingUpRoses · 07/04/2021 23:10

I saw my teacher on a boat on the norfolk broads when I was 8

Not sure who tried to hide fastest?! Grin

cantgetmyheadroundit · 07/04/2021 23:12

I bumped into someone from my year at school at Niagara Falls...

My partner once sat next to someone on a plane to the US, and it turned out to be his old next door neighbour from when he lived in Saudi 20 years before!

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 07/04/2021 23:13

Yep. On holiday in Cornwall and as I walked past the bank I thought "oh that girl looks like friends granddaughter". Then saw friend in the queue. They were staying at the same caravan park.

Another time on holiday in Somerset. Sent DS to sit at a table while I queued up for food. Looked over to check he was OK and he'd moved. His teacher had come and sat at the table next to him Grin

RubyViolet · 07/04/2021 23:13

Our accountant at the bar of a hotel in the Caribbean.
We were just visiting for a drink at the bar, he was staying there....it was a very very very expensive hotel that we couldn’t afford.
We realised we needed to do our own accounts 😂

Fuckingcrustybread · 07/04/2021 23:14

Yes, we had moved back to Wales, we went on holiday to St Lucia and realised the the people next to us on the beach lived in the same town we had lived in Scotland many years before.

ContadoraExplorer · 07/04/2021 23:14

Bumped into DH's friend walking down MacDougal St in NYC. I saw him first and said "that guy looks really like Dave" and turns out it was. DH knew he was in the city at the same time but hadn't told me and had also joked with his mate that we'd probably bump into him cause Manhattan is such a small place...

Same holiday we were staying in the same hotel as an old colleague of mine, had no idea she was there as we weren't connected on SM, saw her in the foyer but wasn't 100% sure it was her until we were out on the street and heard the accent.

We also bumped into our old neighbours in the departure lounge in Dubai. We were coming from Africa and them Australia.

MsTSwift · 07/04/2021 23:15

My evil former flat mate in the middle of India. What are the chances! She was not with the husband she married when I knew her but a new innocent husband she had ensnared 🙄. She was an evil narcissist I don’t have time to write how awful she was. I was with dh who I had met after we were no longer friends. We had a brief excruciating pretend polite conversation for the sake of the men - both men baffled as to why it was so awkward. She saw me in the pool the next day and scuttled back to her room to hide. Utter bitch.

RosesAndHellebores · 07/04/2021 23:15

Yes: our next door but one neighbours who were staying 1/2 a mile away.

An old uni friend of DHs and his family - we had a fabulous day out a few days later.

One of the teachers from the DC's school.
