What do you have to turn off that's on TV because you can't stand the sound?

I just ran into the lounge from the kitchen because QI started. I hate the theme tune, I hate the claxons. I don't know if I'd like it as a quiz show because it's like listening to nails down a chalk board.
I had to stop watching Eastenders because of all the shouting.
Sports aren't great but football is a no go because of the crowd noise. Just as well DP isn't a football fan!
Anyone else got anything they have to turn off?

Keith Lemon. When I was pregnant and suffering from morning sickness one of his trailers came on TV and it made me instantly vomit into my lap Sad

Also Boris. His floppy buffoon affectation just gives me the rage.

itsgettingwierd · 06/04/2021 15:14

The Nationwide poetical adverts.

Ahhhhhhh the whining dressed up as cool and hip poetry.

itsgettingwierd · 06/04/2021 15:17

Also agree with "peer with surf".

And Eastenders.

I used to watch it on my iPad on catch-up because ds Swimming me at I was rarely in. It was my relaxing don't need to follow it escape of tv.

Then lockdown hit last year and it just grated on me. It was like I saw all the doom and gloom, DD irritating voice and the ridiculous circular storylines. Once stuck indoors and no where it go it stopped being an escape and I had to escape it Grin

that woman that goes 'clothes, clothes, clothes'

divergirl · 06/04/2021 15:19

Robert Peston 😡

tobee · 06/04/2021 15:23

The break bumper music from Sky Premier League. It's Celeste Stop This Flame apparently. Awful! Awful noise! Now they've added it to some of the Peloton adverts. Is if Peloton adverts couldn't get any worse.

SmellsLikeAHamsterCage · 06/04/2021 16:06

Eastenders, because they're always yelling at each other, it's just so miserable!!

MoonCatcher · 06/04/2021 16:19

Football, motor racing and Tracey Beaker

MoonCatcher · 06/04/2021 16:23

And Mrs Brown's Boys

Bluntness100 · 06/04/2021 16:24

Sports commentators. I hate the way they get all excited and start shouting fast. It really really friggen annoys me. 😂

AngeloMysterioso · 06/04/2021 16:31

Justin Fletcher/Mr Tumble. I just want to pummel him about the head and face with his own bloody satchel.

Beachhuts90 · 06/04/2021 16:37

@kwiksavenofrillsusername

I have misophonia so lots of adverts are unbearable. Mostly anything with whistling or slurping. Tea adverts are always terrible for this. I also can’t stand certain voices.

But the one that’s absolutely painful for me is the bloody Magnum adverts. That crunch that sounds like someone biting into plastic. How is that supposed to be appetising?

Me too. Slurping is the worst. I actually messaged a tea company recently because it was so unbearable. I'm sure they laughed but it's awful, and slurping isn't polite in real life so why put it in adverts?

@sashh

I’m in Ireland and cannot stand the sound of Angelus bell ringing at 6pm every evening right before the news, it gives me the rage

I went to schools run by the Sisters of Mercy (the name is a sick joke if yo ask me) so had to take part in the Angelus at 11.55 every day - I feel your pain even without hearing it.

Can I mention the radio? The Archers theme tune. Also any Radio 4 play / series with a child in it, obviously played by a woman. Oh and the 'BBC American accent' it's not on as much but in my childhood there were various series like Pollyanna where everyone spoke in this fake American accent.

Radio 4 plays here as well - particularly the generic 'foreign' woman, who has exactly the same accent whether she's supposed to be Polish, Lituanian, Russian, Czech, Iranian, Iraqi or from literally anywhere at a greater longitude than that of Alsace.

And everything else on here except the birdsong in Gardeners' World. I'd rather listen to a chiff chaff on a 10 hour loop than any of the other programmes on this thread.

FlyingNorth · 06/04/2021 17:06

The thing that really, really winds me up is the warp-speed reading of the financial terms and conditions after radio ads. It might have been mildly amusing when it was first done, but now it just sounds smug and dismissive to me, as if to say, "we have to read this out but we don't care enough to actually explain your rights."

Shirley that is very funny.

ameliajanes · 06/04/2021 17:06

American accents.

Any, any, any any ...

MilduraS · 06/04/2021 18:20

This is going to make me look awful but the sponsorship bit by Women's Aid that comes on during Loose Women. It's such an off putting voiceover 😳

Also, not related to the TV but the sound of my DH playing FIFA. He gets so angry and it puts me on edge. I just want to go into his study and throw the PC out because he's clearly not enjoying it even if he says he is.

LostToucan · 06/04/2021 18:30

Every advert with loud eating noises - crisps, ice creams, that woman who’s so pleased with her dentures that she eats an apple. Find them all deeply unpleasant.

tsmainsqueeze · 06/04/2021 18:34

Go compare ad.
Lv insurance ad.
Fairy biker baby , i hate it .
Jess Glynne is painful for me too.
Eastenders , loathe it .
Question of sport ,presenter's voice , format , lighting , cant bare it .
Football crowds sounds , especially if someone drumming.

Mollypolly2610 · 06/04/2021 18:45

Yes to the saliva clicky GP on Jeremy Vine.

Ben Shepherd who has to repeat every question at least twice and shouting YESSSSSSS all the bloody time.

Martha the Sky sport woman on Sky News. Sorry but I cannot stand her over exaggerated accent. Became aware of it ages ago when Andy Murray was in Australia and she said Aaaandy Moooooray about 10 times in a row. She gets switched off.

Quitelikeacatslife · 06/04/2021 18:52

Sex and the city theme tune

TLKlover · 06/04/2021 19:03

I once watched the 'perf with surf' ad and said "I want to throw her in the surf"

I honestly thought I'd said this in my head as it is rather a harsh thing to say, to then hear my husband go "TLKlover, that's so rude"! Oops!

That advert drives me nuts though!

GreenSlide · 06/04/2021 19:05

I always hated the theme tune to the X Files.

GreenSlide · 06/04/2021 19:07

Oh and I get a weird feeling when the music to Jamie's lockdown cooking show comes on Confused

yuccaplant · 06/04/2021 19:08

The one show.
