They are to go over my dd nappy for under skirts. But the name really pisses me off. Why can't they be called 'under skirt shorts'? There's no need to be judging two year olds on their levels of modesty.

My girl wore plain knickers over hers

Well, "under skirt shorts" is a complete tongue twister.

Generally, I'd agree with you, but given that they're for ages all the way from 2 to 16 they probably are worn for modesty more often than not.

frogswimming · 29/03/2021 14:57

I know, but I don't like the inference. There must be a better name. I mean 'big knickers' would be better for older girls without the judgement.

HamFisted · 29/03/2021 15:00

Aren't they just girls' boxer briefs?

FredaFox · 29/03/2021 15:02

I don’t see the issue? It was big knickers in my day and I think it sounds better

emmathedilemma · 29/03/2021 15:02

They're not designed for over nappies though, they meant to be worn as knickers so girls can climb trees, do handstands and sit cross legged on the floor at school without flashing. Although quite why they can't just be called knickers is a bit beyond me!

frogswimming · 29/03/2021 15:02

Yes! Why not just call them that!

OP posts:
FredaFox · 29/03/2021 15:02

I mean modesty sounds better than big knickers

Twinkie01 · 29/03/2021 15:02

How many pieces of material do girls need between their vulvas and the outside world to feel comfortable these days?

frogswimming · 29/03/2021 15:03

It's the word 'modesty' I don't like. Girls climbing trees shouldn't have to think about being modest.

OP posts:
PandaFluff · 29/03/2021 15:03

They are just boxer shorts?

frogswimming · 29/03/2021 15:03

'Girls boxers' would do the job.

OP posts:
frogswimming · 29/03/2021 15:04

I know, that's what I mean, they should just be called 'boxer shorts' not 'modesty shorts'.

OP posts:
PandaFluff · 29/03/2021 15:04

Are they knickers to go over your knickers?

PandaFluff · 29/03/2021 15:05

How weird. I agree with you.

Norwaydidnthappen · 29/03/2021 15:06

They’re not to cover a nappy, they’re obviously to cover underwear. Lots of girls wear shorts under their skirt/dress at my DC’s school during the summer because they like to do cartwheels and don’t want everyone to see their knickers. I think it’s a fairly sensible idea.

I know! I like the product, I don't like the name.

They are meant to be worn over pants, the fabric is thinner than you would probably feel comfortable in as pants- although obviously nothing stopping you! Under skirt shorts sounds ridiculous, and they aren't really 'girls boxers'. I don't really like the name but not sure it's a huge issue, if boys routinely choose to wear skirts etc they can wear them too. We used to wear them in netball (out of choice).

Northernsoullover · 29/03/2021 15:11

Over-underpants?

I don't get it either!
WreckTangled · 29/03/2021 15:12

I agree, they could just call them shorts. I bought dd some first bras from M&S and they're labelled as 'for comfort and modesty' Hmm there's just no need.

Mother87 · 29/03/2021 15:14

Agree!!

Palavah · 29/03/2021 15:14

They were known as 'games knickers' in my day and were on the uniform list
