Council Tax- how much is yours

I’ve read that council tax outside of London can be more expensive than inside, so I’m being nosy having just got my new bill.

I’ll start:
London, 3 bed terrace £1691.52 (or £169 over 10
Months)

Bloody extortionate imo!

4 bed Hampshire £3,200! Extortion and a massive increase on the yr before!

Sefton, Band B (3 bed semi). It's going to be £159pm over 10 months from April.

I worked out that it's gone up 27% since 2015/2016.

Water is another £44.

#onlyfoolsnmothers that sounds like an interesting programme - I'll have to see if it's still on 4OD!

South East, a 4-bedroom house with two additional habitable buildings (a barn and an annex): £2100/year.

@OnlyFoolsnMothers **Channel 4 did an experiment where by a street had to
Sort out all their own amenities and paid no council tax- failed as far as I recall.
Problem is provisions get less and our council tax goes up, no wonder people feel pissed off!

That would be because the government have halved the amount given to councils since 2010 yet councils are still expected to provide social care etc on less money, therefore things like libraries, which are not compulsory provision, are closed - and waste collection goes to every 2 or 3 weeks, and council tax is increased to try to plug the shortfall.

I've filled in the online form this week, but it seem that unless you contest your band within the first 6 months of moving in it's difficult to get anything done.

£1800 band D 4 bed semi Hampshire. Was a shocker moving out of Wandsworth from another band D semi that was well over £1k cheaper a year. But parking permits and high parking meter charges swelled the coffers of Wandsworth borough council.

But Wandsworth were consistently the lowest council tax in the country and ran a very efficient borough. If they can do it why can’t others? But as I said they accrued significant income from parking and I suppose did not have an elderly population demographic requiring care etc.

£1200 pa 1 bed flat greater Manchester

catfeets · 26/03/2021 23:48

Just moved house into an area utilising the 5% increase to the full Hmm.
£2500 a year (4 bed semi) and for that we get no street lighting, no road maintenance as they class it as a private road because they cut it off with a massive bypass a few years ago. We also get no green waste collections and one recycling bin collection a month - there's only one small mixed waste recycling bin and I'm used to 3 at the previous house.

Previous house was £1350 a year for a 3 bed semi.
