I’ve read that council tax outside of London can be more expensive than inside, so I’m being nosy having just got my new bill.

I’ll start:
London, 3 bed terrace £1691.52 (or £169 over 10
Months)

Bloody extortionate imo!

Leicestershire Band G
5 bed detached and £340 pcm plus a charge for the garden waste

tallullabluebella · 26/03/2021 20:46

North West town. 2 bed flat, whole floor of converted semi, Band B £1500.
Recently discovered that all the similar properties in the immediate area apart from our building are Band A

AnneElliott · 26/03/2021 20:51

Band F - London borough. £2650 per year over 10 months.

womaninatightspot · 26/03/2021 20:53

1700 a year no water/ sewerage included as septic tank/ pws rural Scotland.

BarbaraofSeville · 26/03/2021 20:53

£1200 pa for one of the few band As on the thread, Leeds.

At the risk of sounding like a Viz Top Tip, smaller council tax bills are available to all by simply moving to a smaller house in a less desirable neighbourhood.

If you think you should also be in band A, you can challenge it and if you win they might even backdate a refund.

Moneysavingexpert will walk you through the process.

Or just be on benefits so it get's paid for you Wink

ConferencePear · 26/03/2021 20:58

£2800 pa - Band F - 4 bed detached North West Leicestershire.

Allmyfavouritepeople · 26/03/2021 20:59

East lancs 3 bed terraced band b £150 over 10 months. We rent but the council tax is probably at least 50% of the monthly mortgage if not more. Gone up considerably in the last 10 years and the town is very deprived.

RizzleRazzle · 26/03/2021 21:01

South West, Band B, £120pm but mine is reduced to £30pm

I think I'm in the 2nd highest band in a London borough. GBP250 per month over 10 months.
Mind you it's about to go up and I have no idea what my new bill will be.

Svalberg · 26/03/2021 21:05

London, band E £2083 pa

Svalberg · 26/03/2021 21:06

Fimgers slipped! 4 bed end terrace

QuiteContraryMarie · 26/03/2021 21:07

A former London borough I lived in, Band G, was GBP149 per month.

waitingpatientlyforspring · 26/03/2021 21:08

Dh has looked up ours as he didn't think it was as much as I said... i was close... £168 per month in north east for a 3 bed terrace on a nice estate.

VexedofVirginiaWater · 26/03/2021 21:14

Just over 2k a year for a 4-bed detached in Lancashire - garden waste is £40 per year extra. Bulky items cost £14 for the first item and then an extra £6 per item if you have several.

LST · 26/03/2021 21:16

Staffordshire, band B, £147 a month over 10 months

LST · 26/03/2021 21:18

butterry · 26/03/2021 21:28

Wow mine is so expensive £2970 for a 2 bed flat, outskirts of London

dontbenastyhaveapasty · 26/03/2021 21:38

You do realise it pays for more than just the bins, don't you?

More than half of council tax goes to pay for social care, mostly for the elderly.

It also pays for the police, fire brigade, roads, environmental health, trading standards, building control, libraries, schools, museums, parks, staffing elections, children's services, etc etc etc.

I pay £210 a month and don't think it's at all expensive given what it pays for. Community provision of public goods is far more economical than if we all had to pay for them separately.

Imagine if you had to pay school fees for state school, it'd be a damn sight more than council tax is.

Parky04 · 26/03/2021 21:40

West Berkshire 3 bed semi detached - £170 pm.

nordica · 26/03/2021 21:44

£1457 for this coming year, SE London not a very nice area and a 2 bed terrace.

Channel 4 did an experiment where by a street had to Sort out all their own amenities and paid no council tax- failed as far as I recall. Problem is provisions get less and our council tax goes up, no wonder people feel pissed off!
