Council Tax- how much is yours

I’ve read that council tax outside of London can be more expensive than inside, so I’m being nosy having just got my new bill.

I’ll start:
London, 3 bed terrace £1691.52 (or £169 over 10
Months)

Bloody extortionate imo!

5 bed semi, surrey £209 month. It would be rebanded if I ever sold as I've built an extension. It's my second most expensive bill a month. 🤬

CovidCorvid · 26/03/2021 19:53

2k a year, 3 bed semi. It’s a disgrace.

I remember years ago seeing a thing about how much council tax Tony Blair was paying on his £7million London house and it was less than me. I don’t understand how it’s been allowed to go up so much. It seems to go up between 5% and 10% each year....far more than inflation!

Veuvestar · 26/03/2021 19:57

£240 with single person discount

Somerset, 5 bed detached £3150, no street lighting, no pavements. The problem I think is that council tax is still based on property valuations of 1991. The key here is the property valuation and council tax band rather than the size.

@CeeceeBloomingdale

£1725.74 (£173 a month over 10 months). 3 bed detached, NE England. Most other 3 bed houses on my estate are a band higher so an extra £200
Meant to say I'm band C

They limit you to two bags???!!! What if you have nappies?

I believe you can call them to discuss if you have nappies, not sure what the extra allowance would be. We have three adults and two children and honestly I struggle sticking to two black bags and I recycle everything I can

ScarletZebra · 26/03/2021 20:03

South Glos 3 bed semi Band C £200 pm.

Water on a meter extra.

Silkies · 26/03/2021 20:03

Ours is around £2500. We got a shock, moved out of London to a house half the price and council tax went up around £1000 a year. No idea why its so much, maybe as its rural?

There's pretty much no crime, only thing I can think of is a lot of thatched cottages so need more fire stations than average. Never seen a fire but its the risk. Though a lot of the staff there are volunteers from the villages.

hedgehogger1 · 26/03/2021 20:03

Northants, where the council bankrupted itself by pretty literally throwing our money away

Council Tax- how much is yours

HA in Hampshire - 2 bed terrace £ 129 month x 10.

Same as my friend who has a mortgage ( lower than my rent) and us a semi with garage and 3 beds in the same town.

Banding is flawed.

May172010 · 26/03/2021 20:07

London 3 bed flat £2,100 p.a.

Atomsaway · 26/03/2021 20:08

End of terrace, small three bed in band D. Up to £206/month. More money for less services. Restrictions have been placed on visits to the dump and they’re now charging £15 for a replacement bin (when their bloody bin men chuck them and the wheels fall off!). £80 for a gardening bin too.
As you can see, I am not impressed!

Northernsoullover · 26/03/2021 20:09

@notmethenwho

£3924.97 Sad South Wales coast. Bloody hell I had no idea how expensive ours is.
Are you in Penarth or VOG? That's shocking
Atomsaway · 26/03/2021 20:09

Oh, we’re in Greater London. SW

Yikes38 · 26/03/2021 20:10

2 bed Victorian ground floor flat - £70 a month

Roominmyhouse · 26/03/2021 20:10

Band C, 2 bed end of terrace in Kent. £177 per month over 10 months.

Silkies · 26/03/2021 20:10

Our banding is all over the place - based on prices 30 years ago.

WeAllHaveWings · 26/03/2021 20:11

3 bed detached £237/month. Scotland so includes water. Brown bin (garden waste)would be '£30 extra which is fair enough.

lanbro · 26/03/2021 20:11

It's nearly 1500 a year in my part of the NE, band A...I get the single person reductive, a UC reduction plus a special covid discount this year so actually comes out at about £350

hardyloveit · 26/03/2021 20:12

HelloCanYouHearMe · 26/03/2021 20:14
