We had a BBQ and a fire in the chiminea in the garden this evening. Now everyone is showered as we stank of smoke and settled into lovely fresh sheets. I'm about to do the same in mine.

I took DS1 and his bike up to Halfords earlier to raise the seat as I could not get the bolt to loosen. He has a BMX and his knees were almost touching his ears as he pedaled. He insisted that it was fine. I insisted that it was not. Within 30 seconds of the ride home he announced that that was much more comfortable Hmm

And in the theme of none of the males in my house ever listening to me, I have been saying that DS2 has outgrown his 16" bike for about six months. DS2 and DH both declared it 'fine'. I reiterated the point on Thursday after DS2 and I did a six mile ride with a friend that he struggled to go at a decent speed on. DH suggested that I let him have a go on DS1s bike (20" as that's a full sized BMX). I sent DH photos and he conceded 'that looks much better, okay, we'll get one later) and DS2 admitted that it was much more comfortable to ride. Why are they all so blinking stubborn?!

Anyway, I'm picking up his new bike on Friday and we managed to sell his old one on Facebook Marketplace within 16 hours of listing it. I will miss his old one though, it was an excellent bike.

MissConductUS · 18/04/2021 22:44

Rhubarb, like cats, some people just hate change. What did you BBQ?

We Zoomed with my daughter. She had minimal side effects from her first Pfizer dose yesterday. We asked if she had manipulated asked my cousin to take her for her second dose, and she had, but he had a work commitment that day, so his girlfriend is going to take her instead.

I'm impressed by her social skills. Smile

Perhaps a bit too exciting for this thread but yesterday DD and I visited the university that she wants to attend, and I adored it and think she'll be very happy there.

RhubarbFairy · 18/04/2021 23:36

Welcome @ZZTopGuitarSolo! How exciting!

@MissConductUS, I did my veggie sausages inside, but DH found some sausage patties similar to the ones @Champagneforeveryone was rmtalking about so he did those, hot dogs and chicken kebabs. However no-one liked the chicken so the cats were thrilled to be given that. Cat2 also hit the jackpot when she discovered DS1 had dropped half a hot dog on the floor. She picked it up and moved away to devour it. Cat1 was on dropped cheese duty. Both cats shouted at me when I collected the plates, assuming that I was serving them more. Both cats have been sufficiently sleepy tonight with full tummies.

Frownette · 18/04/2021 23:50

@RhubarbFairy I tried Richmond vege sausages recently, they're my new favourite. It's good the cats are worn out Grin

I'm doing the washing up and getting a cup of tea soon. I picked up a few books earlier on the walk back from the centre so will have a closer look at them with my tea (you know when people leave books out for people to take)

Been feeling discombobulated all weekend, hence not coming on to share dull news, sorry. Today (19 Apr) is the third anniversary of a loved friend’s suicide, so along with Prince Philip’s funeral it’s all just a bit sad really.

MissConductUS · 19/04/2021 00:53

I see that we have some night owls on the thread! I'm not used to this much thread company after dinner.

@ZZTopGuitarSolo - that is exciting! How far from home is it? I was DS's uni was closer, but he only has one year left. I'm really pleased that DD is only two and a half hours away.

Rhubarb, that sounds like a fine BBQ. Our Dgirlcat loves a bit of grilled chicken too. Is your grill charcoal or gas?

@Sunbird24, I'm sorry you're feeling understandably low. Flowers

@Sunbird24 that's sad :( You'll have to make sure you take a few minutes to think of her/him because they live on with you to remember them.

I'm just hoping I get a few hours sleep tonight as I have an early delivery, alarm needs to be set.

She’s going to one of the Seven Sisters which is about 3 - 3.5 hours from us in Maine. It just about makes up for the fact that she’s leaving home. She’s suffered with anxiety for a lot of her life although not so much for the last few years, but even so it’s tough to let her go. She has one friend already there and they are very alike so I think it will be great for her. And they gave her a scholarship and need-based aid so we can actually afford it.
MissConductUS · 19/04/2021 02:01

That's fabulous, ZZTop. My DD is also at one of the seven sisters. There's only one in western Massachusetts, so you've probably figured out which one. We didn't get need based aid but we did get merit aid. She loves it there.

amigababy Well done to your DD, that's very inspirational.

Hope you can get a pet soon.

I love having lots of pets and DH worships the cat and DS the rabbit and silkie chickens.

I seem to be on my Australian sleep schedule again, I just get so drowsy in the day since the hayfever season started and I can't stay awake. I told DS about the sheep farmer with 6,000 sheep and he said he would love 6,000 sheep. Though being DS he would need to hire someone to clean up after them. And he probably wouldn't shear them either preferring them to be as floofy as possible so I think will have to drop the 6,000 sheep idea for now.

Sunbird Thinking of you. Bear Daffodil

Frownette · 19/04/2021 03:42

You and me both, silkie, you and me both

Champagneforeveryone · 19/04/2021 05:25

You'll all be pleased to hear I feel marginally recovered.

I had a nap when I got home, then a roast chicken dinner, then back to bed. I've managed a further 10 hours sleep so things are looking a little sunnier Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/04/2021 06:07

Good morning, preparing for my first day in the office.
Cool and grey here.
We will see

Silkiecats · 19/04/2021 06:18

Singing birds and red sky here.

Have a good first day in the office Prok

Glad you are feeling better Champagne

Silkiecats · 19/04/2021 07:45

DS was wandering round looking for something but wouldn't say what. I said to DH I guess school socks and just given him some new school socks and he's rushed off smiling to the bathroom to change them. No-one must see his feet. Easter Grin

amigababy · 19/04/2021 08:41

Morning. Good night's sleep Smile
A two coffee morning though, just because I like it so much ( second one decaff)

Good luck back in the office Prok hope it goes well.

Zztop that's great. I really enjoyed university visits, we saw some lovely places. Even the ones dd decided not to go to, we had nice days out going places I wouldn't normally visit.

I'm also veggie. We don't do BBQs though, except occasionally on holiday.

Fine and sunny again. We're having our house painted at the moment (still nervously thinking about moving) and I offered bacon sandwiches to the painters, but they both patted their stomachs ruefully and declined on the grounds that they were trying to watch their weight.

I have to go into London again on the train for the second week running, I'm hoping it will still be very un-busy.

MissConductUS · 19/04/2021 09:40

I've gotten off the stationary bike for a moment to make sure we have a new thread to jump to before this one fills up completely.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 14: Calmly through the day

Let's complete this one so that it's not sitting out there unfinished.

The sun is shining here, there are 4 pheasants outside work, one male and 3 females. He looks very pleased with himself

Silkiecats · 19/04/2021 10:21

@RhubarbFairy It's nearly the end of the thread and I think I remember you love being the 1,000th post.

Frownette · 19/04/2021 10:56

Ok, 1000 place left for @RhubarbFairy!

RhubarbFairy · 19/04/2021 15:31

You're all so kind, and so patient as I've been at work Grin
