What’s the difference between the two types of garden centres, @Prokupatuscrakedatus?
I have done some gardening and then DS and I sat and read in the garden a bit while DH attached the new garden hose to the wall. The hose is very impressive (with an impressive price to go with it!) www.vonhaus.com/vh_en/whats-hot/20m-auto-rewind-hose-reel?gclid=CjwKCAjwjuqDBhAGEiwAdX2cj6Ep6cqj_fe2USE8QsGrTIkg_UbBkX1_gfewWdGlHzxL44OpVVmqMxoCiaQQAvD_BwE

The winter coat-washing has to be put off until Wednesday because the forecast is for snow on Tuesday. Fingers crossed this will be the last snowfall of the season.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/04/2021 18:39

@Nydj - Grin During the whole of the plague season I wondered what it was all about. Then I looked it up.
The English version seems to be like a plant centerd shopping mall suitable for an outing. My garden center is a place where you go to buy plants, seeds, compost and equipment etc. and get expert advise. Nothing else - certainly no coffe or cake und you don't spend time there. After all you've got a job to do.

amigababy · 17/04/2021 18:41

I have found and joined an online recorder group. I've always wanted to play in a group but couldn't find a local one. Very happy now ( positive Covid benefit)

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/04/2021 18:45

amiga That is lovely.

And another word I stumbled over when learning English. I wondered what's so difficult about playing the recorder, just press the button. Until I learned that the other meaning is Blockflöte. After that things made much more sense Grin

amigababy · 17/04/2021 19:14

Yes, I was thinking of telling some German friends about the Zoom recorder group and wondered if I should give the translation to explain better Smile

MissConductUS · 17/04/2021 19:37

Welcome, @amigababy, and thanks for sharing your musical and virtual interest group news.

DH has enquired about DD's vaccination appointment. It went fine, and she got the Pfizer vaccine with a 5-minute wait. He asked her how much the Uber cost, thinking he'd transfer the amount to her account. It turns out the cheeky girl rang one of my cousins, who lives in the area, and asked him to pick her up, take her to the pharmacy and bring her back to uni, which he did. He's a lovely bloke and DD can be a bit tight when spending her own money. Smile

I'll have to call him and thank him. At least it gave them a chance to visit.

Lol at your DD @MissConductUS - I am very impressed by both your kids and glad that your DD has had her first jab.

Thanks for the explanation @Prokupatuscrakedatus. No tea and cake at a garden centre? I am shocked!

Champagneforeveryone · 17/04/2021 20:14

We had a fantastic afternoon with friends at the pub. I'm a little nervous about how the morning will pan out but I am in bed now in a bid to mitigate the damage Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/04/2021 20:54

Champagene I hope you do not have to pay too dearly, but some things are worth it.

It's been more than a year since I did anything remotely nice (apart from going to work) that did not involve a screen or our four walls and there is a limit to the number of online courses you can sanely take.

MissConductUS · 17/04/2021 21:57

Thanks, Nydj, I'm pretty impressed too, but also slightly embarrassed by my daughter's cheeky transportation method. He's probably already agreed to take her for her second jab in three weeks.

Garden centers here are German style. They are also called nurseries if they grow the plants on site. The big DIY chains like Home Depot and Lowes also offer plants and gardening supplies. Do you have those stores in the UK?

I'm still at relatives, she had a funny turn so I'm staying the night (I act as carer if required). The funeral ceremony was beautiful today, the cauliflower cheese was lovely.

I'm not armed with chocolate or a toothbrush so will go to shop in a sec, it shuts at midnight.

RhubarbFairy · 17/04/2021 22:59

Evening all.

We went for a walk along Caen Hill locks today. The longest stretch of locks in Britain. Twas lovely.

A wiki link for you @MissConductUS

That's a lovely place to walk, Rhubarb and a very impressive feat of engineering. New York constructed an extensive system of canals in the 19th century.

I managed to get in a good one hour nap this afternoon and the men grilled burgers, which we had with some leftover mac & cheese. All in all, it was a nice Saturday.

I'm now watching a documentary on UFOs on Amazon Prime called The Phenomenon. Its quite good and just came out last year. The implication is that our governments are preparing to admit the truth that they're real.

Frownette · 18/04/2021 01:36

I've been napping funny recently, I fell asleep soon after the funeral started. Then fell back asleep after tea. Did you watch it, MissConductUS?

Do you have regular shift patterns? I've commented on this before but you really do seem to have the menfolk well trained! I like hearing about happy families Smile

Silkiescats · 18/04/2021 01:50

Glad you had a lovely walk Rhubarb

DH spent 3 hours out this morning shopping and 3 hours out helping a friend whose car had broken down. He said everyone was out and all at the shops and seemed annoyed other people had the same idea as him. But he got some shoes. It's supposed to be 9 mins drive each way so I'm a bit puzzled how this took 3 hours. Though he did also get a McDonalds somewhat randomly which is nowhere near the shoe shop. DS said he had taken DD which I thought that explains it (as she always needs 10,000 items buying) but no DD was skateboarding all day. Silkiecat howled the whole time he was gone Sad for shopping. He needs a cat sling.

Just did the accounts and got them up to date but the house just remains as a to do.

MissConductUS · 18/04/2021 01:55

Frownette I watched highlights of it on the evening news. I don't think the whole thing was broadcast here.

I lucked out in that DH came pre trained. Both of his parents worked and his mum was a university professor. They were a very modern family, with his dad doing lots of the housework and cooking. His dad was a solicitor. So he grew up in a household that respected women and didn't see them as subordinate to men. My son has simply learned by example from his dad. I'm not sure what you mean by regular shift patterns.

Oh, I just wondered if your hours changed each week or if you had set hours. Are all of your parents nearby?

Silkiescats, you'll get there! I'm procrastinating about study at the moment, it's so easy to defer it. Poor little silkiecat

Silkiescats · 18/04/2021 03:36

Thanks Frownette What are you studying? If its year 9 anything I've done lots of DS's lessons. Grin

Oh they took the bunny emojis away Sad

Will get there on the house just thought no-one would be round for weeks due to lockdown (and the fact DS and cat hate visitors) so we thought we had another month or so. But no ed pscyh may come.

Watching the Farmer Wants a Wife. DS would love the sheep farmer, I could see DS being a sheep farmer if he lived in Australia. Just him 1,000 sheep, some Silkies, rabbit, living off Pringles and biscuits ignoring everyone whilst living his dream.

Frownette · 18/04/2021 04:08

MSc. How very mean of them to withdraw the bunny emojis!! Is Halloween the next theme to wait for? Hope ed psych is out of the way soon. She can't say she wasn't warned if it turns out to be 5 minutes...

I'm deeply regretting my catnapping earlier, I'm wide awake now. Do you usually have variable sleep patterns? I'm going to watch something and hope for zzzzz

Silkiescats · 18/04/2021 04:38

I have terrible sleep patterns - am currently on an Australian sleep schedule Easter Grin

I remembered the bunny emoji code - its tbu in front of other ones. Ha. They will never take my bunnies away. Easter Smile

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 18/04/2021 06:45

well, the next thing would be (for those living in the Alps) the Almauftrieb (start of mountain grazing), so we could have festive cows. When I was a child this was still done, celebrated and shown on TV for those living in the north. Grin

Silkiescats · 18/04/2021 06:49

Morning Prok Birds are singing here, DS has fed the silkies breakfast.

DH is asleep. I watched The Farmer Wants a Wife and now I want 6,000 sheep, DS would be in love. I informed DH who said all in our garden but didn't appear totally opposed. DH has a soft toy sheep which he took to dinner in Sweden when we all went out to dinner.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 18/04/2021 07:09

Good morning Silkie
DD went to a school where, apart from all the central curricular stuff preparing for the state set exams, they did a lot of work experience. She spent time on an organic sheep farm. She took the small herd out to graze, learned to scrub a milk chamber and to clean out a pig sty
