Thanks, @Nydj. Being an old woman myself, I don't know what the recruitment process for graduates is like these days. I do know that companies who want to hire grads with particular degrees come to his campus and do interviews there. He may want to talk to other potential employers just to see what's out there even if he gets an offer from the one he's interning with now. He seems to be in good spirits. I got an alert from the new security system that he had armed the alarm and left the house, then I saw him come back 15 minutes later on one of the outside cameras with a MacDonald's takeaway.

In other news, it's pouring rain here today. We've had a lot of rain in the last week. DS cut the lawn yesterday with the new lawnmower and it looks lovely. It's greening up nicely this year. He says the new mower is faster than the old one (it's self propelled).

I had a chat with our new staff member who is a UK ex-pat. We were talking about our kids and I casually mentioned Mumsnet. She's on MN! I didn't mention to her that I am. I did tell her about the new series on Netflix about secrets of great British castles and she said she'd give it a try.

I have picked up my new glasses, dropped DC1 in town to meet a friend, gone into work for a couple of hours to clear emails (and fix the printer which someone jammed at the end of last term) done a big food shop in the nearest Big Town, taken DC4 to their first swimming lesson since December.
It’s been a dull but productive day, I want non-dull tomorrow to mark the end of the holiday but have nothing planned.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 15/04/2021 19:15

Nydj Thank you - I filled a bin bag with all the old and deformed shoes I can now no longer wear (and would not want to).
Miss all the best to DS
Glasses - I need an eye test. I use to types of bifocals at the moment and I think it is time for a check up.

Sunbird24 · 15/04/2021 20:02

I got my first ever shampoo bar in this month’s Birchbox so have given it a try - quite nice! Will have to find something to keep it in though

ladygracie · 15/04/2021 20:15

@Champagneforeveryone Tesco also do lovely sausage patties that are a good substitute for a McMuffin according to my ds. They are sadly out of stock currently though so it is less exciting than it first seems.

When we redid our shower last summer and added wall niches we got a set of these for the bar soaps and they're very nice.

wooden soap holders

This is the US amazon site but I'm sure you can find something similar on the UK site.

Ooh I get those too @Sunbird24 I was fascinated by the bag that can be used for everything from make up to food. But smells quite strongly of perfumed beauty products which put me off using it for food!

Sunbird24 · 15/04/2021 20:38

@ladygracie I think I’ll take mine to my parents and run it through the dishwasher - it smells of the shampoo bar! It’s a nice scent, but not what you want on your sandwich is it?

MissConductUS · 15/04/2021 20:52

DD is very eco conscious so she is a big fan of shampoo bars as a way of reducing plastic usage.

We just had a power outage at the house (Ring notified me) so I called my son's mobile to make sure he was okay and the power came back on as we were talking. I was feeling a bit nosey so I asked if they had offered him the full-time position upon graduation and they did offer him one. I'll get the details tonight, but he was obviously pretty chuffed about it. Grin

Thank you @Nydj and @freckles20, though it is my niece who deserves the congratulations. You've probably worked out that gruncle=great uncle. My brother is well chuffed at the prospect of being a granddad, his wife is happy their daughter is ecstatic and the world seems a tiny bit happier to my little brain.

ladygracie · 15/04/2021 21:47

That’s great news MissConduct! Well done him!
Good plan sunbird - I think I’ll pop mine through the dishwasher too. I haven’t yet because it is a really lovely smell! 🤣

MissConductUS · 15/04/2021 22:55

@DoctorTwo, you and your family should be chuffed. It's wonderful news all around that you have a new family member on the way.

I have not been able to speak with DS because he's been on a Zoom call ever since I got home. We're all just relieved to know that when he finishes uni he'll have a good job with good pay and benefits. If he takes it he'll be in Boston, which is a lovely city and not terribly far from us in New York. We also have lots of family in the Boston area, so that's a comfort as well.

Well wouldn't you know it, the pharmacy where my vaccine appointment for yesterday was canceled texted me to say if could get there tomorrow they would give me the first shot. There is no way I could get there as I am working and the DDs have online classes at our appointment times, so we had to decline. They canceled our registration, which was nice of them as the process on the website was a bit complicated.

This weekend I will wash our winter coats and retire them until next October even though it's very chilly still. I am sick and tired of three coats plus assorted scarves hanging on the kitchen chairs.

mathanxiety · 15/04/2021 23:58

Congratulations to your DS, @MissConductUS Star

Silkiescats · 16/04/2021 03:09

Congratulations to your DS MissC He and your DD are doing so well.

I keep sleeping too much though both children back at school since Monday so its OK.

I love listening to the bird sounds on there too Prok We have loads of birds here which sing - lots of greenfinch but many different types of bird. I got confused at first as I kept hearing cuckoo and DH said it wasn't possible to have cuckoo here so I went to that site and decided maybe it was a collared dove. But just looked again and you can get cuckoos here and the bird I see looks like them. Though my eyesight isn't amazing.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/04/2021 07:07

Silkies I will (at the weekend) look for a site for birds specially in my region. Last year we had a jay (Eichelhäher), which I did not expect.

My foot survived the first day without 'Shoe', but it really does need physio.

This evening I can go down to NDN and feed their cats. One is an old lady of at least 15 years and the other is only 6. She was a litter mate of our Sev.

freckles20 · 16/04/2021 08:53

Great news re DS @MissConductUS. I imagine it's a wonderful feeling to have successful children flying through nest, but also worrying at the same time.

@mathanxiety what a shame the pharmacy couldn't be more flexible with the times the my offered you.

Thank you for the bird song link @Silkiescats. The older o get the more I appreciate the birds in my garden.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus will NDN cats allow you a cuddle? I feed cats as part of my job (although that part has been mostly dormant due to Covid), and I love the end of day visits to both the affectionate and shy ones.

freckles20 · 16/04/2021 08:54

So many typos- apologies.

Nydj · 16/04/2021 08:56

Congratulations to your DS, Miss and do be careful without the protective shoe Prok.

I have zoom yoga today - moved from Sunday classes to Fridays - does that make it too exciting for this thread?
@DoctorTwo, of course that is what a gruncle is - I should have worked it out - such wonderful news - congratulations again!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/04/2021 09:01

@freckles20 - The young one greets me at the door and I may stroke and fuss her, the old one is very distant but allows me to come near her and make sure she gets her share of the treats. Smile

I am back to work om Monday and I would really like a bit of warmer weather.

Silkiescats · 16/04/2021 09:21

Good job you aren't feeding Silkiecat, she lets people in takes the food and then attacks them. The food is allowed in her house but no people. People who have cats themselves are even further up the hated list as people must worship Silkiecat and only Silkiecat.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/04/2021 09:46

Silkiecats I won't feed your cat then Grin! I actually was quite excited when the old cat allowed me to touch her head last time.

freckles20 · 16/04/2021 09:50

I think given how relaxing yoga is that it's perfect for this thread? It's something I've considered trying for a long time, not got past that considering stage though.

@Silkiescats your cat sounds brilliant.

I hope you get those cat cuddles this eve @Prokupatuscrakedatus.

My cat is sitting in the garden mesmerised by the birds. Luckily he's never been a successful hunter.

HairyFeline · 16/04/2021 11:58

I have just fitted a pannier rack on my bike and checked the fluid levels in the car. I feel very industrious though it is so nice to just putter along and do ‘normal’ things!

Sunbird24 · 16/04/2021 13:16

I’m sitting in a nook in the corridor at work listening to two ladies further down (who don’t know I’m here I think) having a competitive ailment comparison. Neither of them claiming covid though.

Ooh, they’ve just finished, think it ended in a draw...
