Do your children look like you or their dad?

We are expecting our first baby in August and I'm daydreaming about what he/she will look like.

DH and I are complete opposites lookswise, it's almost comical. Hes very tall with olive skin, brown eyes and jet black hair. I'm a short arse with green eyes and that pale blonde washed out look thing going on Grin. I wonder if our baby will go to one of the two extremes or somewhere in the middle!

Just curious really!

Neither! DD1 looks nothing like either of us. DD2 has a slight resemblance to me but not an instant recognition.

Pumpkinstace · 17/03/2021 14:41

My eldest has genes from her dad, build, height, colour etc.

My youngest gets her genes from me, but none of them look like us

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 17/03/2021 14:42

Definitely like DH, I See absolutely nothing of myself in DS, but he's only 2.5,so there's time yet!

SummerHouse · 17/03/2021 14:43

I have two. One looks like me, the other like his dad. Think it's pot luck really. Although apparently newborns look like their dad at first which is an evolutionary thing to stop the dad rejecting them as someone else's.

Bluntness100 · 17/03/2021 14:43

Overall she looks like me, same colouring, height, build, hair etc, but her nose, mouth and face shape is his, so she’s a mix of both of us. But because she’s tall with the same hair and both brown eyes everyone says she’s the spit of me, where as in reality her face shape, nose and mouth are from her father.

ShirleyPhallus · 17/03/2021 14:44

I think pretty much all babies look like their dads when born (an evolutionary thing so they don’t reject them) and then start to look like their mum more at a few months old

Calmyertits · 17/03/2021 14:44

Ds is a split, since he was tiny people who know dp better say him and vice versa for people that know me better. He has alot of my features but his dads expressions. DD is an absolute mini me, poor girl😅

brokengate · 17/03/2021 14:44

Dd1 a mix

Dd2 12 weeks a small angry version of her dad. Same receding hairline and huge frown....

bootlebum · 17/03/2021 14:45

DD is tall and thin like DH but has my face. But she's so her own person I don't think about it anymore.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 17/03/2021 14:45

DS has more of his dad's physical features but his facial expressions are more like mine if that makes sense!

I am small, very pale skin, curly dark brown hair and greenish blue eyes. ExH is very tall - 6'4 with straight mousy brown hair, hazel eyes and olive skin.

DS has his dad's mousy brown hair and olive skin. His hair is wavy so a mix between my curly and exh's straight. He has dark brown eyes though, nothing at all like me or his dad as we both have light coloured eyes! He has my smile and a dimple in his cheek the exact same place as mine.

EvilOnion · 17/03/2021 14:45

Somehow they look like both of us, it seems to depend a lot on their facial expressions.

Both of us have dark brown/black hair but DC1 is light brown and DC2 is very blonde

LagneyandCasey · 17/03/2021 14:45

We are a blue eyes/blonde hair and brown eyes/black hair couple.

Our dc all have brown eyes and had blonde hair until their teens when it darkened to a light brown. They very much looked like their dad when they were small children but a lot of people say the girls are looking more like me as they get older.

I'm quite short and dh is tall. All dc overtook me around the age of 12 so they have his tall genes.

Babies change so much in the first few weeks when their features start to emerge. It's lovely to watch!

IWantMyHoney · 17/03/2021 14:47

Ds1 looks like mil and her brothers
Ds2 looks like dh's sister and cousin
Neither look like either of us and they don't even look like brothers. One has blue eyes and the other has brown.

Blueappletree · 17/03/2021 14:47

I'm Asian, dh is White British. So they look nothing similar. But we realised they look exactly like each other when they smile. We have photos of my dh and ds both at 5 years old next to each other, and it's pretty clear they are related. He inherited my Asian hair and eye colour, but got my dh's long legs.

whatswithtodaytoday · 17/03/2021 14:48

Mine looks exactly like me, even when he was born. It's quite uncanny, the baby photos I've always looked at of myself are now like looking at my son!

Woodlandbelle · 17/03/2021 14:48

We have 2dc and one looks like dh and one like me. But more like other family members (uncle and grandparent)
They have mixed hair colour. Medium brown as dh is fair and I am dark

maxineputyourredshoeson · 17/03/2021 14:49

DD1 is my double from when I was little. DD2 is the double of my (dead) brother. Both of them have our exact mannerisms. It’s bloody scary how alike they are to us tbh.

I genuinely thought they would take after DH he is dark hair, dark eyes and olive skin. I’m mousy hair, blue eyes and fair skin. My brother was blond hair, blue eyes and olive skin.

They do weirdly have bits of DH - his huge hands, long eyelashes and wonky nostrils Grin.

barbrahunter · 17/03/2021 14:50

one looks like me, one looks like my brother and one looks like his father.

CarlottaValdez · 17/03/2021 14:52

My DS is basically a clone of his father - it’s uncanny. Except he has my eye colour.

LizzieMacQueen · 17/03/2021 14:52

My daughter resembles me in eye colour, skin tone, hair colour though her facial features are more like her dad's side.

My sons resemble their dad in terms of eye colour, skin tone & hair. The youngest is like a younger brother of mine.

So it looks like in our family the eyes, skin and hair follow the correct sex line but facial structure I guess crosses over.

We definitely discussed who they'd look like before they were born. That's all part of the fun.

2021isalsorubbish · 17/03/2021 14:54

We are the same as you and had one of each! One olive Italian child one very white English child!

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/03/2021 14:54

Eldest a mix. Younger looks like DHs brother's son but about a foot taller. It's uncanny.

MixedUpFiles · 17/03/2021 14:58

We both sort of expected our baby would look like me. I have no idea why. She came out and looked exactly like her father.

From me she got my eye color and her skin tone is closer to mine, though she does not sunburn as easily.

MixedUpFiles · 17/03/2021 15:00

I have a niece who looks just like me and is the same age as my dd. When we are out just the 3 of us, people assume the niece is mine and dd is a friend. It’s strange.

1990shopefulftm · 17/03/2021 15:02

He's has most of my looks, apart from DHs lovely long eyelashes and the fact a bit of his hair keeps sticking up.
